Fallout series

Fallout 3 gets shit on (rightfully so) but of the Bethesda slop it came the closest to “getting” Fallout.

They learned nothing from it and instead only learned seethe that the best Fallout wasn’t made by them.

Just finished watching the show with a couple of veteran friends. The show up until the last episode was watchable and at times really enjoyable, then the last fucking episode absolutely butchered so much world-building and Mr. House's character.

Here's a copypasta.
[Barter 100] "Very well courier, I, along with Vault Tek and a short list of other captains of industry plotted the destruction of the world for profit. No, my preparation was no gamble - I was in the room when it was planned actually. I even designed a few vault experiments myself. Yes, Vault 21 was one of mine. Hmm? Why didn't I design the vault to turn them into my perfect employees for 200 years instead of civilizing backstabbing tribals? Because it was funny. Try to stop Vault Tek? Why? Once the world became a radiation bathed hellscape, I planned to simply rebuild Vegas to modern spec, that is, were that I had that blasted platinum chip in time! Cold fusion? Ah yes, you've been reading my diary. Well, you see, it was easier to destroy the world rather than try to position myself on top of a post-scarcity world. Why didn't I just borrow cryostasis technology? Don't bother asking. You wouldn't be able to comprehend the answer. What? Yes, you may have an additional 50 bottle caps. As you know the house always wins."

You think they would have just bit the bullet, accepted that New Vegas was far superior and made a show based on that.

Speaking of New Vegas, has anyone heard of the mod New Vegas Dust? I had recently been getting back into fallout and having heard good things about this mod I watched a few videos about it enough to get a general sense of what little lore there was.

Basically its one of these super-duper hard survivalist mods which erases any and all quests beyond "get the fuck out the Mojave" in favor of an attempted "environmental storytelling" schtick. The setting is 10 years after the game in which the area has become an absolute nightmare hellscape because of all the shit done by the Courier and the unintended side effects. The NCR abandoned the area and are implied to be falling apart after going full fascist, Caesar's Legion is effectively gone as a faction, New Vegas itself is a destroyed ghost town, and the only people who are not insane raiders or dead are hiding in tiny derelict outposts scattered across the map. Effectively the gist of the concept is that its the aftermath of the worst possible ending imaginable for the original game.

Reason i'm bringing it up now is because effective as of this week its effectively fucking canon. Rocks fall, everybody from the West Coast to the Texas border dies. Nu-Brotherhood from the East Coast (now with extra blandness) takes over and everything is basically the capital wasteland forever. The end.

So if you want what is pretty much the canon New Vegas sequel you have been waiting for, download the mod and gib it a try.

Maybe I'm just crazy or going senile, but wasn't everything going to shit foreshadowed within New Vegas itself?

I swear to God it was a point brought up that the NCR was stretched too thin and Hoover Dam/New Vegas could be the factor that cripples it. (not to mention the talk about Tunelets destroying NCR in Lonesome Road)

Caesars Legion was said to be doomed to fall once Caesar died regardless of a Hoover Dam victory.

Independent New Vegas is said to suffer from chaos and anarchy in the streets.

The House ending is the only one that kind of paints a better picture, but with House ultimate goal being to *leave* Earth, it's easy to see New Vegas going down the path of Independence. That's not even getting into the fact that New Vegas would *obviously* suffer from the fall of the NCR and/or Legion anyways. Is there *really* enough traffic within the Mojave itself to sustain New Vegas?

Execution is the fundamental here.

If there was a game or a show or whatever that depicted the NCR steadily or rapidly going down the terlit after New Vegas to the point of straight up balkanising, which combined with the Brotherhood resurgence allowed the balance of power in the area to be turned on its head while another societal breakdown occurs to vaguely handwave why everybody lives in a megaton clone then this show would be mostly uncontroversial beyond the terrible writing and the main actress being a deep one hybrid.

Having them be entirely wiped out offscreen by Capitalism-Is-Evil caricatures that would have been laughed out of the propaganda department of the early 1950s USSR for being too hamfisted and shallow, who were actchully the real villains all along, casually pissed away any decent story that could have been wrangled out of the "NCR falls" concept given how its end came not out of its own failings and contradictions, but because of some moustache twirling villain who showed up for the first time five minutes ago.

