Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Unfortunately, no I don’t have that one archived. Doesn’t look like it would be too hard to backup, only about 470 videos.

My only idea of sharing everything I have ATM is a torrent, if anyone is up for that.
I have about 8TB of YouTube on my PC (lots of older channels), I’ll have to get a list.
I am poorfag so only 2tb free for YT stuff. I will buy more probably for this emergency situation.

There's no reason it can't be made profitable without sodomizing viewers' eyeballs with all of these annoying fucking ads interrupting content, the bullshit algorithms, and PC police cracking down on someone for no damned good reason.
You sure about that?

Data isn't publicly available as far as I can tell on Youtube's expenses, but they have $30B in revenue and are still desperate to make more money, and that's with a monopoly.
Realistically any alternative would probably just need to charge people outright to upload or possibly to download videos, that's how Youtube should have been from the start.

Also I don't really buy Odysee being too right wing for normal people to possibly use it. Realistically people are just lazy and complacent. Most genuinely don't mind what Youtube is doing enough to even mildly inconvenience themselves to stop it.

Who wants to bet that this is the beginning of the end of you-tube? This is the first domino that will cause people to give up on it.
people have been saying that for years. most people already watch youtube on their phones, smart TVs, games consoles, etc... ergo they already watch every ad youtube serves at them. normies are so conditioned and desensitised to ads by years or even decades of television they actually think you're weird if you go out of your way to avoid them.

This drives me mad far more than the ads if I'm being honest. You can usually work around ads, there's only so much you can do to work around a draconian censorship algorithm that damn near expects you to fellate trannies and niggers with every breath. I have a ton of burners, so I've done a lot of testing too. It's baffling how many comments actually end up in the void or thrown exclusively to the "new" section and kept hidden there. "You're stinky and a dumb dumb" may pass, but "You smell like garbage and you're a dumbass" is getting thrown to the void just to give a minor example of how ridiculous it is. There's been plenty of times I've just outright given up on commenting because I've reworded it 2-3 times and it's still getting sent to the shadow realm.
I admit it makes me really MATI.

I dont care if i post something and people call me a faggot and tell me to kms but hiding comments like this drives me off the wall.

Its not just about my own comments either When a comment section says "10 replies" but after expanding it there are only 2 because the rest were shadowbanned it makes me want to fedpost.

Man humanity REALLY fucked up when they allowed the largest archive of media to operate like some corporate conglomerate, and not more like Wikipedia. Fuck the original creators for not having that same vision, i guess. Sucks, man...

I just feel like they are on a crusade towards shuttering it's doors. I can count my blood boiling with the minutes of ads they try throwing at me, until I say fuck it and switch to ad block browser from TV to PC.

Brave still blocks ads, how long until it doesnt?
I’m sure you know by now, but Brave doesn’t block ads anymore…IF you’re signed in.
My work around has been to sign in to see new videos from my subs, but copying the link into a incognito window to watch it.
Brave on mobile still blocks ads though, which makes me think that this is only being tested on the desktop side,

I haven't gotten ads on brave while logged into YouTube for years now

Gentlemen.

It's 2024 and we are experiencing late stage YouTube. The economical situation of the United States and the world at large is forcing the largest companies to make sudden and drastic decisions to try and keep their income higher than their operating expenses, whereas in the past it seemed even the largest companies were happy to operate at a loss or with no profit for years. YouTube in particular had been terminally unprofitable for years, and it seems that pajeet CEOs are calling it: make some fucking money.

YouTube is experimenting with a Final Solution to the Adblocker problem, similar to Twitch, where they inject ads directly into the bitstreams that make up a video, so that an ad is technologically indistinguishable from the content you've requested.

I believe, therefore, that I should remind people that the only thing they truly have is whatever they personally own. In this context, I am referring to downloading copies of videos. I wrote a guide to this here:

For many of you, YouTube will be a place where you've saved videos for over a decade. It's time to save what you want off the platform before they start doing more dumb shit. Whatever you want to keep forever on YouTube should be downloaded as soon as possible.

Are there any lolcow channels I should be archiving?
Thanks boss. I'll get on archiving my shit.

One of the more fascinating tricks I've seen is that Youtube will actually do fake Likes on your comment and send you notifs about it, even if your comment has been sent to invisibility hell and no real human could have seen it.

As for the linked yt-DLP issues - it looks like Google is blocking downloads and banning accounts for people who get a LOT of videos, so those who do occasional archiving should be fine. Not sure whether the ad injection has a workaround though
Youtube actually shadow-bans likes for "suspicious activity" which is more likely what you're seeing. Trust me I know from experience. tested it by having friends like a youtube video and then the likes fucking vanished while still saying they're there on the notification chart and activity but everywhere else? it's like they weren't ever there. It's kind of wild how botted likes still get through in a system as oppressive as that.

If only jewtube stopped pandering to the trannies and faggots they wouldn’t be so desperate
trannies and faggots make up the entire Alphabet workforce that isn't pajeets so when you insult trannies you are insulting a google employee. Their will never let up because their corporate culture and the culture around computer related careers is too ingrained with faggotry.

Here's what I have archived, most are complete archives but some are selective (IE if the channel went to absolute shit you can guess I stopped downloading before then). Quite a few of these I had to go re-upload and Wayback Machine hunting.

I'll find somewhere to upload if anyone is interested.

Does it download playlists?
yes. run this command:

yt-dlp --no-flat-playlist -f 18 [URL of youtube playlist page]

just tested it and got a playlist of 12 videos.

if you want to find out the formats available, replace "-f 18" with "-F" and it will show the list of format codes for each video. 18 is the mp4 file with both video and audio, also pretty low filesize too.
