George RR Martin, his fanboys, and former fanbase

Martin looks better as an old man. One of you guys posted a picture of him when he was young and he looked like a creep you'd see on the SO registry.
He's not that bad, we're just used to see him as an old dude.

I mean he likes the core concept but not the anime package, judging him he probably thinks that animes are for stupid man children and he as a intellectual is above that or some stupid bullshit like this.
>lots of fanservice and sex
>incest with onii-chan is glorified
>perverted scenes involving 12 year old girls
>all the important and strong characters are teenagers or children

Sounds like an anime to me lol

He’ll never finish the series because he never finished any of his others. I don’t think cynical fantasy really works unless it’s straight sword and sorcery. None of Martin’s political or philosophical musings are all that original or inspired.

He’s stuck trying to decide if he makes Jon a failed Messiah, makes Stannis die against the Others as either a pathetic wannabe or failed hero, and other shit. My guess is that Stannis will ultimately be a subversion of Theodan and Martin is trying to grapple with the fact that people like Stannis’ redemption more than Jaime’s.

The fundamental issue on why ASoIaF will be forgotten is that there’s no myth to the fantasy.

Stannis and Shireen are probably based more on Faramir and Denethor. With the whole burning alive subplot. Martin likes to steal stuff from Tolkien then shit on Tolkien for being a hack at the same time. Aragorn's tax policy and all. Like Martin ripped on Tolkien for bringing back Gandalf from the dead. But is going to bring back Jon from the dead in one of the most cliche and tiresome ways possible. Stannis burning Shireen and it amounting to nothing and costing him his army and life is basically just a retelling of Denethor burning himself and it costing him his life.

If Jon truly stayed dead it would be more shocking at this point than reviving him. Which is clearly not what GRRM was going for. GRRM wanted it so that his ultra edgy grim dark world killed off so many characters that when Jon died the reader would think "damn another dead protagonist". Then be ultra shocked when Jon comes back from the dead. But GRRM's spoon feeding style of foreshadowing and his plot armor style of writing gave away his intentions and ruined an obvious twist.

The entire world makes no sense at all. Even stripping away the fantasy elements like the HBO version and focusing on the politics reveals a world with almost no logic or believability. Like Jaime not telling anyone that King's Landing is filled with dangerous wildfire stores was preposterous. Or no one sending armies to kidnap Dany and her dragons when they were young and harmless before they could grow to be army killing flying fire cannons.

I feel like Stannis is more of a Theodan subversion. Theodan is a good man, but failure of a king who redeems himself in the end. Stannis is a flawed (by the setting) who fails to be king and will fail to redeem himself.

I am some pages and weeks late, but you are mistaken. Not all Targs have white hair. And not all white-haired people are Targaryans.

Many Essosi people have also silver hair without being Targaryens or Valyrians.

Ashara Dayne had purple eyes and she wasn't Valyrian, according to Martin. Young Edric Dayne has dark blue eyes that look purple (perhaps Ashara's eyes are a case of this, like Liz Taylor). And both him and Arthur (I think?) had pale blonde hair. She definitely wasn't because Aerys II wanted to marry Rhaegar to a real Valyrian and if Ashara had been one, he would have chosen her as a bride.

The Targs are niggers in the shows now. Like any of this matters anymore. GRRM and his HBO team are so embarrassing. We go from painstaking investigations of hair color over Joffrey's birth. To full on retcons of practically every lineage and genealogy in the entire series in the span of a decade. They can retcon and rewrite practically all of the lore as they want it and most fans will not care anymore.

Well, they go from "ACKSHUALLY it is the hair colour, see!?!?!", but have the cheek to make the Velarions and niggers instead. The Velarions are described as beautiful akin to the Targeryens, not as niggers or race mixed in what the show did to them. It's just the show writers being cheeky and people in general being demoralized in fear of being labelled "wahcist". It was just an excuse they pulled out of their asses that the "Dragon-benders" are their own race". I couldn't find the reporter that said so, but I think some dipshit from fandom menace reporting it.

As for GRRM and & ASOIAF in general, this thread really made me realize how much I was blinded to the "greatness" of how much I thought this series was great. How much the "Gritty realism" was merely shallow and it either misguided ones believing into a good product in the best case or a bunch of hacks in the worst case.
