Apparently the new Custodes codex mentions female Custodes. I don't feel good about this one bros...

I have nothing against female characters, quite the opposite, but this is sadly not an organic development.

They only exist because GW decided that screeching trannies and other male idiots are more important than their lore. These assholes complained and begged so much that the greedy GW fucks thought they can make money out of this and they probably will because coomers gonna coom.

IIRC they were originally an alt colour scheme for the Steel Legion miniatures when the Armageddon campaign stuff was happening. I’m not sure if they even got a paragraph of info though.

Speaking of which, I know the next book is Fulgrim which is that character background only stuff I believe, so if there is any guidance on what books are only the important A to B to C events of the Hersey following up from Galaxy in Flames (and HOPEFULLY Eisenstein) let me know.

I’d really recommend reading Fulgrim. Personally I liked it way more than I thought I would as an EC in-enjoyer but it gives the EC a bit of depth that makes them more compelling villains IMO. The book is also shockingly dark compared to the rest of the heresy.

The Anthology's are somewhat skippable, some of the shorts are pure fluff others tie into the plot for serval books

I skipped a few of the anthologies because I just got so fucking bored reading a bunch of anthologies for a series that’s already so long with so many different characters.

I hated that they killed Warhammer Fantasy, but I eventually came to like AoS.
I hated when they started getting rid of Old Marines, but I eventually came to like Primaris.
In both cases; however, I would have preferred they never did the thing in the first place, but eventually came to accept it.
I hate this, but I will wait and see what they do with it before passing my final judgement. They might polish this turd, I doubt it, but they might.

Female Space Marines are my hard line though, I will drop this IP like a sack-o-bricks if they ever do that.

Edit: Also, I'm a couple of chapters into "The Deacon of Wounds" from the Warhammer Horror series. It's pretty good so far. It's about a Ministorum Priest trying to save his dying planet from a plague. I might do a book report on it when I'm finished.

1. The lore has never actually stated that Custodes are exclusively male, they have always had a mysterious different process for creating them that is not the same as making Astartes. This is a bit out of left field but considering only a few Custodes have ever shown their face canonically its not that crazy.

2. A "good chunk" is not freaking out. It's not even a whole lot. The grand majority of the community just doesnt care. This entire thing is astroturfed by attention whores like Arch and the Outer Circle and their nuthuggers.

Games Workshop went out of their way to double down on the male exclusivity of Astartes in the latest Horus Heresy book stating specifically female marines were impossible. Just a few months ago these same attention whores were parading this doubling down as a great victory against "woke". This forced woke-outrage shit is just absolutely cringeworthy to most of us who actually play and own models. I don't know a single person who actually owns models who cares, it's just ranging from indifference to excitement.

As someone who has vague recollections of 40k lore, how long does it take to cook up a Custodes? My slightly autistic mind wants to have this be a result of Girlyman wanting more Custodes visible for propaganda's sake. 40k was born in the crucible of shit like Heavy Metal magazine and the Arcade version of Battletoads. That's why so much of the old art looks like it came right off an album cover. It was never about left and right (though it did pretty blatantly take shots at Margaret Thatcher back in the day), it was about a dark larger-than-life setting that would allow for both the biggest heroes and darkest villains to shine. It was a sign of the time and subcultures it was designed around. A lot more hair metal than it is now.



The bigger codifications of the setting and its lore came way later, which is why you can find old Rogue Trader shit going on about a Space Marines who have traces of Eldar blood and other similar tomfoolery and why old Noise Marine shit had guitar guns and vehicles that looked like mobile crack parties on top of glorious silliness like the old Tyranid Carnifex.

That's why in and of itself, the Custodes shit doesn't really matter. We've been down this road before. What does matter is the larger implications company-wide. When the reaction of their CM is to blanket block anyone who criticizes their decisions, it's usually fair to assume what one is going to see going forward.
