The Netflix documentary starts off shockingly strong then tanks in the second half. It begins with a pretty well done outline of the history of 4chan, the early early meetups at Otakon back in the mid 2000s, interviews WT snacks, the beginning of anonymous, goes over the Habbo hotel raids, trolling of Hal turner and all that. It has some pretty cool animations to go along with it. If you're into internet history you will enjoy it.

I'm not going to watch it but they better make reference to Lowtax (RIP nigger) and SA.

Then you hit about halfway mark when Gamergate is brought up and everything falls apart. They drop the mask of making a documentary about 4chan and goes into what the real narrative is "REEEEE GAMERGATE TRUMP QANON NAZIS!!". It's sad because the first half is so promising. Like I would recommend the first part to people here who are interested.

Do they still believe that Trump was elected because of memes instead of the fact that Trump was running against a warhawk who's husband visited an island owned by a now-dead pedo jew? Do they really think that 4chan influenced the voters instead of the voters being sick of the uniparty system?

/v/ has a huge problem with big discord raiding groups that just decide they hate a game and will shit up any thread about it. Not even in a "for the lolz" type way, like these are insane people who HATE these games and will do anything to stop them from being discussed. So it doesn't surprise me that there are more groups for other shit.
True, but they're also fun to mock. It's no secret that I stan Outer Worlds here sometimes, but you wouldn't believe how mad this makes some discorders on /v/. Simplest way to get a few easy lolz going is to defend Outer Worlds there and say that that it is better than Fallout 4 or Fallout 3, then the Bethtards and the discord trannies(same thing) pop out of the woodworks while the average /v/irgin who didn't actually play the game chimes in and shits themselves all over the thread. Fun times, and actually organic compared to their amateur hour "first day on 4chan" type raids.

James McCaffrey, voice of Max Payne, dies. Zero stickies from jannies on /v/ despite many threads being made and the character being one of the icons of the board.
3DS service died out today, not a single sticky either on /v/ or /vp/.
The community is dead and mods are niggers. Hell, most threads on /vp/ are just coom shit and zero effort one line OPs, I bet most posters right now aren't playing the games, let alone even know that 3DS servers died today. I hate that website, thank goodness I stopped using it years ago so I have no expectations anymore.
Edit: Do I even need to comment on this?
vp first page when 3ds servers shut down.png
Reposting catalog mere hours before the shutdown occurred (note that whole 1 thread that was talking about it outside their wifi general)
vp catalog in the last hours before the shutdown.png

Or just open a thread in /vr/ about the xbox 360 being the best retro console. See them shit and piss their jammies in real time.

If you want to add salt to the wound tell them that when AVGN did his review of Simon's Quest that game was exactly as old as the Xbox 360 is today. Seethe guaranteed.

I just got done watching the netflix doc and it's very mediocre. It surpised me by starting off well, it has some interesting commentary on the beginning of 4chan and the literal whos don't make any extravagant claims, except for repeatedly saying "WE did this..." and "WE did that...". Kirtaner keeps the yapping in control. It then covers all of the gay raids and real life protests, which is a very cringe reminder. I find it pretty interesting that the fox news hacker on steroids clip is never shown (unless I missed it)....
...and when it hits the GamerGoober era it's downhill FAST from there. A very high level, light touch coverage of Trump's election, QAnon and then a lot of talk about the capitol riots which I don't remember having much to do with 4chan? It finishes in the worst possible way with Kirtaner finally getting his 5 minutes of fame and claiming to be the ultimate hacker man and final boss of the internet bla bla bla

It's not as bad as I was expecting, I guess it's worth watching if you have nothing else to do, but it's still very mid. 6/10 is the best I can do
I'm still going to watch the documentary mainly because of the novelty of seeing a website I frequent get a film made about it. Thou I completely agree that the Trump and the capital riots is a blatant falsehood.

so true sis, anyone that doesn't like the latest jap-jank AAA slop produced by FROM or Capcom is a discord tranny!!! I even have the faked screencaps to prove it. nobody talks shit about elden ring on our watch

I didn't realise how bad the shill problem was until I saw the StopKillingGames thread. SO MANY nonsensical arguments being made in FAVOUR of not owning your games and not having private servers. I can't tell which are shills and which are zoomers who have become used to having microtransactions, poorly optimized and unfinished games, and always online DRM measures on their game.

Fucking hell.

