Apparently the Bob-ombs in Fahr Outpost no longer speak with a Russian dialect and just speak normal English with the occasional missing article ("a", "the", etc). You know why.
On the same day that the virgin Paper Mario releases and afflicts itself with Russophobia, the Chad Bug Fables was just updated to add Russian language support :story:

The more I play it the more I do not like it. Everything is so slow. I've already mentioned that there's no way to speed up the text like you could in the original and with how much text there is in the game it really adds up fast how much time is wasted.

Then the level up is significantly slower. In the old one as soon as you leveled up the star meter would fill up, you would pick your buff, then it replenished your HP and FP. Now it asks you which buff you want, then slowly refills your HP, then slowly refills your FB, then slowly refills your star meter. It doesn't matter if all are maxed out, the game acts like you were at zero for all of them. I played my gamecube version and confirmed that the level up sequence takes a drastically shorter amount of time.

When you get a new ability it feels like you have to wait forever before you can input the command the game wants you to use. Then it feels like it takes forever for me to say I don't need to practice it again. I really don't see any redeeming quality for this game.

I've purposely ignored the drama surrounding the script and have at it from purely gameplay perspective. It wastes your time, it runs at a lower fps than the original, the new Origami King style music doesn't fit, and the visuals don't match the aesthetic. Rougeport and the sewers are supposed to be grimy, so why are the floors so glossy? The last two points are admittedly subjective, but it does detract from the game I think.

So besides the tranny ghost what else did they add? New quests, cut content, higher framerate, rebalanced items anything?
Characters offer more commentary, including companions speaking much, much more during cutscenes, and the fast travel system has been revamped so that a warp pipe hub leading to major areas (while also connected to major underground areas) is accessible from traveling a single screen in the town square, cutting down on backtracking significantly. Additionally, the infamous Creepy Steeple backtrack has been reduced thanks to an extremely convenient warp pipe, allegedly. There's supposedly two new bosses (one of which was a cut enemy) and a 100 percent completion reward, but I haven't gotten there yet.

There's a few QOL things as well. You teeter when you try to walk off ledges if they only do damage if you jump off, a training mode has been added which tells you of action command and stylish timings, badges with gameplay altering tradeoffs (like low health build badges) are more accessible as there is a secondary shop in the badge shop which contains them, money is more prevalent as some fights end with a cash bonus (probably to balance the extra badge availability), you can recall any tattles you've acquired on an enemy midbattle for free, they added a partner quick swap menu, and there's a dedicated help button where you can talk to companions for current quest hints. Although text is a bit slower because you can't fast scroll through it, fast scrolling becomes available if you've read the text before which makes it easier to tell if you're reading new dialogue, but they removed the ability to rewind text. I personally find the text a little sluggish but it's not unbearably slow. You can also hit every NPC in the game, which is nice.

Some people hate the music, but there is an option to turn it off via a 1 coin badge which costs 0 BP you can buy immediately. In my opinion, it's a mixed bag so far. Some are improved, like the Ms. Mowz theme, some are identical, like Petalburg's theme, and some are objective downgrades, like the panic theme during the Boggly Woods bomb sequence. However, the battle and victory theme has variants depending on the chapter and music dynamically loses musical depth if you wait a bit on battle menus, which I do like.

Visually, the game leans in harder on the paper aesthetic. The ground looks like construction paper which is accurately slightly reflective, there's intentional imperfections on backgrounds like gaps showing walls are made of cardboard, and water looks more like paper props instead of actual water. Your mileage may vary if you prefer the overworld looking like natural structures.

So I dunno if this image has been posted before but essentially this is the image/argument the lefties on Twitter are using and spreading around to justify the trans thing. Anyone with actual knowledge of Japanese weigh in? They're also claiming that the character card in SPM saying "Otokonoko" doesn't matter as it isn't how "she describes herself"

Not agreeing with them just curious to see how well these arguments hold up
Vivian does not call Beldam 'Sis', but rather something closer to 'The Most Esteemed Sister'.
More to the point, Vivia never calls himself a woman, but merely refers to the trio by a feminine collective noun. That is all I can confirm.

On a related subject, here is a Xeet:

So, got banned from somewhere because I disagreed with the idea of making Vivian trans. No insults. No 20 reply bickerfits. Just "I don't like this and here's why" and banned. Whatever, I knew the risk.

I'm so glad that the framerate was lowered in service to an overall worse aesthetic.

I get why people hate the section, but I feel it undercuts the sense helplessness from running through mobs without companions and the relief when you finally get Vivian as a team mate. Kinda feels like removing the ladder section from MSG3 because "it takes too long". Like, yeah... that's the point.

Going to be honest: I really fucking hate how the series has basically been hijacked because of the series localised title. Yeah, Vivian turning into the 41%er isn't the first time Western localisers ruined the series. The series was original called "Mario Story" and TTYD was called "Mario Story 2" and the "paper" elements were basically an aesthetic choice similar to SMB3's being presented like a stage play with platforms hanging from chains and whatnot. But no, now the series is a visual element first and foremost which is why we got bullshit like Sticker Star and Color Splash.

