Something I don't see brought up at all with regards to the Dear John stream that I noticed when I first listened to it during MATI was that Nick mentioned at one point that John "never asked" if any of the claims were true. His exact words upon rewatching are, "You know what he never asked me? 'Hey man, are these things true?'" It's weird for him to point it out, weird enough to suspect that that's part of what actually set him off.

In other words, Nick WANTED to try to have a "private conversation" with John but couldn't.

This is Nick's MO. As @Captain Manning has laid out, this has happened with multiple people (Kalea, PerceptionCheck [DMs in OP], Manning, @elb, and others) Nick's appeal at the start of his descent into madness was 'DM me! This is a personal conversation I'd rather not have in public. I can be honest there!' That should have been a massive red flag. His life was 'funny and WEIRD'.

Once he started getting critiques, he lamented that people didn't just 'DM and ask' him if something was true or not.

After that, he began pre-emptively DMing people 'Hey! I just want to let you know [insert rumour] is not true. You don't have to say anything. I just want to let you know!', trying to get a head of it.

This morphed into the infamous 'shower calls' that Null (and others) recieved. In these he would play up the friend angle and hint vaguely at what he wanted people to do without saying it, then be frustrated when they did not do it. We learned more about his rhetorical tactics from other who said that Nick would constantly try to 'restart the conversation' by saying that he did not understand something--forcing a long and tedious diversion into definition of meanings and feelings. He would also employ the tactic of 'just saying [he] disagrees' and when all else fails, he would say that a REAL fried would come to him before they make any judgements and BELIEVE him.

Nick is a manipulative weasel, and he spergs out if he is not in control of the definitions or flow of conversation or opinion.

And I'm a proud scathing critic of Rekieta and a predictor of his now-evident problems for as long as I've heard of him, so do not take that comment of mine as suggesting I think any of it is nbd. My point was that there are degrees of misuse, abuse, and addiction. And I don't care where he is on that spectrum, he's still a yuck and a hack and a bad father.

Rekieta might consciously think of himself as a rebel, a sovereign citizen, or whatever the fuck, but all of his actions leading up to and following his arrest show a man subconsciously engaged in acts of self-sabotage.

A common thing among drunks and addicts is the belief--whether consciously acknowledged or not--they are undeserving of love and happiness. A conscience can be deeply buried under months or years of alcohol and/or chemical dependency but it's still there, meaning at some deep-down level, all rationalizations are stripped away, and he knows he let his children down, he knows he broke his marriage, he knows he wrecked his career. Rekieta can't admit this, of course--especially not to himself--but the knowledge is there, and it must find expression; hence the reckless, obnoxious behaviors such as speeding tickets to the point of license suspension, self-incriminating livestreams full of delusional bullshit, and so on.

Rekieta wants to be punished. I think the Court should oblige him.

I think it is manifestly clear that Nick Rekieta's psyche is disordered and unhealthy, and that as yet he has zero interest in doing better. If he even has the capability (I don't think he does).

I'd make a wild guess if he gets suspended, which seems a near certainty, that he'd have to complete a course of rehab, either from a bar-approved provider or one provided by the bar itself (yes lawyers are such degenerates that bar associations sometimes have in-house rehabs just for lawyers). Then, depending on how that turns out, maybe a probationary term where he can only practice under the supervision of another lawyer, sometimes a lawyer who acts as something like an AA sponsor who has been there himself, before getting his full license back.
