Disaster "Mass casualty incident" declared after Key Bridge in Baltimore collapses

No article yet as this just happened, but could be big. One of the largest bridges in the world according to Wikipedia.

If you have to cross bridges regularly, keep a center-punch in easy grabbing distance so you can shatter your windows to escape in a situation like this.
Additionally, make sure your tool is rated to take out YOUR window. The odds of getting soft chinesium shit is pretty high if you get your striker at pep boys or walmart.

I think this one has the ship's comms overlayed onto the video
No! Do not Redeem!

If the ship was carrying a bunch of toxic chemicals, and some weird multi-platform structure get erected. I'm just gonna say Kojima really can see the future.
those are normally pretty well secured. but even basic consumer shit or chemicals can fuck up water very badly.
A container full of Phone batteries also can keep the salvation work on hold for weeks.

$40 on a woman because this was caused by bad driving (navigating?)
Piloting.
Boat collisions near settlements can have a huge number of casualties, regardless of whether, or not they actually hit shit that's actually in those settlements. The most infamous case of this is also the worst one which happened in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1917 when a boat carrying a fuckton of explosives crashed into another one. The resulting blast literally destroyed the entire town, killed over 1700 people, and was the largest manmade explosion at the time.

I'm just hoping that in addition to the people on the bridge being okay, the boat itself wasn't actually carrying dangerous shit like it was back then because holy shit if it was, things could easily get a helluva lot worse.
Fun fact, there's a stone church in Halifax well over a mile away from the epicentre of the explosion that still has a big steel bar stuck into it, it went flying so far.
So uhhh... is there a betting pool for the Captain's prison sentence?
Life in prison guaranteed if the captain is responsible. It should be a local harbour pilot at the helm in that spot, though.
Ship was on fire from the look of that smoke, so it might have just drifted into it with no one at the helm, or with the controls messed up
I'm not sure about that. Electrical problems, maybe from a fire, do seem likely, but that smoke looks like the ship was just going into full speed mode. That looked like diesel exhaust to me.
Supposedly one of those ship tracking sites has its route active even after the ship hit. The site for that I tried required payment, and I didn't look further.
Someone else posted the route. Here's some details of what other water traffic is around at the moment. The anchorage outside the harbour is going to be an absolute gong show for weeks.

This weird fucking kneejerk response that the "Retard Right" have toward any incident happening at any time is so fucking retarded. I know people want something to blame and want points on the board for their side, but this shit is wild. It's the same as any fucking mass shooter happening thread, speculating wildly about how Biden is at fault or this was MOSSAD or the glowniggers or regular niggers before the bodies even reach ambient temperature. This has dick to do with infrastructure, there isn't a single bridge ever built by man on the face of the Earth that you could ask to remain standing after taking a hit from a ship that heavy at that fucking speed, I don't give a shit who built it or how well-maintained it might be. I'm sure somebody will blame the Jews or Ukraine for it somehow though, I've already seen people on Twitter going on about how suspicious it is that this happens following the slom attack in Moscow. Seriously it's making everyone on the right look like retarded, braindead reactionaries and I can't take most of them seriously anymore. Chink spies? Give me a fuckin' break.

What I'm interested in here is:
A) How in the absolute fuck did that container ship manage to hit that fucking column straight down the middle? Visibility looked fine, seems like a pretty clear night in Baltimore, there are bright beacon lights around the bridge and lit buoys as well.
B) What will the implications be of this for the local ports and trade? Because there's a good chance that the collapsed bridge is going to make that area impassable for a while considering nobody wants to ruin their ship over the debris of a bridge.
C) How many people are dead? Luckily the bridge didn't get hit during rush hour or some shit but it looked like a good number of road work vehicles/crew were on it at the time.
D) Is the ship going to sink too? I heard earlier that it was listing and leaking a shit-ton of diesel fuel into the bay, so that might be likely. Additionally, what the fuck was on the ship and will it also fuck shit up if it spills?

Side note perhaps but traffic is going to be a fucking nightmare in Baltimore for a good, long time. Baltimore is already broke as fuck and totally fucked when it comes to funding and infrastructure, hell the other night they had three police officers for a city district of 63,000 fucking people. That bridge is not going to be replaced, repaired or rebuilt cheaply, easily or quickly and it's a major fucking corridor and is supposedly the only acceptable route for HAZMAT-bearing trucks through the city so that might fuck some shit up, even worse if a HAZMAT truck happened to be on the bridge at that exact moment. I guess if there's any "good news" here it's that it didn't happen during rush hour and SAR assets were on site pretty fucking quickly, but fuck, what a horrible way to go. That shit really is the stuff of nightmares.

