Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I remember reading that the Tsar was still somewhat popular when he was killed which was a issue. There was a big controversy over the kids thought which a lot of people were angry about.

The one person no one cared was killed and everyone just sort of went "good riddance" was the Tsarina actually.
I'll always belief that the event that damned Nicholas II and his family (Especially the poor Tsarveich Alexei) was the Czechoslovak Legion (Might have been a different contigent of the White Russian aligned movements) being within miles of where they were being held. They were on bought time anyways like the rest of the Romanovs who couldn't get out of the country soon enough, but there was no way Lenin was going to risk the Whites getting the Tsar to prop up as a figurehead despite how divided they were politically.

If we really want someone to blame for Russia's woes, it should be that moron Kerensky who armed the Bolheviks and especially Nicholas II brother, Grand Duke Michael. For some context, Nicholas abdicated for himself and his son in favor of Michael, but in all his brother's infinite wisdom, he decided not to take up the throne and instead wait for a referendum that would never happen. It might not have avoided the Bolsheviks, but it would have avoided the trainwreck that was the Russian Provisional Government.

TWR's going to update soon in like a week apparently. However the mod owner is constantly getting mad at people on Reddit over "update when????". Also the steam comments are amusing as well on the mod page. Mind you the mod hasn't been updated in a year.
Is this going to be an actual update or a TNO "we will remove some stuff for realism" update

like oof

Last time I played it was a real buggy mess, the different national focus trees would override each other. Hopefully some of it is fixed with this update, I'd be interested in giving it another go.

The execution of the Tsar and his family was completely winged and the Soviet leadership didn’t know anything about it. Trotsky convinced Lenin that they could use the Romanov family as a bargaining chip against the Germans to improve the conditions of the peace deal which eventually turned into the Brest-Litovsk treaty.

The Romanovs were being held in Yekaterinburg, which would have been a good idea, except for the fact that the Czechoslovakian Foreign Legion was advancing on the city. In fact, by the morning of that fateful day, the Czech guns were lined up outside the town and ready to open fire. (as you said!) The Czechoslovak Legion were fucking wild. They were constantly dealing with the worst conditions imaginable, like trudging through forests in hip-high snow and then they’d show up and the battle would be basically settled instantly in their favour. That's what a burning lust to get home does to a motherfucker.

The Yekaterinburg Soviet had a secret gathering, where it was decided that it would be ultimately better to execute the family than let them fall into the hands of foreign expeditionaries, or worse; the White Army.

They proceeded to wake the family, take them down to the basement, and gun them down. Lenin and Trotsky were not happy about it. Ultimately it was the right choice, allowing the Romanovs to live would have allowed the Hohenzollerns to mount a royalist insurrection in Russia backed by old nobles and foreign royals

I hope they finish Italy. Probably the most interesting country to play in the mod. Late game Italy is a buggy unfinished mess.

Or don't. It seems very sketchy
Havent checked the files or anything, but the simplest way to make an animated image in HoI4 is to create an image with the required amount of frames. In this instance, creating those (I presume) jumpscare animations would require huge image files, since every frame is essentially a separate image. IIRC there are more effective ways of making animations, you might have seen animated main menus for example, I believe those are not using the usual frame method, but for stuff like animated portraits (the various Mexican portraits in OWB come to mind, and might have been the first to use this method) the frame stuff is efficient enough.

The most common method is what they use in OWB like you say, which requires you to line up the images next to each other and tell the program at which pixel one frame ends and another begins. This is one of the Mexican leaders, which is nearly four megs in the original file format, or just shy of two megabytes when converted to a png.
portrait_zap_zapata_angry_animated.png

So it's quite possible that those 1.5 gigs are a sequence of 1920x####, with that number being 1080 pixels times the number of frames to generate the animation that they're using in the game's default format which is going to be nearly twice the size of a .png image on average.

So most likely nothing sketchy at all but that fact alone ought to be scarier than any jump scares in the mod, you're welcome.

Speaking of OWB, has there ever been any 'reactions' from the creators regarding the recent Fallout TV show? I fucking hope the devs behind that mod don't fuck it up by trying to incorporate any ideas from the TV show into the mod.

I know the devs are likely to be partly troons (I mean look up Robot City, a Doki Doki Literature Club reference in a Fallout themed HOI4 mod? Can't get any more troon than that without adding in ropes!) but they can't be that buck broken to where they have to toe the Todd Howard line and accept the TV show as gospel.

No idea but I'd be surprised if there ended up being no references to it.

The TV Tropes page for hoi4 mods is kinda funny. There is a lot of tooser mods. Rather than Kaiserreich the mod that started it all at the top, it's a not even a tooser mod but something I've never seen posted anywhere else before. Sure you can say it's in alphabetical order but still.
What is with all the "upcoming" mods? I looked up "Von Der Asche" and it was "announced" four years ago and is still vaporware.

P*r*dox did this when they legitimized off-site discussion the way they did.
It was like 10 years ago so I forget the details but around the time they officially retied Europa Engine and killed off all the licensed games after the trainwrecks that were Magna Mundi/East vs West/Runemaster they did a big community thing where they endorsed all the splitter forums and gave official sanction and support and shiny forum badges etc so long as they upheld the swedecuck EULA or something, the previous policy being "keep it ALL on OUR forum or get b&" whilst being surprisingly tolerant of nahtzee adjacent content (polandball thread RIP).
So of course the tankie wehraboos all turncoated and took the 30 silver-coated brooms the result being the sanitized troon-afflicted waste that is the modding scene today.

If I recall that mod was created by a Ukrainian who wanted to make his own TNO inspired mod before the war broke out. I have no idea if the creator of the mod is still around.

You know how a lot of people have issues with a lot of mods being glorified Visual Novels?

The types of people who make those VNs in HoI4 have a lot of overlap with the type of tranny to endless write shit on TvTropes.

Literally only a few of these have been actually released. They have TV Tropes pages because they establish lore, memes, wacky characters, endings and inside jokes before they even work on the mod.
