Well that happened. For what its worth this was the result I expected but did have some hope wouldn't occur. As I said rather explicitly, I was theory crafting what the route to mistrial would look like. The real issue is that what you see as nothing is actually instability entering the system. Once a crack is formed its hard to remove and those cracks overtime can easily lead to the whole thing collapsing. The final crack can be today or decades from now, but know that when that moment does happen, it starts just like this.

As people have pointed out, these cracks have been forming for 160 years. So once again, what makes this event in particular any different? I’m not saying what happened today is insignificant, I’m saying people are going to shit themselves and do nothing. Have you ever heard of "calm before the storm?" This verdict is just adding resentment against an unpopular administration. The mask is off that the establishment is against Donald Trump, and by extension, any populist movement that dares to undermine centuries worth of power. They'll do whatever it takes to sabotage Trump from winning 2024, even if it means destroying half the country. The November elections could be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Everybody will feel the wrath of each political faction imploding upon itself through external factors adding fuel to that fire.

Everything would've been fine if Trump had just won 2020. He would get his eight years, his work would be the deciding judge of his presidency, the Democrats could've regrouped and find a better candidate for the moderate. Instead, they decided to play the short term (trends, voting blocs, pandemic, fear mongering) without considering the long term consequences of their actions.
