They're selling consumable items that can easily be obtained in-game. Basically a "pay a buck to not have to grind or get good" button. If anything, this helps them make more money on good games like DMC5, which encourages the bean counters to let them make more good games instead of crappy live service stuff which does have game ruining microtransactions. If you can't see the difference, maybe you're the retard?
When a company gets away with small MTX that leads to worse ones later.

this implies the MTX has any bearing on how the game turned on/was designed, and so far, I haven't seen that to be the case.

don't get me wrong MTX bad, but has there been anything to imply Dragon's Dogma's design was changed to push people towards MTX? since I've only seen the opposite.

At best, gameplay isn’t affected yet success of the game would incline other developers to add the same mtx.

It just makes me cringe that people accept this shit in a world where developers like Larian or Grinding Gear Games exist.

And listen, I was ready to buy the fuckin game today so I’m not thrilled to be taking this position.

Why doesn't he have another vote or something on Twitter for a game for him to play?

I feel like he hasn't done a poll recently and those tended to go rather well in the past?

He can play LITERALLY any game he wants, why does he insist on clinging to brand new releases while his ship sinks.
Because Tekken, Yakuza, FF7 Rebirth, Dragons Dogma 2 <next new release> (That Ronin game?) is totally going to save the stream. Because Phil is a totally real gamer and not like those fake streamers who only care about money and chasing day one views. That's why his schedule is exclusively new games (or games that he started when they were new and is just slowly waddling through)

Because at $6116, there's still a few more dents to be milked.
im surprised gametrekker hasn't run out of money yet, guess there are a few random dents that throw $5-$10 at him everyday so gametrekker only has to do the 3 $10 tips to make dsp read all the shit he has to say. then stop by to tip the remaining amount to get him up to $100 using a random name.

So $74 dollars in tips on the day 1 DD2 hype stream. $50 of that was given in the pre-stream. He couldn't even make it to the hat goal. It wasn't for a lack of trying, the tahxicity was low and he was desperately clowning and riffing on the cutscenes. I know this has been said a lot over the years, but is it finally winding down for Phil? It feels like every new game gets less and less, BG3 is somewhat of a rarity these days. There will be the Elden Ring DLC later this year that will likely net him hundreds per stream, but it feels like Phil's whales are starting to dry out.
Yes, but it's felt like that countless times before. It's one of the reasons Phil does the same shit over and over. Every other dry streak has eventually ended. Could be the end, but I very, VERY much doubt that the won't bounce back.

good? i'd rather other developers add the same useless MTX as opposed to actual predatory MTX/MTX that affects game design?

I mean I would hope I wouldn’t have to explain to you that IF (and that’s a big fucking if) DD2 actually hasn’t compromised gameplay in order to promote transactions, other developers certainly would.

I’ve read enough of your BG3 posts to presume you’ve played video games for at least a few years. You should know this.

Edit: To avoid staying off topic I’ll say good for you if you enjoy that shit in your games, I don’t and I’ll forever champion removing it. Especially from $70 single player games.

That threat exists whether DD2 exists or not. Ever since DLC became a thing this has always been a possibility. Might as well never play video games ever again if you are so concerned that a developer might make a game with abusive gameplay compromising MTX.

Didn't see it pointed out... he made his character in DD2 look like himself (with muscles and a better hairline of course).
Yeah but he's older!

I mean, not like OLD old like he's a frail old man and he's playin a feeble magician class like he's Gandalf or a seasoned veteran.

Nah he's Older Phil by like 1 year, but he's like super masculine and buff and stuff and actually looks younger than him currently. He's playing the generic fighter who has a goatee with GREY HAIR AND NOT PATCHY ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE GETS FUCKIN BANNED.

Also Kat made him a MALE Beasteren named Elric for a Pawn partner because I guess she's like a furry or something. Didn't want to make it female so Phil doesn't OOGLE HER the whole time(Those japanese are kooky perverts haha!)
Little did she know that Phil loves muscular men.

*points at calendar* End of the month, SSI has been dried up by now.. And those few that have a normal job probably have to penny pinch considering how expensive life is becoming

I can't tell if it's narcissism to the extreme, or just plain pathetic that you have to larp in almost every game with a character creator.

I can assure you that the games I mentioned in my original post that started this slapfight, Mega Man 11, Devil May Cry 5, and now Dragon's Dogma 2, do not have their gameplay compromised by their inclusion of this specific kind of single player cheat code microtransactions. All of these games had the same backlash wave by people who didn't play them but are blackpilled about the state of video games. Hey, I get it, I'm pretty blackpilled on the state of games too, which is why it irks me when an actually good one comes out and people still crap over it for a stupid reason.

All I can tell you is that I have actually played these games, they are actually really good, they don't have giant in-game "BUY STUFF WITH REAL MONEY NOW" menu options like the shitty games you're conflating them with do, and the design is not compromised to fleece people for microtransactions. I'm not defending microtransactions in general and I'm not defending Capcom in particular because Lord knows they've had and continue to have some shitty DLC (Like did you see those TMNT costumes they were selling in Street Fighter 6, total overpriced garbage). I simply refuse to accept the argument that these specific ones represent a slippery slope when there are already games 1000 times further down on that slope.

The original debate over DLCs was that the game should have been postponed and released with all the DLCs included? I know my first "DLC" purchase was The Burning Crusade for World of Warcraft, my most enjoyed DLC was Mothership Zeta for Fallout 3. More content for a game you enjoy is generally a good thing, IMO, whether you want to pay for it or not is entirely up to yourself.

That was back during the days of expansion packs when already completed games got more khantent, rather than today where they release unfinished games and release on-disc DLCs so you could get nickel n' dimed and get the complete game, things like the Greek States DLC for Rome 2 TW or the on-disc DLC characters for SFxT sparked an outrage back in the day but the goyim enjoy being fleeced nowadays. In fighting games especially.
