Some more breakdowns which I will also cover in my video:
"I believe there are more people that think gaming is an incredible medium that can really connect people. We saw during the pandemic that people craved a human connection, and gaming was a way to achieve that."
Does Katy not realize that not everyone in the world was sequestered during the pandemic? People still had connections, they still went out in public, albeit they were made to wear masks and distance themselves. Any connections gaming made would be online and therefore far more distant than that.
Also, the pandemic is basically over at this point. People who were sequestered no longer have an excuse.
"The more that we can talk about the good that gaming can bring, and the impact… and give that the energy and the spotlight. Yes, there's a threshold when there's harassment. We need to be very aware of that in terms of safety and making our beliefs clear."
The "good" that gaming can bring? According to whom? Who is the arbiter of what "good" is being brought by gaming and who elected them? What gives Katy or anyone from Microsoft the right to talk about what is ultimately a good or negative influence upon their consumers?
Then there's the thing about "harassment and safety" and "making their
beliefs clear."
Beliefs?! I mean, there you have it. None of this is backed by anything substantial. This is all a set of beliefs. This is religious dogma influencing the video games industry.
Katy then shares a statistic from a survey where 71% of players say that diversity in stories and characters is either 'very' or 'extremely important' to them. This is what is known as putting the cart before the horse. Asking players if diversity in stories and characters is important is both pointed and loaded. Moreover, even if players insisted in particular values as being important, that doesn't necessarily mean those players want those values forcefully implemented in their video games. Also, I highly doubt 100% of players took part in this survey, so even using it as a basis for players in general is idiotic.
"The clear majority of players value that. And we just know that to be true as humans."
What the hell? Wording? Players are humans. Or maybe Katy is an alien? Regardless, even saying "we know that to be true" is more dogmatic nonsense. It's poisoning the well. Katy hasn't even gone into the finer details about what this diversity stuff even entails and yet the language she employs is already well into assuming it's just good and wholesome and widely accepted anyway.
So, why even implement a survey if this is just something "humans" know to be true by default?
Oh, wait a second. Yong hasn't even touched the Nexon controversy because he probably did some work with Nexon or he wants to be in their games.
Collaborating with SBI makes these companies think they can keep getting away with this shit, even hoping their "new allies" will buy the BLM/Pride-themed lootboxes and shit.
Yup, just like Critical Drinker and all the boys and girls from the Fandom Menace. None of these influencers and commentary channels are really objective at all. It's all about the grift. This is exactly what I said
here. All online commentary is tard-wrangled and put into a corner where they can do the least amount of damage to these companies. Meanwhile your social media influencers are going to be busy being lolcows and flinging shit at each other and not at Disney, Sony or any of the other big corpos. In the end, the goal is to create a consumer base that regularly feeds on low-quality slop and convince themselves it is good and wholesome. Else, they stand to be called racist or bigots if they say or do otherwise.
