Here’s the issue I see with Nick. He tries to intellectually justify his drug use. And if he is mixing stimulants with stuff like benzodiazepines and alcohol. He’s fucked because that “euphoria” becomes ingrained into your DNA. IT takes about two years of complete sobriety to stop fantasizing about that multi drug cocktail.
So what’s the issue? He’s going to be prescribed a multitude of “Non-scheduled “ drugs like Antipsychotics,mood stabilizers,antidepressants this will begin another phase or “arc” of drug use based on trusting modern Psychiatric dogma, once he climbs over that hill and realizes he needs to be completely sober and no longer rely on ANY drugs, including alcohol. He might make it.

But people like him are too “book smart “ for their own damn good, and usually manipulate their way into more drug prescriptions whatever the cost.

Women with five children usually have better chances at seeing and implementing this sooner from my anecdotal experience with addicts.