I mean hell, to use Skyrim as an example they atleast had the sense to have the Empire massively weakened and crippled rather than just wiped out between games, and between the vague setup in oblivion and the in-universe lore there was enough shit to justify why things had changed so drastically. Hell they did this twice over with Morrowind also getting blowed up and it actually being integrated into the story rather than just an offhand mention to explain the lack of dark elves.

I would have liked the protagonist of Fallout 4 to have a complicated past, particularly for Nate. Yes, I know a fundamental part of Fallout gameplay is deciding the past of the player, Bethesda, in their anti-design document, asses made your goddamn character have a linear background. I hope the casual fans find out how stupid Emil is the hard way. We'll never have a good Fallout or Elder Scrolls story EVER again.

True. And I felt like Lonesome Road set things up for future conflicts. Like Ulysses talking about how the bombs had awakened something in the Divide and the possibility of civilizations being overrun by the Tunnelers.

These dudes were going to replace Deathclaws as being the most terrifying thing to arise from the ashes of apocalypse.
God I fucking hated these things. Not as though they were ever imposing or much of a threat in the game, but because of how fucking annoying they were popping out the ground randomly. I remember spending more time trying to find them then ever worrying whether they'd overwhelm me in a battle.

I too like that the Courier, if you take the chad perk has at least one unclaimed kid who is at least sixteen and blew up Ulysses life without knowing, leaving that dreadlocked autist seething at a man who genuinely couldn’t care less.

Fuck off, Emil. Nate is showing in the FO4 intro he's in the army, so of course he killed people.

Just checked out the totally and 100% not astroturfed reddit (seriously, this is identical to what happened in the early weeks of LAWD DEM RAAAAAAAAAAANGZ on LOTR subreddits before shill team six was assigned to the next product) and found a theory so amusingly shit I kind of hope its true solely because while the show is little more than an exercise in wiping pre-bethesda fallout away and replacing with bland todd-mush, the sheer tism of Caesar's Legion fans this last decade or so has been so downright obnoxious I would be happy to see them taken down a peg or two and then forced to take a pegging or two.

Basically someone realised that the names and nomenclature and shit of the shows BoS is suspiciously.....roman with the organisation explicitly called a legion and everyone having names like Maximus, Titus, Thaddeus and Quintus. Moreover they seem a whole lot more Red color coded than any previous chapter and seem to be depicted as having a base smack bang in the middle of what should be Legion territory.

So what if this was actually intentional?

What if the troonified, goonified, singularity of cringe that is the shows brotherhood of steel is actually formed from the remnants of Caesar's legion after being buck broken by the brotherhood in the wake of their defeat and used to rebuild their own numbers with pre brainwashed fodder that could be easily buwwied with power armor and were already religious fanatics who just had their god emperor bitch out and die on them, thus leaving them ripe to be hoovered up by the next band of cultists with an agenda.

If this was true then legion-niggers can rest easy knowing they are well represented by what would be the true heirs of Caesar
1713123209376.png

Again.....almost certainly not true given how little understanding or interest bethesda has shown in any lore that is not generic wasteland with 50s vibes, and how confusing roman shit with medieval knight shit is right up the alley of hack writers, but knowing that autistic Caesar simps would be chimping out at this would almost make the ache of this mediocre mush bearable

Chinese, Nate killed chinese, you know, the group not mentioned IN FALLOUT.

This whole thing reeks of them sanitizing the setting and further preparing it for more mainstream appeal, get rid of the West, get rid of chinese as the villians, quietly sunset anything that is not kosher with “post apocalyptic 1950s” and then get rid of any moral complexity with “big power armor man kicks ass”

For the record, changing Nate’s kills to Canadians doesn’t mean anything, you know how many of those bug people we have up here? Stupid wop motherfucker.