I checked out the patches out of curiosity up to Chapter 2.
I'll try speeding my way through to Chapter 4 this week.
(Patches 4.0 and 5.0)
B: We are...
M: The three...
V: Shadow Sisters!

B Vivian! You nincompoop! What are you babbling about?
It's Shadow SIRENS! I don't see three sisters!
I see two, but you, Vivian, are hardly a sister!!!

(4.0)
V: Yeah... I guess you two are the real sisters... but...
I still fell like one!

B: I suppose you think you're the most beautiful too?
That merits a punishment!

(5.0)
V: Aw, I'm sorry, Sis...
I didn't mean to upset you, I just misspoke...

B: Just a slip of the tongue? I find that hard to believe!
Ooh, you've got some FIERCE punishment coming your way!

(4.0 and 5.0)
V: Aw, gee whiz... I hate being punished...

B: That's for later, though...
First, we have to deal with this Mario and his friends.
Let's do it, my sister... and would-be-sister.
Marilyn! Vivian!
(Patches 4.0 and 5.0)
Goombella: That's Vivian.
She's one of the Shadow Sirens.
According to the book, she's the youngest brother of the trio.
...Wait, what?! She looks like the youngest sister to me!
Otherwise, she doesn't seem all that noteworthy.
Uh... She is kinda cute, I guess...
She might even be cuter than I am...
I guess...
...Uh.. What am I thinking?
(Japanese OG)
A former member of the Shadow Trio.
He may look like a girl, but he's actually a boy.

(English OG, Patches 4.0 and 5.0)
One of the Shadow Sirens and Beldam's youngest sister.
She's so cute, she's able to infatuate anyone.
Also I made it up to Chapter 4 and recruited Vivian. No change in dialog between the patches, OG or the JP text or him mentioning his gender. So the line about him realizing he's "their sister and not brother" is a new line. Other than that and another new line of added text saying "We weren't very happy together" before the tranny line, it's 1:1.
Also I find it funny how the patch was more subtle about Viv's gender than the remake was, because that new line is literally just him saying "I'M TRANS BTW" when there was no hint or mention of it prior to that scene. If the patch were just a little more faithful in the Tattle Log outside of the Battle log, then it'd trump the remake's headcanon bs, imo.

You are talking about a game where you literally fly as a paper aeroplane, roll yourself up like newspaper and roll around on the ground, and make yourself completely flat, like a piece of paper, to get through cracks in the walls and tight spaces.

Nintendo leaning into the paper aesthetic isn't what killed the series. Nintendo being creatively devoid and making the most homogenised sequels possible because the first three didn't sell what they expected is what killed the series.

The irony here is, even if they didn't fuck with Thousand Year Door and its localisation, it still would have been a painful reminder that Nintendo is not the company they used to be. The fact that they went full on pozzed with it just drives the nail in even further.

I know others have said it before me, but they really were so lazy with the Paper aesthetic and knowing that it has been 12 years running that they kept up with this and hardly done much else creative with it is so lame. Like others said and based off of what I've seen, it's a mix of construction paper, glossy paper, cardboard, and that's it. They really seemed to ditch the pop-up book theme of the whole game in place of "let's just throw paper on everything because it's PAPER Mario!"
Just as an example of what they could've done: Make the Thousand Year Door area made of Papyrus because they both fit the theming of "ancient/aged material"

Or have some sewer areas look like soggy/molded out paper you'd find in some books

I've said it before, but I think this overall paper aesthetic would've worked better had they given the remaster treatment to Paper Mario N64 instead since that's the one that's arguably in most need of a new coat of paint. TTYD on the GameCube still holds up incredibly well after all these years, and I don't think this paperization treatment towards it is really in its favor.

I would have loved to have had a remaster of this game, but would hate if they went the route of cardboard and glossy paper. A lot of the charm is from the almost water color style look of the backgrounds and the soft colors. I don't have faith they could do an improved version of that style

"haha look at these easily triggered trannies"

"no you don't understand I canNOT play this game until someone edits these two lines of dialogue that mention a tranny REEEEEEE"
You seem to have a hard time differentiating people who take a fit when you say a mean word to taking a stance against shit writing and pandering by refusing to partake in it.

You are talking about a game where you literally fly as a paper aeroplane, roll yourself up like newspaper and roll around on the ground, and make yourself completely flat, like a piece of paper, to get through cracks in the walls and tight spaces.
Which was painted as a horrible curse, not something that people could just do normally "because paper!!!", For us, the viewer, it doesn't seem like anything, but the implications are supposed to be a little more ugly beyond the medium the game is presented through. It's also never really brought up by any character in the game outside of the ones providing the abilities.
