I went through the public schooling system and I cannot name a single teacher that I had. As far as I'm concerned, they get paid too much. Everything I've learned I self-taught.

I have attended public schools in both the big city, and in a small rural town. I couldn't remember, nor care to remember a single teacher from the former, but nearly of all my teachers from the latter I still can recall and will occasionally catch up with to this day. Admittedly the education wasn't much better, and a little backwater public school has its issues for sure, but I would never go back to an inner city school if I was given the chance at a younger age.

I also had a teacher who built her own guns, and I remember spending a whole class period just discussing politics and election results with her. Ah, good times

I can only remember two teacher's I've bad and that's only because they actually wanted to help me. Neither of which came from the Catholic school system I was in but the Public school system. I don't care if they're attempting to teach 40 kids, they couldn't even teach 20 kids in a classroom before. They're taught to tell children to copy down words off a chalkboard. There's a whole portion of the Infancy Gospel of Thomas (the apocryphal gospel about Jesus as a kid) where Jesus has a shitty school teacher. Horace wrote about school being shitty, especially if you weren't one of the rich kids from an elite family.

Education is far more about the family's cultural values than any individual teacher. That's why Baltimore has extremely high rates of funding per pupil yet turns out illiterate gangbanging students. You can have the best teachers and the most money and the nicest school facilities, but a pack of feral kids from broken homes that value gangbanging and basketball more than learning won't get anything out of it.

I've found teachers are better at private schools, though they have the added risk of losing funding if they're shit. If we did the same for public schools we could see a better change. Same can be said about free public healthcare here. Taxes just go towards nurses telling you you should die now. You can get that online for free, why are my taxes paying for it? You also get faster service at a private hospital. If it wasn't for the one I went to I'd have a higher risk of dying before I hit 50. No long multi-year waits. All of this socialist crap just doesn't work the way people think it does.
