Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Interesting. When I asked on reddit (I know) everyone shouted that Orthros was shit for XP.

Obligatory redditors are stupid, but an xpac where DPS queues are like 40+ minutes long is exactly when Deep Dungeons become a viable option for XP.

The only real hurdle is that you'll have needed to have done up to Floor 30 prior, because the general leveling strat is just spamming 21-30 over and over. From a time sink POV, it's not necessarily effective.

But the reason why it's parroted by mentors/redditors is because Palace used to be good XP until they adjusted it, and that's all anyone remembers now.

But yeah, it's a good alternative when DPS queues are super long, like they are now.

the Balance spergs are so buttmad about the BLM changes that one of the BLM leaders wrote a 211 page PDF sucking themselves off about how Endwalker black mage is the greatest accomplishment in MMO design in history

no I'm not exaggerating

The discovery of the nonstandard playstyle was a revolutionary moment for Black Mage. The basic rotation is simple, but beneath lies a vast arsenal of options. These options provided unprecedented flexibility, moving away from the monotonous fixed rotations of most FFXIV jobs. Each player could develop a unique understanding of the job, greatly enhancing its depth. A perfected BLM rotation, with its harmony of ticks, procs, and mechanics, embodies a graceful and artistic expression appreciated only by those who truly understand it.

Despite its complexity, mastering the inherent difficulty remains tied to the basic rotation. Even with just the standard rotation, Black Mages can handle most high-end raid mechanics elegantly. It's no exaggeration to call the Black Mage of 6.0 a perfect job.

Dawntrail Black Mage changes remain deeply controversial. Invested players express frustration at the continued simplification and loss of intricacies, while others cheer for the disappearance of what they perceive as intimidating. The path forward in Dawntrail is uncertain, and in a way, that makes this book more precious. However, one thing is certain: players drive the innovation of this job's depth and complexity. The Endwalker Black Mage, as conceived by Square Enix, was a good job; in the hands of players, it transformed into a masterpiece, worthy of a legacy in FFXIV's history.

In memory of my favourite job that defined my Endwalker era—Black Mage

it is a collection of artifacts like advanced job guides and encounter-specific raid guides that must be preserved against the eroding sands of history, so those who come after us know that once... you could spam Paradox and Despair and still get a 90th percentile parse:

The Paradox Rotation, more accurately No F4 Rotation, was a meme rotation created early in Endwalker where B3 Paradox Transpose Paradox Despair is looped indefinitely. One B4 is cast in the opener, and as neither Despair nor Paradox consume Umbral Hearts, conditions for obtaining Paradox were continuously met. The time between B3 and Transpose guaranteed a MP tick at moderate spell speeds. F3Ps should be used before Despair, and Thunders and Xeno are used normally.

The meme rotation was created and popularized by the Japanese Black Mage Yakkuru Imu after he obtained a 90+ percentile parse with this rotation. It was often claimed to offer higher mobility and "comparable" damage to the standard rotation, but in reality, the trade-offs were not worth it. Nonetheless, this rotation showcases the ingenuity of players and the creativity enabled by this iteration of Black Mage.

and who can forget one of the most thrilling aspects of this dynamic and intuitive class - using an incomprehensible simming tool to tell you what spells to use in various edge cases:

Black Mage in the Shell is a Black Mage rotation simulator and planner created by Eshiya (Galahad Donnadieu on Exodus) and miyehn (Ellyn Waterford on Sargatanas). This tool enables Black Mage players to fully plan their sequences in relation to
phases, mechanics, and MP ticks. The creation of Black Mage in the Shell has been instrumental, significantly reducing the workload for dedicated Black Mage players and greatly enhancing their ability to realize the job’s potential.

remember in 300 when Leonidas has to go see the degenerate, deformed priests to receive instructions from the Oracle, and the narrator talks about how they're repulsive freaks that everyone is forced to respect because of their entrenchment in The Culture. I feel that way every time I visit the Balance Discord

Can't get an answer anywhere and I'm out of ideas.

