Sony hate thread

Square's management definitely saw the writing on the wall with how bad FFXVI flopped on PS5 which explains why they renegotiated their Sony contract and changed Rebirth to a (supposedly) three month timed exclusive, and they were clearly in the right for doing so going by how bad the game is selling right now.
Yeah, them trying to focus on Tifa in a swimsuit was rather telling. Felt like a "break glass in case of emergency" response.
Damn, and people said Starfield was a disaster.
Starfield was dogshit but it at least sat in the daylight and everyone saw that it was dogshit. Meanwhile FF7 Rebirth just went under the radar as no one seemed to give a fuck. It's one thing to make people dislike your game but to make people not even care about your game at all is a far scarier situation for a company's future.

If it sells like arse and costs the company money, they may not even bother with the final game.

Trilogies being cut short before the final games has happened before.
True, but I feel like S-E would want a trilogy so they can sell a complete/game of the year edition of down the line. Plus, they have multiple other big sellers on the horizon like KH4 to make up for FF7's middling sales.

It would be really funny if the 3rd game ends up being a multi-gen release like the 1st game and then they release a trilogy version later that's also multi-gen.

Imagine someone spending hundreds for LR Abby.
and hundreds more for her "iconic hammer"

Holy fuck, FF7 Rebirth dropped down to 8th and it still hasn't passed FF16's week 1 sales of 336k.

If it keeps slowing down, FF7 Rebirth might not even break FF16's week 1 sales after 2 months. What an embarrassment.
and neither of them came close to the low budget Mario RPG remake, which was turn based, which they say doesnt sell, and a faithful remake, which they say doesnt sell

They probably put more time and money into Starfield, I don't know how badly it did but they probably were relying on it more than Square is with Rebirth.

Wasn't it a golf club? I never played that crap though so I don't actually know lol.

And which had no woke shit. But they still won't learn from this.

It's unclear how much Bethesda or Microsoft for that matter was relying on Starfield being a hit but it was meant to be a generation defining title. In a way, it is, being newly-acquired Bethesda's first foray into 9th gen, and appropriately also being AIDS. At some point, we tried to break down sales in the thread and the jury is still out as to whether it made whatever small amount of money or just broke even.

I just figure that it isn't just about the game itself, but the fact they prioritized it so much. I think that suggests they (Bethesda) expected to start another major franchise here. They could've made TES6 or FO5 but chose SF, so I think they were really banking on it being huge.

Jesus fucking oof!

Either people are waiting for the pc version (this is the cope) or the FFVII grift is on it's last leg. I still want to play the thing (with discount and dlc included) but I'm surprised it's doing so much worse than XVI.

Also heard that square decided to rollback the only good idea they've had in a decade of releasing A and AA games. Yeah, harvestella didn't sell shit, but it probably didn't cost much and Live A Live sounds like it did pretty well and this withouth going into the octopaths.

Yeah, I thought he showed up a little late too, but you also get five characters before you're even out of Midgar. I never really thought about it, but Final Fantasy's usually pretty good at delivering your full party roster early enough to where you get to enjoy them for most of the game. Final Fantasy VI, you get everyone but the two secret characters before the massive midgame event. Final Fantasy V, the last one is Faris, who arrives within like the first hour or so (Cara may as well be a sprite swap). Final Fantasy IV... well, nevermind.
FFIV is only keeping Cecil in high levels. Kain appears for a good chunk before dissapearing again but you have FuSoYa for a while (which is a war horse in its finest) before returning.
Cara (or Krile) is just a sprite swap like you said: she obtains all the stats gains and job levels from Galuf.
And... you never played FF2: you have Minwe (dies), Joseph (dies), Gordon (survives), Leyla (survives), Ricard (dies) and the last one before the Pandemonium is Leon. That game have the MOST character swaps before the final one.

IMO it's worse than the sales would indicate. They have taken a major reputational hit.

I was very much looking forward to TES6 since I finished Skyrim. Now I'm just assuming it will be shit and don't bother. I can't be alone in that -- imagine with how huge budgets are now what comes from even a modest 15% drop in interest at launch? It could bankrupt them.

I still don't understand why people would buy a remake made in 30 parts that doesn't even have the same genre as the OG. It's like me fucking remaking age of empires 1, splitting into 30 parts and making it a racing game like what the fuck squeenix
Cause it's not a remake. It's a fanfic memberberry filled sequel and cat has been out of the bag about that for a while. It's also made for those that played the original due to how the first part was nudging and winking at you half the time.

I may be interested because I'm a retard that has zero taste when it comes to the FFVII characters (if I had a ps2 in the day, I would have probably at least tried playing Dirge of Cerberus) but I'm the games target demographic. Turns out looking at sales it's a lot narrower than I thought.

And now they are suffering from dividing the game, people won't start with 2 if they haven't played 1 and you also have a good chunk of people that either thought 1 sucked or was meh, so have no desire/hurry to go into 2.

I'm just mostly surprised that the goose seems spent, FFXVI seemed like it came out with a collective shrug so I expected VII reborn to perform better, but if it can't even beat those numbers, well I expect a lot of japanese screaming behind a close door and a cut pinky or 2.

Dude, you're just not part of the "modern target audience" we are going for.
But please buy our game anyway!
