I’m sure that was what was meant but the coop people realized if the kids weren’t attending their classes the kids were getting zero schooling at home. I’d guess “staring at iPads” was the sun total of the kids education for the past six months, if not much longer. They are homeschooled except for the oldest. The 'not attending school' might mean that they stopped going to their homseschool coop or that they stopped attending their extracurriculars regularly.
I get the idea that the older kid, after Nick and Kayla were too coked up to bother participating in coop or even before, begged to go to a real school just to gtfo that house.
Long ago I had hoped that Nick and Kayla were in the small minority that were providing a homeschool education that was better than public school. Now I think they were in a typical “homeschool” demographic that is lazy parents that can’t keep schedules and don’t want their kids around mandatory reporters. (Almost as bad as the third demo, religious fanatics who only allow kids to study the Bible (or Torah if Jewish) for their “education.”