Worse, you got retards who will say whatever is contrarian because that is super duper funny. Same people are from reddit or twitter and will cry if you say "nigger" btw, or even report you since they think reporting thought crimes is a norm on all websites.
4chan let in the retards and when they were laughing at them, since they weren't kicked out immediately after, they thought the users were laughing WITH them, not AT them and thought they were in good company. This is the end result of this(that and the inevitable corporate/discord shilling)
As future 8chan users found out during the original GamerGate, trying to talk about anything anti-gaming establishment simply doesn't work, the posters are too cattle brained and mods are compromised. Hell, when NeoGaf had a split and ResetEra was formed the discussions even on that were censored because there were so many lefty faggots on the (0$) payroll.

Semi recently I was having a conversation with a co-worker's little zoomer brother. Kid's like 19. Anyways he was bummed about being broke yet pulled in a 1000+ dollar paycheck from his McJob. I asked him how.
Evidently he blew 900 bucks on lootcrates trying to get a particular skin in some shooter that he's been playing.
Then he coped with it's fine though because I got a bunch of other cool stuff.

Modern /v/ is dead to me, It's the reason that I come here for Video Game recommendations and not there.

I haven't watched it, but I am genuinely curious how they portrayed this part (primarily the coordination of groups on IRC that would spur /b/ into invasions) and whether or not they explained how it was done for the lulz instead of politically motivated reasons (which started with Chanology in 08), especially since it seems they've put Kirtaner into an usually high spotlight in that trailer. Hal Turner wasn't the first radio show raided with calls, /b/ was doing that to stuff like Tom Green's show and other radio shows with no call filters as well months before Hal's final talk show. Was any of that mentioned? Probably not considering how the latter portion of the documentary is politically charged as you said.

Pretty much. That's been a ongoing issue ever since 4chan started getting rampant streams of traffic since 2007. Any and every facet of 4chan is misunderstood and taken for face value and becomes the thing it once mocked. Take a look at Rule 34, something that started out back then as a joke on 4chan primarily on /b/ to satirize cartoon porn sites at the time with artfags commissioning absurdly comical requests for cheap laughs. It's now terminology taken literally by people who think its the very thing it mocked all across the internet even if the very idea of why its called "rule 34" originates on 4chan.
Now when did it happen to /v/? I would say around 2009-2010 when Gamefaqs mentality started to bleed into the board. The same site that /v/ once upon a time mocked and looked down on for its over zealous nature of fanboyism and console war nonsense. Remember the Gamespot Top Heroes of All Time poll in 2009?
https://web.archive.org/web/2009100...reatest-video-game-hero/my-bracket/index.html
https://board8.fandom.com/wiki/Gamespot_2009_Contest#4chan_Controversy
Basically was a rigged bracket of scrimblos vs titans you'd see on Gamefaqs with all the predictable results. /v/ saw this and decided to have a little fun with it by voting in Bub & Bob over individuals like Master Chief or Sonic. Gained lot of drama and even headlines, but most importantly - and tragically - it also garnered attention to /v/ as a board. Gamefaqs forums were up in flames over this and ultimately Gamespot sour pussed votes off B&B against Samus. And then you just started noticing a difference with /v/ and way too many people who saw the mockery on that board took it literally thinking they were in good company.
And within a few years moot would just outwardly show how much he despised that board.

/pol/shit belongs on /pol/
Trying to silo /pol/ on 4ch is like trying to silo monkeypox while sucking truck stop penis ten times a day. That is the aggressively dominant culture on the site (both /pol/ and diseased cocksucking). It has taken over so much culture, even leftist cultures, that trying to nix it is futile. 4ch is /pol/ territory, for better or worse.

It's fun to make fun threads and make yourself popular because you create the same threads over and over again with the same subject, rules need to be more lax, it's okay to have fun online and be off-topic.
I usually post a lot in in /co/ and I do this a lot in /v/, I'm surprised that no one has ever got me and talked about me here because it's so niche and hilarious that a lot of people already got me cool nicknames there, 4chan is great because you can powerlevel your most secret of secrets without any repercussion.
4chan is not my favorite website on the internet but it's a pretty cool place to be 100% open about anything and you can find cool people there.

It's always kinda sobering to go on 4chan and see just how out of touch some of the people who post there are. You got guys on /co/ still posting about a 10 year old show or comic like it just came out and the masses have forgotten about it, not aware that it's had an explosion of popularity recently. Then on the other side of the coin, /a/ and /v/ love to pretend that they're the only people aware of something and it's a secret boys club...as if the OP didn't get the idea to make a thread from Twitter or MAL.

It just goes to show, you can find the most enlightening posts you've ever seen or some crotchety old man yelling at the sky.

Edit: It occurs to me that I made a post just like this a few months back. Huh, maybe I'm the old man yelling at the sky.