Pretty much when I press play on the launcher, it opens a window then closes it and doesn't kick an error message back. I'd figure this was a GPU issue, but my computer should be able to handle it per their requirement spreadsheet. My drivers are updated, I'm on DX12, and I'm out of ideas; anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Picto Crendendum palette looks like make-up. HEY LADIES

edit: The level 90 Pictomancer class quest plot is 100% more compelling than early DT MSQ.

Plus a good chunk of it makes no sense -- WL is a sheltered bozo who is incredibly ignorant of the world around her....but also managed to sail halfway across the world.
Pretty sure it was Erenville who returned to Tural on Sharlean business and then when he went back to Eorzea, WL tagged along. Which fits their dynamic of her being the idiot and he the dude who gets shit done quietly in the background to enable said idiot.

Give the third party launcher a shot (https://goatcorp.github.io/), sometimes the SE one is just retarded for no reason.

Dunno. Maybe it's the voice acting difference (I'm on Japanese), but Wuk Lamat is a fun character for me. Erenville though... he's the real lame-o. I get that there needs to be someone who can actually disagree with Wuk Lamat knowledgeably, but he's such a killjoy coupled with that.

Not even that worked; gave me a "this might be temporary" message, then suggested I reset my computer or make sure my firewall isn't being dumb.

This is damn near as bad as the... whatever expansion came after Warlords of Draenor, where a Blizz Mod told me to just keep trying or wait/go do something else.

You tried either compability modes on the .exe (not launcher, the actual game client .exe) or forcing dx11 via command line?

2nd dungeon is better than the 1st, though still not especially exciting. The boss/combat music in general isn't my favourite.

Only just finished the zone with the Hanu but holy shit the scions are like fucking robots. No banter or interesting commentary at all. No sarcastic remarks. Jfc even Stormblood did this shit better.

Don't get me started on that 2 headed faggot with Disney villian levels of depth.

Also love being an AST with more button bloat. Just give sects back if you're going to have 2 different versions of draw that have the same themes.

I was kinda disappointed that the story ended up tacking on extra Scions beyond the main group traveling with the WOL. Felt like a good chance to split them up, introduce new main characters, make it more significant when everyone is back together. I'm approaching what I'm assuming is the first trial and am just waiting for the game to suddenly find a way to insert Y'shtola and Graha somehow so I don't forget about them.

Endwalker might have hardened me against shit writing and/or lowered my expectations into the dirt, but I honestly have no idea why people would hate Wuk Lamat this much. She's your typical bright eyed, naive, let's-go-get-em attitude shounen protagonist and works fine as that. Since we're just kicking off a new story it's not like this kind of character would feel out of place in a "world is about to end" scenario. She's willing to step out of her comfort zone (ride the alpaca), respects the traditions of her would-be people (learns the art of the deal) and is not bitchy enough to downplay the accomplishment of her bros. And she's obviously way over her head, otherwise she wouldn't have sought out the help of the WoL. It's not earth shattering stuff, but it's not bad. WoL being a glorified side NPC has never felt worse though, but I only got 2 of the 7 mcguffins so far so I am waiting for things to ramp up.

MSQ Thoughts So Far (right before first dungeon):

1) Bringing the scions back continues to be a mistake. These characters all have had more or less complete character arcs. There's nothing really left to do with any of them. Krile and Erenville should have both been the focus with other scions maybe making occasional appearances but the twins especially needed an expansion on the backburner. It feels like they have nothing to do.

2) No matter what DT did, it was always going to be divisive. FFXIV essentially has two camps for MSQ enjoyment - people who want to do new, different shit every xpac and people who want more Shadowbringers bishie ancient wank. What I've experienced so far isn't really any worse than 4.0 Stormblood.

3) I feel like the main writer guy wants to fuck Wuk Lamat. Japan has fallen.

I know I've been kinda banging the drum pretty hard on WL, but I think within the context of the genre she's in, she's okay.

