I swear some of you guys taking this personally.

It's this.

RLM just made a video of political sperging for 90 minutes. They deserve ALL of the criticism.

"Burnout." Okay? Then let's agree their content sucks now. Why do they get a pass when every other content creator doesn't? Burnout isn't an excuse for making subpar content.

Sure you can call it subpar. It's very middle of the road political sperging.

I legitimately believe there needs to be a genocide of all lefty Gen X-ers

stop saying diversity and gay shit is what makes the show bad goy!! diversity is good and you should accept it
>not a single black person has ever been featured in one of their videos
we are soooo not like those other retarded youtubers who complain about/praise woke stuff in media, we are le heckin epic enlightened centrists!!
>"Daisy Ridley is charismatic as hell!"
>"There's not such thing as a mary sue..and even if there was it's not what you think!!"
>"Let's put a Black woman in The Rocketeer sequel that would be heckin cool!!"
If you don't like it just stop watching it goy! no one is forcing you to consume the media that you grew up to like!! So what if we...I mean Disney subverted it with woke garbage, just move on to something else loser
>proceed to not only watch things they hate and are "done with forever", they keep talking endlessly about it.

Wil Wheaton represents the worst of X imo. Millennials were even worse overall, with the Channel Awesome types.

A leftist Gen X is like a leftist secular Jews in many ways, worst of the worst. I think the majority of X'ers are more sane than Millennials so far, but at the extremes you get Wheaton type and the origins of pure soy.

It's amazing how in this whole Star Wars video the best parts are about Wheaton being a faggot. Strange.

Middle of the road would be "The political discourse sucks, everybody sucks, so let's move on." This was pretentious pontificating for an hour straight, and they made themselves look like assholes (and not the funny and hilarious kind of assholes, mind you).

That's not the content I signed up for. No sir, I don't like it.

If RLM wants to alienate their audience like this, then more power to them. I'm not going to continue watching if that's the case though.

Everybody talks about what a fat and insufferable soyjack Josh is. This video is Mike acting exactly like Josh, and there's clearly some people in total denial here.

Wow, holy shit that was bad.

I don't actually care about the retarded centrist nothingness in the video, if they took a side they would be as Jay called "grifting for views" (from the Ghostbusters: Afterlife video) which makes no sense, but whatever. I am used to them doing this, they've always been super smug and they never seem to take a stand on anything anymore. But if your take is nothing because you are either scared of offending people or of empowering the "wrong people", then I would actually rather them not say shit about it, tbh.

Focus on how bad the story and characters are, which they claim in the video is the only thing that matters. Cool, then talk about that? Lampoon the shitty show and make Rich laugh, that's all you need to do. Why make me sit through endless unfunny clips from culture war YouTubers & snapshots of dumb clickbait articles that I try to avoid? Why the fuck is this so interesting to Mike? It literally happens with every new show these days. We're almost 10 years removed from Ghostbusters 2016 which was the same shit as they note in the video, the entire argument is so tiring at this point. There is nothing new to say.

All of this would only be meh if the video was at least watchable, however the video is just awful. I can't tell you what actually happens in the show because they got to the plot so late and by that point I was already checked out. Just awful editing in this video, they keep repeating the same points over and over again. I shut it off and came back to it later but on speed 4 using an extension. I rarely do this with RLM videos, they usually have very good editing.

I really hope this is not a new trend for their videos. It is one of my favorite channels.

Update: Mike is into it for the gay culture war. Buckle up.
I appreciate the attempt by the RLM guys to be reasonable, grounded people who don't get swept away by culture war bullshit, especially YouTube culture war bullshit. That's one of the reasons I love them.

But this video could be titled Reasonable Centrism at Any Cost. "Hey YouTube, have you ever noticed how the left and right are just a bad as one another?!"

Mike and Jay and Rich are not stupid. I'm sure they've noticed this leftist cult horseshit is being forced into LITERALLY EVERYTHING. (Need we discuss the progressive cancer that took over the online knitting community?) I'm sure they understand that the cult is not one reasonable side of a cultural divide where everyone has great points. These people don't have any great points. If they ever express a good point, they're skinwalking an idea someone outside the cult came up with in order to confuse and manipulate other people outside of the cult. Literally all they care about is spreading the cancer and preening YAAAASSS QWEEN. They are not good people who simply believe different things. They're totalitarian narcissists. I'm certain the RLM guys know that...

Or maybe it's not possible to avoid inhabiting a bubble of sorts when you're as successful a channel as RLM is. I like that the guys refuse to get involved in terrible, tired Fandom Menace crap, and I think they make a real effort to stay humble and connected to their work. But that doesn't mean they see the same world the rest of us do. Maybe that's inevitable with success.

Hard disagree on this.

They took NO high road in this video. And they're not staying out of the "tired Fandom Menace crap" because they literally used clips of some of them in really bad faith, especially Star Wars Theory (who became an involuntary part of the Fandom Menace because he dared to not like something that Disney shat out, finally).

If anything, they invited themselves INTO the said-crap by posting this insanely pretentious and hypocritical video.

Mike and Jay and Rich are not stupid.
That doesn't make them immune to propaganda.

It can't be said enough that the three of them are Late Gen-X/Early Millennials who grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. And I think outside of Mikes short stint in Arizona, they never left. (and I don't even know why I mentioned that, Mike was definitely out of college by that point)

There's a certain cultural upbringing that goes with this area that would be really hard to shake.

I went 15 minutes into the video and gave up. It's literally this meme:

I haven't watched the Plinkett Reviews in years so forgive if I'm wrong, but aren't they riddled with similar complaints like this? Like the one that sticks out in my mind is the contradiction of a '1000 generations' vs '1000 years' of protection of from the jedi. Seems pretty gay to suddenly be like, "who cares nerds, there are people starving in Africa." Like if when Mike was writing the script for the Plinkett review and wanted to quickly double check online only for the info to have been stealth edited by online shills, I feel like he'd be rightfully pissed off. The guy they cut to literally had the Wookiepedia people crying about getting death threats from him because he simply pointed out on stream that they were changing dates on their online wiki. Their "it's ok when we do it" attitude can really get on my nerves sometimes.
They have what I call cocktail party politics they don't wanna upset anyone because then they're not going to invite them to the cocktail parties.
I've never liked red letter media the reviews have always been mediocre at best and what are you expecting from a bunch of fat hypocritical Gen. X's I don't know why Gen. X gets off the generational hate train they see the boomers and said let's do meth and coke.

Star Wars died some time ago so why waste energy?
Because next they’ll come for stuff the people being apathetic now care about and the people that suddenly care will be surprised no one is sticking up with them.

Apathy is quite literally the plan so that the idealigues can ruin everything. As the idealigurs have made clear for decades.

It’s no so much ‘oh we can save SW’ so much as it is ‘this might give people pause on trying it on other stuff’

If Mike at al truly did not care they would not be commenting on it.

Mike makes it no secret that he is absolutely out of the loop on current pop culture as a whole and is proud of how far he can bury his head in the sand. This makes him pretty much the least qualified person to talk about anything currently coming out because he just ignores any kind of context he can, whereas the old Plinkett reviews were thoroughly backed with context.

Their hyperbole about starving kids in Africa... Jesus fucking Christ, are you really going to trot out that tired old argument to make a point about people having priorities? From the people that made several detailed, multiple-hour reviews of the prequel trilogy and more? Get better material, the backhanded "people who watch our videos suck" shit is overplayed. Media and media criticism is something most people do in their spare time as a means of blowing off steam. You're the guys that made it your fucking job.