Anything that isn’t 1,2,3 or Vegas isn’t canon, the Courier became House’s fixer and pretty much lived a Fallout version of “Casino” running the Lucky 38. That’s my delusion and I’m sticking with it

Fallout New Vegas has honestly been in a modding renaissance lately. It's insane how good the quality of the mods has gotten. I could go on Nexus for New Vegas and find some great mods that improve the quality of life, add new gameplay features or mechanics, fix bugs or dev oversight, or improves stability. It's really a shame how the modding community for Fallout 4 has pretty much given up at this point since the tacticool scene took over. Though I am itching to try out the Attack of the Lobotomites mod since it brings back a lot of the cool stuff from Old World Blues.
Yep, New Vegas definitely have some good shit going for it, more than I can say for Fo4. I think Fo4's CK and engine in general isn't as moddable as previous games. I can't really say, maybe too many checks that prevent certain things? Maybe all the best talent left Fo4 because it wasn't nearly as interesting as Skyrim? Could be any number of reasons but the Fo4 modding scene just...like you said, gave up and now only coomer and tacticool mods are the main mods being pumped out. Attack of the Lobotomites looks good, funny because it's based on Old World Blues, old shit really was the best shit.

I hope Todd, Emil and the Amazon pigfuckers get raped to death. This is such mean-spirited, petulant BS.
Man, he really is a Big MT in the wrong way.
everyone talked shit about the show and i got that itch every man gets every 3-5 years. i started playing/modding the bejeezus out of new vegas. the shit these modders came up with in the past couple years is pretty crazy. the B42 mods, updated malenia weapons/animations, and the spergtacular ballistic simulator's been blowing my mind so far. the standard used to just be project nevada but that's also ten years in the dust. i swear there's going to be a point in ten years where you just drink brown computer water and you're in new vegas
Case and point, NV just can't stop winning that they had to shit on it in the show. Much as I hate Xilandro as a person, he definitely helped keep the NV scene alive until more and more modders either came back or just started out. Now let's look at the hot mods for Fo4. Lucy's backpack, a gun (love me Winchester I won't lie), another gun (Select's mods are cool at least), one glove (and I do mean one glove, not a pair, just one glove), an outfit, and coomer magazines.
:story:
"Bad guys don't win!", they said. "Don't ever do that shit again!", they said, and hence why the Big MT bad ending was eventually cut despite being all written out. Boy, that aged well.
You gotta be kidding me, fuckin' kek.
instead used that shitty fucking Assault Rifle.
Probably another thing Bethesda was upset at fans for not liking so they'll shove it down our throats until we do. Bethesda's anti-gun gun design. Either that or they were too lazy to make an Energy Rifle prop and CGI lasers.
But Todd wants all of Fallout to be you fighting bandits over the last box of Dandy Boy apples in an abandoned train tunnel like it's 2099, tripping over piles of skeletons as you go.
The sad part is, if they wanted that they could've made Fallout games set not long after the apocalypse (like unfortunately F76). Could've made a FROST-like game but then they'd have less ways to shove Marvel humor into their games.
Great, forced to dip my toes into this thread because of a friend of mine is telling me good shit about the Fallout show, he has only played Fallout 4/76 and says he has plans to buy the older titles. Do I kick this friend out or do I help him out?
Always help newfags see the light, if they reject it, thrown them out the gate.

If this is so simple, then you don't need the lead devs for this. Anyone can step up and continue Project Mojave
To clarify, simple for modders/amateur devs at their level. It was a dick measuring contest between Turkey and the trannies to see who was the top autist. It's common in modding; see the guy who made 3BBB tiddy physics and his beef with the ZAZ skeleton/Fusion Girl team.

To the newbie or guy who's modding abilities extend to outfit studio, it's way beyond their scope (which is why I can't understand why Elianora was worshipped like God's Gift when all (s)he does are mashups and basic bitch nif clothes that guys like Jmenaru or Vtaw put to shame).

It's still surreal to me that this fat fuck of all influencers and shills was the one to actually step up and say he didn't like it.
He didn't say he didn't like it, he said he had lore issues (funny coming from the gunt who tried to fit 4's Enclave Power Armor paradox anachronism into canon) with the first few episodes but remained optimistic the last episodes would explain all. I have no hope the fat fuck will clap just like everyone else on Bethesda's nuts or trying to grace themselves with the AAA industry.

IT AIN'T HAPPENING, not in the foreseeable future.
Fucking hell, just tell niggers "Do not update your game if you want to play a mod crafted from passion and dedication". Why should people suffer because some retards don't know how to keep their game as-is or install a second copy?

