A friend of mine, a lawyer, who passed away a couple of years ago from cirrhosis had went from plump to deathly thin within the span of a year. As for me, a newcomer, I think accountability and rehab are essential. I also choose option #1 in your post. I am a softie and believe strongly in redemption. Nick was uniquely charismatic, engaging, sometimes intelligent, and entertaining. He is also a selfish junkie and probably a malignant narcissist. Many things can be true, and all that.

We want him to act like a fucking normal person.
