You fail to recognize how lonely people in this world are, and how much they are willing to spend to try and alleviate that pain. His supporters generally like seeing him rage at a game; recently, Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6, Baldur's Gate 3; where he was boohoo whining and crying most of the time. The marriage is one of convenience because he has literally nothing else besides a toyota camry and a tekken 3 trophy from decades ago... and a decade of failure?

I think there's a few different types of paypigs, but it essentially boils down to them being different types of pathetic. I think some of them like to LARP as heroes, pretending they're supporting Phil the underdog and owning the detractors by donating to Phil. There's less of these around than the earlier Phil days.

Then there's the people who don't really care that much about Phil, but are desperate for any sort of community interaction. They donate because it lets them exist for longer without being banned and gives them the faintest bit of power in his chat. Again, this is kind of a dying breed, ironically because I think a lot of them ultimately ended up getting banned because their money only buys so much ban evasion.

There's the ironic/drama fans. They're similar to the first group but instead of living their fantasies of owning their bullies through Phil, they're mostly there to see Phil say stupid stuff. They tend to tip the bare minimum, but it still adds up.

I think these days, the bulk of support comes from the dents. Some of them are literally retarded, like...actual diagnosed mental conditions and unable to function without adult supervision. Others are figuratively retarded, possibly with undiagnosed mental conditions and, while legally are able to function without adult supervision, would benefit from having it. This group is more or less what you'd expect from sad, parasocial viewers. They mostly tune in because DSP has a fairly reliable schedule. It's sorta like the equivalent of someone in a nursing home zoned out in front of the TV watching CSI marathons or whatever happens to be on. Some of them are active in chat, others just quietly watch Phil dangle keys in front of them.

His wife is pretty boring. She comes from a broken home, and basically settled with Phil for free room and board. She was working at one point, but it was just 20 hour part time work at a store, usually two or three days a week. We're not sure if she's still working these days, but if she is, it's probably the same part time shifts. I'd say she's borderline literal retard. Which side of the border may vary depending on who you ask. At the very least, we all tend to agree she's very simple. No real ambition, is as much of a hermit as Phil, and seems to spend all her time playing video games. Probably the biggest difference between her and Phil is it sounds like she actually enjoys video games. Every now and then there's some wild speculation or theories about her, but I think it's just attempts to spice up how boring she actually is.

I like how he went from "FFVII Rebirth is the hot new game that everyone will want to see so I'm done with shitty BG3" to "stop asking for FFVII Rebirth or you're fucking banned, we're playing more BG3" within what felt like the span of a few days. It was less about being sympathetic towards DSP and more about issues with the community. I don't think he cares much about DSP one way or the other. He'll sometimes comment on DSP antics, but he otherwise avoids the gout vortex. I'd kinda compare it to people who know about Chris-chan as "the Sonichu guy" but don't know about him trooning out or the stuff with Barb. I think for a lot of people, DSP is a pretty boring cow to follow. He's pretty repetitive and doesn't have the same presence as some of the other more notorious cows because of his hermit status. For many, he's a combination of "the dude who jerked off on camera that one time" and "that guy who plays video games poorly." It doesn't help that there's a lot of detractors who are arguably just as bad as Phil out there, and we tend to all get lumped together even if we actively have threads on some of those people and actively mock them. Again, I think it's a case of people having limited knowledge on Phil and assuming everyone is still a SoK or Bryan Dunn level of detractor because that's what they knew when Phil wasn't such a niche cow.

There's usually some confusion where people think the hatred towards Phil is because he plays our favorite games badly and negatively reviews them and gets a bunch of his fans to shit talk said game series, not realizing that the gameplay has arguably been one of the most boring parts of Phil's persona for at least the last five or so years, that Phil doesn't really review anything in the first place, and Phil's audience is miniscule compared to his glory YouTube days. Or that people are jealous of Phil's money, not realizing it turned out Phil wasn't sitting on some massive savings as many believed back in the day and it turns out he was massively in debt, had to declare bankruptcy and, while he still does make more money than he deserves, he's not just printing money by exploiting early YouTube loopholes and barely clears 1k views on his videos. They basically know original YouTube Phil and not the Twitch/YouTube 2.0 version of Phil, which are very different people.

Not that all of that applies to Null specifically, but it seems like it's the general impression whenever people from outside of the vortex stumble in whenever there's a fresh wave of infighting or similar drama around here.

The more you know about DSP, the less sympathetic towards him you become. Null knew more about the bad things people have done to DSP than DSP.
