I had some thoughts about the shift away from lolcow forum and this thread already sucks so I'm going to voice them here.

I think there's an uncomfortable reality that gets overlooked in this discussion, which is that a lot of us just outgrew laughing at literal retards. When I found out about chris I was a teenager and it was incredibly comic because I was a teenager, but the older I get the more tragic it looks in retrospect. Nowadays I much prefer to laugh at figurative retards, i.e. people who know better and earn their ridicule. And maybe I'm projecting, but I think I see this sentiment reflected in the community at large recently with the response to the Total Retard War and the furry ERP leaks. So while I understand the nostalgia for a more passive, lighthearted, Jane Goodall sort of community, it feels to me like the nostalgia you get for high school or college. And God knows it's pathetic to try to relive those experiences in your thirties.

There's also something psychicpebbles said once that comes to mind, which is that laughter is in part the body's response to new information. Babies laugh at everything because everything is new to them, adults laugh at the unexpected and the absurd. But after a certain amount of time spent staring into the autistic void, the things you see cease to be novel. Once you've seen one diaperfur, you've seen them all. So unless you want to cater to people who have never seen a diaperfur before, I think you're just going to have to accept the fact that the community has grown jaded together. We can be mindful to enjoy the autism we witness, and to remember it fondly, but we're running out of things to see with fresh eyes.

I think and I always wanted to ask is would fellow farmers be open to new things even though it isn’t the old way, because we want to have it return to the old days before Chris and the Internet itself had turned rancid.