Jesus fucking Christ, man. Jokes aside, nobody fucking deserves to die like this. Fucking horrendous.
Watching that video evokes 9/11 vibes. That's scary stuff. This is Baltimore's 9/11. This is worse than the Holocaust (because it actually happened).

Possible crew picture. Grabbed off /pol/ so take with grain of salt.

The Fairchem Valor is supposedly owned by Grace Ocean Pte Ltd. That's not the same ownership as boat named 'Dali' in OP. Though both are Singaporeal and the crew could be just as brown, race is probably not relevant in this happening.

The bridge carried an estimated 11.5 million vehicles annually, with an average daily traffic of 31,500 vehicles.
I wonder how busy that bridge would have been during morning commute rush time? That has to be one of the busiest time for any bridge.

This is what I’m most curious about as well. Loss of life, while tragic, won’t be high considering time of day.

Car prices may go up a bit, especially Mercedes since apparently that’s the manufacturer that uses the port.

Also sugar, so expect this to hit food prices soon.

I just watched The Wire last year. :(
Then you'll appreciate this: Until they can confirm this part of the Patapsco is still navigable, no ships are getting into or out of the Port of Baltimore. And the bridge was authorized for transporting hazmat, which you can't take through the tunnels, so industries that depend on hazmat inputs will suffer delays. The economic damage will be much greater than the replacement cost of the bridge and some inconvenienced commuters.

This doesn't make sense as a terror attack. The target is too weird, and even if you decided to target a bridge for some reason, why bother setting your ship on fire first?
If it was terrorism, why would they do it at night when nobody is on the bridge?
Ports are and bridges are key infrastructure, highly visible, and affect civilians' everyday lives; Islamists planned several attempts to bomb bridges or tunnels in New York because it's a great way to cause disruption and make people feel unsafe. If you can take out a bridge and screw up a port for a while, that's a nice twofer. And if this was an attack, it took place at night because that's when the ship was in position to do it and the operational cell could take control. (Maybe by setting a fire to divert the crew's attention?) Terrorism still seems unlikely, but not because of the target or the timing.

nigger it is pitch black right now, background looks wrong too.
Yeah agreed it's definitely not anywhere near dawn in Baltimore

Baltimore just entered astronomical twilight as of about 20 minutes ago. ( 5:28 am EDT )

Meaning the sun is still about 12 to 18 degrees below the horizon.

the people in the cars managed to get out, they had better be good cold water swimmers. According to Google, the water temp is 9C

Yeah 48F. That's survivable for a couple of hours under the best conditions. It will be a miracle if anyone makes it.

Typically in port a large ship like this would be dragged via tugboats until it was clear of infrastructure and other ships and clear into a channel or the ocean. Not allowed to haphazardly navigate around a vital bridge at night. In some of the footage the ship looks as if it is on fire in a forward area. I cannot believe that they were legally operating at the time of the collision. Unless the harbormaster is inept.

You can see the ship look like its power is flashing on and off. And there is a fire somewhere on the ship. It also reportedly is at the bottom of the harbor as well after taking on water following the collision. Timeline seems to be that the ship was either suffering power failures at full speed and rammed into the bridge. Or this was an attempt to disguise deliberate sabotage by making it seem as if the ship was out of control. It looks like the ship is going full speed towards the bridge, cuts power, then slams into the bridge. Though maybe it loses power after.

Either way the lack of tugboats is not a standard way of running a port.
Yeah, I was wondering why there were no obvious tugs or harbour authority pilot boats in evidence when it hit, its pretty standard procedure, especially if a port has a narrow entrance or, like this one, a bridge in the way. The shipping lane under the bridge would be pretty tight, too, and probably dredged all the time. Just where were the tugs/pilot boats?
Also, ships this size are like steering a glacier, they do not turn quick, so whoever was piloting knew this was going to happen maybe up to five minutes before it did, literally like watching a car crash in slow motion. My best guess is that the ship had a sudden loss of power on its approach and there was nothing anyone could really do other than watch it all unfold in horror.
The insurance costs for this, especially if the ship itself is now submerged, will be fucking wild. Sucks to be Lloyds of London today.

You’d be surprised what kind of pictures you can get at “night” at an active port with cloud cover. Camera with lens open long enough can suck in quite a bit of light.

Still could be AI faked shit but let’s compare the wreckage come dawn.

That's, like, the only thing it could be is some weird camera lens I'm not aware of but still if you can see that water tower next to the power line from that angle the rest of the coastline should be visible too. Iono. I just looked at the picture then looked outside and thought "lol no".
