Most of the big homes in Spicer seem to be large vacation homes. I didn’t get the idea people lived in many of them year round. I could be wrong but it seemed like more of a seasonal place for some of the big bucks houses. The house you buy to own acreage to “get away” and don’t want the social stuff places like the upper peninsula in MI offer for summer homes.

Some are (though God there are a million nicer places to get a summer place within MN, and not all of the ones in Spicer I saw were even on the water, so odd for a summer place - usually people want and get water and/or woods, especially for a million, but who knows. And there's no real social scene anywhere, as far as I have ever heard). I still think they're just there a) for being near Kayla's family, and b) for lack of imagination and dedication to making a living. For 20-30 minutes more of a drive to her family, he could have had an easy commute to St. Cloud and actually learned how to be a functional alcoholic lawyer. Or, as I said, moving an hour from Spicer would have put him in commute range of Minneapolis...or less to commute to many good law firms and some huge companies (not that he'd have been hired at any of those places, bet) and tons of medium- and smaller-sized ones; going another 20 would have put him in commuting range of Minneapolis proper. I get wanting to be close to family, but it doesn't really seem as though the kids were getting much benefit from it, ultimately, and he clearly didn't have it in him to build a practice in a small town.

I think you're right he might have thought he'd be a big fish in a small pond; unfortunately, he was a minnow even in a tiny town. Because he has no work ethic and an outsized ego.

He didn't play, he followed the lore (you can see a lot of expensive limited edition novels behind him in a good chunk of his streams) and rarely painted miniatures (you also can see racks with what seem to be either army painter or vallejo acrylics behind him in some livestreams).

He certainly knew the setting, as he's made two streams about 40k, one with daddy gym talking about lore and shooting the shit, a second one with Sargon of Applebees painting minis.

My educated guess is that his "being into the setting" boiled down to luetin09 videos (since I know he's reading this, Nicky just watch Majorkill he's definitely more up your speed by combining cooming and 40k), and if you want to be super generous he also did audiobooks, his minis seemed to go mostly unpainted because he is just SO BUSY.

My take on the limited edition novels is that it was very likely the same retarded wastrel behaviour that had him buying a $110k rustang, Nicky had to buy $250 books from e-bay scalpers to up his nerd cred, I don't think a single white dwarf magazine ever graced his hands.

As for Nick engaging in any sort of tabletop at all, you have his D&D streams where he more or less behaves like the biggest 'that guy' and tries to impress the nerds with his stand up routines.
