Look, not every Pokémon needs some dramatic change when it evolves, just being bigger and fiercer is often enough. They're not Digivolving, it's just metamorphosis.

Naturally and it can be done right. Pointing at Gen 1 again, Magneton is just three Magnemites stuck together but I think it works. Same with Dugtrio and Dodrio. Voltorb literally flips around and gets a new face. It sounds lame when I put it like that but there are little elements that make them feel "evolved" so to say.
Muk just feels lacking in that department.
Then again, I don't know what else you could do. If anything the Alolan version just dipped them in dye.

I find Gholdengo worse (though Gimmighoul's pretty bad too)
The "dreadlocks" ruin it. I get that it's not supposed to look realistic, but it's so cartoony that it's distracting. It's supposed to give off the impression of hair, but it's so exaggerated that it looks like a bunch of gravity-defying dicks weakly attached to a head. I hate them the same way I hate Lucario's dreadlocks. If they wanted to design a Pokemon with hair, they didn't have to draw each individual "strand". Alolan Dugtrio did the hair thing better.
It's funny because it's literally the same thing as his other show, Legend of Chamberlain Heights

Lucario got dreads? I just thought it was a case of weirdly shaped fur kinda like Electrike. Although its Mega Evolution that could probably make those things classify as dreads. Anyway if we're talking about Pokemon hair, I'd say my favorite is Scrafty.
Anyway upon looking at Gholdengo again, it looks like an Olympic Games mascot.
And since we're shitting on pokemon, I don't like Frigibax.
Its evolutions are fine but this one looks like ass. Litterally. Its head looks like an ass.

It looks like a down syndrome Treecko. Treecko itself had an ass-head. Speaking of that, Sceptile was such a downgrade and probably one of the first examples of pokemon with too much random details attached. I generally like Gen 3 designs but some of them like Castform and Medicham just look too much like balls.
Edit: I dislike how the 3D generations made them all look so fat. Look at how they ruined Flygon (one of my favorite designs). It's supposed to be sleek and serpentine but now it's potbellied like Charizard.

Ah, Flygon. The one that is always left behind in the dust. I remember being mad that Flygon never got a Mega Evolution.
I will admit, I like Sceptile as it is. Though the balls on its back were always a little weird to me but I guess it makes sense given its typing and the theme of plant reptiles.
That said, its Mega Evolution borders on overdesigned. And yeah I guess that was the point of Megas; kinda overblown designs to illustrate how the process of Mega Evolving pushes the Pokemon beyond its natural limit.
So it'd make sense if they look busy on the eyes.
Though on the other hand, Camerupt just looks like a regional form.

Ennui is just female Fear. it's a pretty lazy with how much it and Anxiety apes Fear. Actually, it makes me think of that one girl on DA who created her shitty ripoff OC of Fear called Scary Fear or some edgy retarded shit.
And I can't decide if I hate Envy or not.
The writing is a whole other story, fuck that shit.
Out of all the emotions, Embarresment actually looks alright. All of this makes me lowkey terrified of the movie.

Kinda unrelated but it makes me think of another coomer gacha game, Azur Lane. All the characters are drawn by different artists and you can really get an uncomfortably apt sense of a specific artist's fetish depending on how the character is drawn.
Yeah you got the usual tits and ass but then there's the lolicons and the foot fags and they have zero chill. Then you go their Pixiv and it just cements the coom.
I remember liking one of the non-coom artists and wanted to see more of their portfolio. Ended up just looking through the rest of the artists' catalog for the hell of it and connected more dots than I ever wanted to.
