I've been playing Iratus: Lord of the Dead a bit. You might like it if you like DD 1. The combat mechanics are nearly identical, although the game progression is a lot different. Specifically, you only do one combat at a time, but it's considerably more deadly than DD (at least in my current limited experience). Even on easy, it's pretty unforgiving and while your guys can be replaced via a sort of crafting mechanic, if you die too much you more or less die of resource exhaustion and get left behind an eightball where really starting over is your only sensible option.
It's not as good, atmospheric or balanced as DD 1 got after a few years of tuning, but probably worth picking up if it goes on special. Now it's possible this is because of my lack of more experience, but it seems significantly more brutal than DD 1, which you really never actually lose outside of Stygian/Bloodmoon mode.