I think that's what it is for me, in that she's very anime/JRPG which is, outside of like the Hildibrand series or smaller gags here and there, not something XIV goes to the well a lot on, and especially not for a deuteragonist. It's tonally off for the game.

Light-hearted is fine, and I was looking forward to a more grounded, back to basics expansion, and I'm pretty sure I predicted earlier in this thread that she was going to be full of bravado but actually insecure/a coward/whatever underneath the bluster.

The issue more for me is that there's no real reason as to why she should be seriously given a chance at anything or be in the running to rule an entire fucking continent. Like, if the story was that she was chosen to be successor but she needs to prove herself, it makes more sense, but when I say that we're tard-wrangling her, it's things like she knows very little of the land she supposedly cares a lot about to the point that it borders on unbelievable. I get it if was like a Marie Antoinette thing where she's out of touch with the common folk, or if she has cultural blind spots or something, but some of the stuff just strains credulity and just makes me think she's outright stupid rather than plucky and determined.

Also, I'm getting the sense that WL is going to be a Zidane stand-in. Attitudes and behaviors are very similar and she's starting to talk about how she doesn't have a lot of memories growing up before she was adopted. Erenville also gives off these vibes and I'm wondering if that's where the story is going with her and/or him in particular.

Yeah, the things you mentioned are somewhat the things that grate on me, not because they're parts of her character development, but because of how they're executed. Maybe I'm being too hard on the character and it's more the fact that it seemed like the intro MSQ stuff seemed to take WAY longer than in prior xpacs that's aggravating me.

E: I will also say that I think the VA has gotten better with WL as well. Not sure if it's because my ears are just getting burnt out on her or if the direction earlier in the expac was to try and have a brash, but conflicted, VA that, IMO, is beyond the talent's capabilities.

Yeah I don't like the overly anime-y stuff in general either when it comes to anything remotely serious, but the execution here works for me so far, mostly because it has nothing pre-established to ruin.

In a cutscene they sort of address this how she actually just wants to help people in general and the throne itself might not be important for her after all, this might actually be a setup how her story ends if the earlier mentioned leaks are true.

Edit: She also calls out her own lack of knowledge of the people and acknowledges that it's a bad thing in the same cutscene, I forgot to add that.

I think people just 1) love to bitch and 2) got pissy about the troon VA thing. I'm playing with English voices and while his voice was a little jarring at first, I've long since gotten used to it and it's not getting in the way of the story.

personally I keep laughing about how the entire base premise of Tural is that it was filled with radically different people and cultures, and they were all constantly at war due to their differences, until the ultimate Culture Respecter - Gulool Ja Ja - came along, and travelled the land respecting everyone's culture so hard, he created a unified society overnight. now Tural generally and Tuliyollal especially are a diverse paradise because everyone's culture is so respected (they even carved pillars dedicated to each time the head guy respected each individual culture). but now that the Enlightened Culture Respecter is aging and must name a successor, he sends his prospective claimants on an epic journey of culture respecting. the "equal" claimants include the nerd who wants to colonize everyone's culture with foreign technology; the dickhead who is NOT a Culture Respecter - he is in fact a white Mamool Ja supremacist - who just wants to condemn every other culture to a permanent underclass; and our plucky underdog hero, an aw-shucks humble little retard who's figuring it out as she goes along, on her ultimate quest to learn to respect every culture as hard (maybe harder?!) than her lizard dad. I love this stupid game and I'm not trying to take a shit on it, but it's really funny how many times the characters unironically gush about "diversity" and "culture" and reduce the concept of learning history to just touring everyone's culture just long enough to respect it really hard until everyone is massively impressed by what a based Culture Respecter the cat lady is. it's like the fever dream of a New York Times columnist. if this was a Sweet Baby game, people online would be shrieking their heads off about it.

Been playing a bit so far and the tranny voice actor sounds more like a little boy than a woman.
Also, didn't they say you could side with your favorite scions?
When? I don't think the furry deserves the throne due to being a sheer retard.