So either they love retards or the mod was never ready and is going to be shelved right next to Cascadia and Miami.

It's funny how you can date the game by this picture alone. You could really only get away with this in wild west of the late 90s, early 00s before corporate sanitization and internet outrage took over.

In the same vein, you can also date the TV show in a similar manner, with it's safe edgy aesthetic and weird mix of oddly sexual but sanitized.

Sigh, this is what i get for being hopefull. Fucking WW3 will start before any of the 3 big F4 mods will see the light of day.
What'd I say? Big modding projects almost never come out and if they do, they'll be fucked in some way.
I'm kind of tired of this in general. Every fucking game is constantly updating for fucking years after release and the updates provide nothing of value.

The most recent Cyberpunk parch broke mods and literally only did one thing. It supposedly fixed a crash that might occur when playing with a $1000 wireless mouse brand that no one owns or uses.
I think that's more the modding side. For various reasons mods are extremely volitile (for some games, for even more reasons I don't have enough knowledge to say accurately) so even a simple update like that will change the exe and break God knows what else.
I was told that'd be a normal thing in the vault *shrug*
Lol except it wasn't in the games, so many people get in the Vault that it'll be generations before incest can even be remotely considered. INB4 "but it's not a game anymore, it's a realistic TV show now! And also stop criticizing things that are impossible, this is a show with *insert unrealistic thing here.*" Tourists amiright?
Speaking of New Vegas, has anyone heard of the mod New Vegas Dust?
My friend we've mentioned Dust a few times now, but I do like talking about so it's eh.
It's funny how you can date the game by this picture alone.
Dialogue is one of the best ways to tell when a game was made, terms and slurs that can't be used anymore because it'll offend the right people, and we can't have that eh?

Autistic feelsposting below:

Been a lifelong Fallout fan. Bit of a youngtard so I started out with F3, traced the series all the way back to Interplay. Lived long enough to see the first IP I ever truly became a fan of turned into goyslop with the TV series. Well, it was Fallout 4 before that, but even Fallout 4 still had some interesting tidbits I thought- that was a decade ago now, or almost a decade. Wasn't that bad back then, even though I took that cue while I was still in high school to decide that Fallout was dead.

Naturally, I thought I'd given up on the future of it already, that nothing much would upset me after this. Retarded Fallout Shelter, broken Fallout 76 that took years to make into a decent game- water off duck's back for me, didn't care. So I don't know why this TV series has me this upset, but it has.

I've watched 6 episodes out of the total of 8, most I could stomach. I know I said goyslop already, but this shit was truly made to be easily consumed. The dialogue that leaves no space for character discovery, everyone screaming who they are in a matter of few words. The humor meant for the 30 to 40 year old milennial with current age sensibilities, repeating curse words that lend no impact to any character interaction, safe edgy. Hazbin Hotel degree stuff. The scenes having to be constantly overdirected with audial clues because the viewer needs to be told when to be excited and when to be tense- of course, the Wasteland can't speak for itself like it did in the games; none of the directors are capable of that kind of environmental storytelling; so the viewer has to be constantly stimulated. The lack of vision in setting up a main plot, pieces from the rotting skin of Fallout 1 and 3 patchworked together to resemble something the average slop consumer can perceive as reasonable enough questlines. The attempt at erasing NV while trying to make the "well, rocks fell" explanation behind it fathomable. But it is fathomable if you don't care. It's just slop. Come home from your eight hour shift, turn on the show with the fun fifties references and huge power armor props on and let your mind sit a little. You're tired and need something on the screen to kill a few braincells, so why not? And the average fan will be kept entertained enough by the million callbacks and true-to-game props. Enough fanservice to feed at least one subreddit.

There's so much more I could say. But I have shit I need to take care of today.
NV was my first introduction to Hegelian Dialectics. Even with Fallout 3 I was, at the very least, met with parts of American history I was theretofore unaware of. With this show I've watched the corpse of what was once something beloved be ground into pulp, then the remaining fleshy bits sent off in an open casket funeral.

I should just find a good fucking pen and paper system from the ones that already exist and play through my own scenario with a couple of friends. I know the solution is to produce something that you like and can share with others. Doesn't make it any less saddening that this is the new public face of Fallout now.
