It's been a while since I played MKX but I don't remember the game having any woke shit in it. None of the characters were race swapped and most of the female characters weren't covered up like they were in MK11 and from what I remember they didn't make any of the normally attractive female characters ugly af like they did in MK1 (RIP Tanya)
Edit: Forgot about the tokenized gay character they put in the game. One of the male characters, can't remember his name, drops a subtle hint that he's gay but it's a throwaway line and from what I remember he never flirts with any of the male characters nor does he constantly tell everyone how much he loves cock.
Kung Jin. It was a very innocuous line that could mean anything really, given he was also a thief who felt inadequate compared to his cousin, Kung Lao.
Boon had to confirm it on Twitter after people hounded him about it.
MK11 kinda added a tiny thing in one of the intros that is kinda cringe. Think it was between Kung Lao and Raiden with the latter complaining how Kung Jin is oppressed because he's a fag by the other Kungs and Lao is like "No, fuck then. He's brave and stunning."
Meanwhile, he's not stunning enough to be in the damn fucking game.
They also got the relationship wrong because they changed Kung Jin into Lao's nephew instead of his cousin.
That aside, and take this with a grain of salt but a lot of people read into Tanya and Mileena fucking from X at least given their intro dialogues.
I will admit, I didn't mind nor did I mind it in 11 because to me, it always felt like a relationship that wasn't genuine from Tanya's side at least. IIRC she was a manipulative grifter, even in the Midway days so why wouldn't she be gay for pay if it meant power? Fucking Mileena worked for Reiko after all.
And it highlights that Mileena ain't all that shrewd or stable when everyone around her manipulates her for their own benefit and uses her as a tool or a stepping stone. (Rain, Reiko, Tanya, Shao Kahn)
Kombat Kids was a minority squad of white girl, black girl, and two asians (one of them being gay). They casually stroll into Outworld and the fag defeats the new Khan in a 1v1. The white girl ends up beating up Evil Katana after she takes out the black girl and the non-gay asian at the same time. She then goes on to beat the shit out of a fallen Elder God that's powered up by the Jinsei. There was also quite a bit of man face for the female cast.
Tbf I'd hardly call this woke. Take away the gay part, and it reads like a shitty Saturday-morning cartoon where the kewl new kids are here to prove how kewl they are instead of their boring ass parents.
Add the gay part and it's shit Gargoyles if Greg Weissman had his way.
Kung Jin was handled very well in MK X as far as his "gayness" was concerned. It was only mentioned once and never brought up again. Technically it wasn't a throwaway line, considering it was Raiden that was trying to get him to knock it the fuck off with the self pity. As far as the other story elements were concerned, yeah, the Kombat Kids were very, very poorly handled overall. I chalk that up to NRS' usual incompetence based on their shit story tellers.
I concur. They could have been handled very well but they fumbled the bag by making them either boring, annoying or almost good (Takeda)
I'm still annoyed that they decided to carry Cassie and Jackie into MK11 but not Takeda, the guy with an actually interesting and unique fighting style utilizing chain whips. I think he was also one of the most played characters in MKX too.
Me too. Especially with how much everyone mentions him, "He's preparing for a wedding", "He's on a mission", "Scorpion won't let Jacqui marry him unless she kicks his ass", "Fujin has to tell Jax to fuck off because Jax doesn't like his little girl getting married to Takeda for some stupid reason"
If it helps, Takeda is stated to appear in MK1. Then again, it's MK1 so.....
It's rumored that he'll be changed into being Kenshi's cousin instead of his son. Huh....
