Super Paper Mario, too. Although all it really needs is better textures and you can already do that on PC anyway. Always felt that game was underrated I played it on Wii years ago and loved it

I think some of the levels could be reworked but otherwise I think the game stood the test of time just fine.
All the references surrounding Francis (the chameleon geek) actually just got more relevant over time.

To my understanding, Vivian remains a boy.
But instead of an otokonoko, he seems to be more of an okama with the whole "girl's heart" thing, in a similar fashion of Fastiva in Granblue Fantasy (the bearded guy in third pic above) or the ones popping up in the famous manga One Piece. Also I assume the Japanese line and the screenshot in English (the second thumbnail above) are from the same dialogue as I wouldn't be surprised again that English localizers still refuse to faithfully translate.

Don't forget the cuphead devs had to mortgage their homes and suckle from Microsoft's teat to get their game to look the way it does, every indie game simply MUST look better than AAA just because Hades did.

Also I know for a fact I can do better than those devs atleast in the HUD department, the whole game looks like it was made in MsPaint.

You don't have to make the game look like the next RDR2, if it atleast looks good enough then that's fine. The autism simulator Omori and Stardew Valley were both made by small teams and they both look better than this garbage.
Hell even Minecraft when the only dude making it was a fedora wearing neckboard looked better than this since its Alpha stage.

I think it looks perfectly adequate. Not amazing but it conveys exactly what it intends to. I'll take it over a grossly overdesigned hud any day. But that's not really what this thread is about, so let's just leave it at that.

. The sleaziness of an unfaithful translation is indicative of all the qualms people have with translators right now.

I remember all the Nintendrones justifying the watered down script because "it was more accurate to the original script". Yeah, that aged about as well as you could imagine.

You may find it pathetic, but TTYD has a deeply nostalgic and emotional meaning to people, hence the vitriolic reaction.

Sooner or later, these people are going to have something that they love and enjoy get molested for "modern audiences". When that happens, I'll laugh.

I really don't think a couple lines is enough to ruin the entire remake. There are a lot of genuinely good upgrades here, besides the disappointing translation choice. I don't care how unpopular that is to say on here. I don't entirely avoid a piece of media because it may have a couple small flaws. I just think both sides of this kerfuffle are making a mountain over a molehill. I just want to play video games and this isn't a major enough thing for me to get angry over, at least for me.

I can't think of a single thing I like about this remake so far. The muddled, overproduced OST. The annoying "voices" from the companions that are beyond grating. The completely watered down script that removes and charm that the original had. The fact that every single surface is shiny because "WHOA, DUDE! GIRAFFICS!"

I feel really bad for you if you can't enjoy a game because it has a simple art style. Literally some of the most fun games growing up that still hold up were basically one man projects with simple art styles. But I guess salivating over the latest AAA $70 release with day one $20 skins is what real gamers prefer.

If it's just a direct translation of how the game was originally intended to be then I don't really think it's that big of a deal.

The original Japanese text from 2004 was kind of "TeeHee this is a man that dresses as a woman, isn't that silly. WTF?" It was a joke that the character looked like a ghost girl, but was actually a ghost trap. Basically the same joke they do with the tranny on Always Sunny where the person looks like an insanely attractive woman, but is actually a man and humor is derived from that.

The original 2004 translation turned the character into a woman because Nintendo of America didn't want to put a ghost trap in a children's game.

The remake does not derive humor from it and is basically like, "No actually, this is a brave and beautiful trans woman who was misgendered and it's not funny at all."

It is quite different from the original intent.

You need to invest in an S-Video cable for your N64.

Also, arguing with someone who is so into Paper Mario for N64 they have the ghost from it as their avatar isn't going to accomplish anything besides unleashing a torrent of autism.
