The tragic irony about China and Taiwan is that while many younger citizens have understandably distanced themselves from the "Chinese" label because of the CCP's aggression and the appalling reputation of the country and its citizens, Taiwan has done a far better job of preserving traditional Chinese culture involving religion, etiquette, and literature than Mainland China ever has. Taiwan is far more culturally Chinese than Mainland China will ever be even though it was never historically a part of China. The CCP didn't just destroy so much of Chinese culture, they destroyed the morale of the Chinese people that traditional Chinese culture encouraged as well.I used to work for a company that occasionally shipped to Chinese retail customers. They were uniformly awful to deal with, rude, ignorant and would never be straight with you even when we were trying to help.
Then we had our first dealing with a Taiwanese company, when we fucked up massively on an order, they went out of their way to help us. Polite, personable, one woman I was talking to took the time to google the town we were based in so she could bring it up in conversation. They were the most ethical, professional and just downright nicest customers I ever encountered.
The recent influx of people from Hong Kong to the UK has been something similar, incredibly hard workers, with a very strong family connection. Although they tend to be a bit more stand offish with locals and prefer to keep themselves to themselves.
