I get what you're saying. If she were my mother, then I would feel differently, and would take the responsibility of trying to find a path of recovery, as the love for your family is unconditional,I hear you.
I’d also add that if you want a child to be happy, the first step to achieving that is ensuring his mother is happy. It’s the nature of kids to assume any disquiet in parents is their fault, and that is especially true when it comes to their mother.
I hope she finds her redemption arc and a place of security, if only for the sake of those five kids, who’ve already been through far too much in their young lives.
Kayla probably feels like she’s too old to start over, but the fact is she is still young enough to move past her disastrous starter marriage and settle down with some non-degenerate. A single mom of five doesn’t have wide appeal outside the pedophile market, but she only has to find one guy willing to take them all on (and she'll no doubt get healthy child support). It happens every day.
The funniest outcome would be if she found the true love of her life but didn’t marry him until the youngest turns 18, so as not to lose her alimony payments. Get fucked, Nick.
But I'm very grateful this is one of those times where I don't have to take that on myself. So, as for what to do with her. Well, other people have already said perfectly fine things.
I hope her children want to try and help her get better, because I don't blame anyone for wanting to simply tell her to get fucked.
