Disaster "Mass casualty incident" declared after Key Bridge in Baltimore collapses

No article yet as this just happened, but could be big. One of the largest bridges in the world according to Wikipedia.

>Retard who can't pilot a ship hits a fucking bridge
>A&N: It must have been Chinese terrorists looking to destabilize America

It's not as if this exact retarded scenario has happened once before.
Tell me you didn't read the thread without telling me you didn't read the thread.
A few pages ago there's video evidence the ship lost power twice.
Try steering your car with it shut down.

What I'm interested in here is:
A) How in the absolute fuck did that container ship manage to hit that fucking column straight down the middle? Visibility looked fine, seems like a pretty clear night in Baltimore, there are bright beacon lights around the bridge and lit buoys as well.
A) The visibility is excellent and the beacon markers are obvious. I have some training in this and anyone past a complete newbie wouldn't make a mistake in this situation.

Wind direction and speed may have been a factor here. In the video, Dali appears to be transporting a full or close to full cargo. What's the possibility of navigational error caused by heavy wind?
There is currently a NE 7 knot wind there. This is not going to affect a ship, or even a small boat. Either this was extremely bad luck due to some ship mechanical/electrical problem, or it was deliberate. I suppose it's possible that someone got confused, but I don't think that looks likely.

EDIT: At the time of the collision, the wind was 4 knots.

"Poorly made chigger ship breaks down and has no fucking back up while sailing in calm waters of a harbor"
Also I can steer my car without the engine running because I don't drive a faggot mobile with drive by wire.

B) What will the implications be of this for the local ports and trade? Because there's a good chance that the collapsed bridge is going to make that area impassable for a while considering nobody wants to ruin their ship over the debris of a bridge.
C) How many people are dead? Luckily the bridge didn't get hit during rush hour or some shit but it looked like a good number of road work vehicles/crew were on it at the time.
D) Is the ship going to sink too? I heard earlier that it was listing and leaking a shit-ton of diesel fuel into the bay, so that might be likely. Additionally, what the fuck was on the ship and will it also fuck shit up if it spills?

On your earlier remark. Some people have shit for brains and just want confirmation of their biases. Hate makes you stupid.

On your points:
A looks like they lost engine power and started drifting towards the pylon.
B they are fucked for months.
C early reports say the crew is OK, no word at the time of writing on others. It does look like there is a road crew with vehicles flashing yellow hazards. Did they run clear of the collapsed sections?
D The ship seems buoyant and the harbor doesn't seem very deep. This could be much worse. Have a look at the Tazman Bridge collapse 1975.

Business’s were already fleeing Baltimore the past few years, nobodies going to want to deal with the traffic nightmare this will create and just accelerate flight even more. Baltimore is even more doomed.
Yeah, i was looking for baltimore because they have no more police force and its slowly hitting the media...

White Nationalists and right-wingers should be flooding in.
No cops means nobody to protect feral niggers from being yeeted when they attack innocent people.
Get those $1 row houses as a group, shoot niggers who try to violence your ship, and "don't see nothin" when the town cop (singular) shows up trying to punish whitey.

I bet Biden is going to ignore this like he ignored the train derailment in East Palestine.

How tragic and utterly depressing and worst, I have to watch the BBC because American morning news is full of the usual bullshit feel good entertainment. Unreal, and totally dystopian.

Imagine assuming those "white nationalists" can actually follow a plan without devolving into a purity spiral. Good plan, tho. A religious org can do what you suggested.

You’d be surprised what kind of pictures you can get at “night” at an active port with cloud cover. Camera with lens open long enough can suck in quite a bit of light.

Still could be AI faked shit but let’s compare the wreckage come dawn.
Yeah I was surprised to see what pictures are coming out already. Amazing what low light sensors and big lenses can do.

Really tragic and terrible. If there was criminal negligence I hope those responsible are given the maximum sentence.

What happened?

Was there a fire or control failure on the boat?

Someone driving the boat under the influence, like the Exxon Valdez oil spill?

Something else?

How the hell does this happen?

This is going to cost billions in lost economic loss not just for the bridge but the traffic stress this will cause in the entire region. Were they watching cricket?

The insurance bill on this could bankrupt the insurer - it is going to be utterly STAGGERING. And the effected states are going to sue them for every penny they can. Port is effected, traffic is effected for years.

31,000 cars daily. And the port (if it is shuttered) backlogs 1 million tons or cargo per day.

I'd put the Bill at $200 Billion at least. In the video you can see several vehicles that look like possibly alert or road worker vehicles static on the bridge at the time of impact. See the video, and observe to the left of the Right main support column. Looks like there would have been a lot more vehicles on it otherwise. I'd bet we will find out it was partially shuttered due to night crews patching holes is my best guess.

Life in prison guaranteed if the captain is responsible. It should be a local harbour pilot at the helm in that spot, though.
Does it legally matter if there's a pilot on board. When that ship blocked the Suez canal a couple of years ago, the captain copped all the blame even though he had a very expensive pilot on board. Egyptian law said that the captain was responsible and that the pilot is there merely to advise.
especially if the ship itself is now submerged
Why is everyone saying it sank. It's clearly still there in the middle of picture on the live stream.
