How good are SoK and The Terror? I recently read Hyperion 1 and 2, and while I really liked the first one, I thought the second was only ok.

Hyperion is among my favorite books, and I really enjoyed The Terror. Weirdly, it's a long book with lot of nautical terms and bullshit that I was never into, but I skipped a night's sleep to finish it after starting it before intending to go to sleep.

Fat Tax 1: of all the books an illiterate fat man could re-read, Dune would not be my first choice. It might be a classic, but personally, I'd put it below The Fall of Hyperion.

The Terror is a great read, though I should admit that I came into it as a history geek with a pre-existing interest in the Franklin expedition and polar exploration. The TV adaptation is also a banger that incorporates some of the updated information we've gotten on the expedition and some of its crew since then. Definitely check them both out.

I only think Pat reread Dune because of the Villeneuve movies. He'd never have touched it again otherwise. Way too dense and intricate for a man who thinks naming a character Firstname Lastname is a solid joke.

I loved them both. Song of Kali was more of a low-level terror, but it sticks with you all the way through. The Terror is more action-oriented and reads more like a traditional horror novel. Very different books, but all of Simmons' books are sui generis. He's talented in every genre he tries.

I'd be entertained to see his misreading of the Hyperion Cantos, or even some of Simmons' horror stuff like Song of Kali and The Terror.
