No article yet as this just happened, but could be big. One of the largest bridges in the world according to Wikipedia.

This is a fantastic opportunity to build back better and name the next bridge after someone who can be a hero to all americans today, george floyd :feels:
I was thinking the same thing. I would bet a months pay they won't name a new bridge after the guy who wrote The Star Spangled Banner. It's Baltimore though so they will probably go with a character from The Wire, not George Floyd.

D.M.X is from Baltimore so...maybe him but tbh he is a good person unlike Floyd.

I am so fucking mad on the internet that the absolute mongoloids in Washington DC don't even trust Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttstuff, to go to the single greatest disaster to afflict US Transportation since the Union Navy decided to blockade North America and level every river Port from New Orleans to Vicksburg to the fucking ground.

While the "President" gives a canned speech about the Maga Republicans threatening health care and shit in the Carolinas. A thousand miles away from a literal disaster.

We KNOW Biden is a corpse. Where is the Pete Buttigiege? Where is the Commander of the Coast Guard? Where is ANYONE? The retards in DC have left Maryland and Baltimore three sheets to the wind as the entire international eye of sauron descends on them.

If name it after the black guy (probably a black guy) that slammed the red button to stop all traffic when he heard the mayday over radio (instead of waiting for orders from a supervisor) that would be a decent, no offense naming. Actually celebrate a dude who quick thinking saved lives.

It has to be asked at this point. Pete butt stuff oversaw the largest train derailment disaster in US history with the incident in East Palestine Ohio.

Now he oversees the largest nautical disaster in US history in Baltimore Maryland.

He's the Secretary of TRANSPORTATION. Yet for some reason Transportation seems to be causing a lot of trouble lately. East Palestine, Baltimore, and let's not forget doors literally falling off American Made Boeing aircraft while in flight.

The buck stops with the man in charge.

Impeach, Mayor Pete.

While I don't think ULSD was the cause of the power failure, it's certainly something to consider.

Ultra low sulfur diesel fuel has much lower engine lubricity and is hygroscopic, so it could have soaked up water.

There are a number of famous passenger airplane crashes which were caused by fuel contamination. ( Air Ontario, West Caribbean, etc).

But I think the most likely explanation for the power failure is poor maintenance.
All I am saying is thew international regulations about low-Sulphur emissions has been there for many many years with deadlines for ships to meet the staged and staggered requirements. There is nothing this administration implemented that wasn't already there ages ago.

Now whether or not the company operators having been keeping up to code is another matter, but there isn't a valid excuse blaming a fuel when the regulations of fit were established (IIRC) like 12 years ago or longer with the last requirement put in place like in 2020 or something like that.

It is crazy that they replacing Filipinos with Indians due to the former becoming "too expensive". The maritime industry is one of the most ridiculous cost-cutters ever.
They pinched a penny to lose a billion dollars this time.

There is no WAY the retards in Washington DC are going to let themselves be scape goats for this. Especially in Maryland, which is a Federal Vassal State. Maersk is either going to pay in exorbitant amounts of money, or it will pay in blood.

Either way it will pay. And it's payment will be paraded on state media to absolve the government of any and all involvement with what happened.

Couldn't have happened to a bigger shithole of a city. Feel sorry for all the inconvenienced commuters. This being Maryland, the replacement will likely take forever and be riddled with cost overruns and graft.
tbh I'll be very shocked if the replacement is completed in my lifetime or that of anybody else posting here

unrelated to anything, local conservatives went full tard by crying about MUH ANTHEM BRIDGE and honored it by... playing the instrumental, the thing Francis Scott Key had exactly nothing to do with
there was something else they did that was zoomer af like, I forget what it was but it was about on par with pronouncing Nixon's vp name as "egg-knew" where a normal faggot wouldn't care but if you're setting yourself up to be super clever conservative man it was a very big "seriously you don't know how to say THAT name" and it was too obscure to be "oh lol who EVEN is that" like Gorka tries to flex and looks like he's got alzheimers

I'm not sure how I would feel about having a replacement bridge named after me after watching the original one fall before my eyes, seems like a dubious honor. But I hope the guy gets something put up in his honor. America can use more everyday heros.

I'm actually surprised they are doing nothing, it is election year and Biden is struggling with black voters. Baltimore has a large black population and is a dem stronghold, now would be a good time to earn easy brownie points with his constituents and look good for the media. Shit must be beyond dire in the Whitehouse if they are letting a good crisis go to waste.

The Port of Baltimore as an enterprise had little to do with the city itself. It exists because it's the furthest inland to the USA a modern Ocean going cargo container like the Dali can go.

I cannot stress enough what a catastrophe this is. Baltimore was not just a large port. It was an efficient port. The most efficient port on the US Coast in fact. Turn around was quick, which mean facilities could be small. It had the benefit of the Chesapeak Bay, which serves not just as a good Natural Harbor, the Chesapeak Bay is the LARGEST natural harbor on the entire PLANET. And Baltimore was its terminus loading and unloading point. Baltimore was not just a good port. It was the best port. On Earth. The planet. The entire planet. This entire rock. The third planet. From the sun. The best port.

People in this thread say it's "only the 15th" largest port in the world. But that metric is based solely on pier metrics. Ignoring the the literally thousands of square miles of Anchorage in the Chesapeake Bay for commercial shipping to use FOR FREE.

Baltimore is literally THE port on the US coast. Not just "A" port.

Got some ideas:
1.) Name it after Lance Reddick and every time you pass over everyone in the vehicle must quote this video "warp speed don't rainbow read me nigger" or get fined:
2.) Name it after the character Clay Davis and every time you pass over everyone in the vehicle must quote his famous line SHIEEEET or get fined.

I was very irritated by the retard politicians at the news conference this morning. They kept saying it was an “unspeakable tragedy” while speaking about it at a fucking new conference. It’s a giant news event.

An unspeakable tragedy is when their are details so horrifying and terrible they are best left unspoken - like details of people being tortured to death, how a child died in an accident, etc…

A giant bridge collapsing is the opposite of an unspeakable tragedy - it’s a tragedy that’s going to be spoken about endlessly and in great detail. Not just spoken about people are going to watch video of that bridge collapsing millions of times.

Look at this unspeakable tragedy we can’t stop speaking about!
It’s a tragedy in the sense that it’s a heavily black and dem region so any attempts to rebuild will be caught up in red tape and requirements for payoffs that it’ll be a couple decades to see it replaced.
