Aeneas founding Rome isn't even in the Iliad, that's the entirely separate fanfic Virgil wrote 800 years later!
Nick didn’t even read the Iliad he just watched Brad Pitt’s Troy.

Anyway what’s a good English version around these days? I found Emily Wilson’s Odyssey translation to be lacking

Quartering’s Coffee Brand Coffee Number 4 is pretty much equal to Kicking Horse Grizzly Claw coffee. I don’t drink much coffee these days but his dark roast is pretty damn good. I used to buy Starbucks’ Arabian Mocha Sanani although ever since they discontinued it I haven’t enjoyed that many coffee beans aside from the two I’ve mentioned. While using Number Four and an Aeropress with a Cafe Conceta Superfine Disc it makes a decent cup of coffee. I don’t care much for Quartering’s content but that coffee is quite good.
How do I turn on Sponsorblock for Kiwi Farms?

It gets ridiculous when people talk about the type of water used, the temperature and top-line grinder's minute differences.

I don't think you could tell the difference between different top-line grinders, but you could definitely taste the difference between a cheapo grinder that chops the beans up and an expensive burr grinder that macerates them properly.

I swear, my Mazzer Mini was worth every penny.

all coffee tastes the same to 99% of people anyway, only mega tryhard coffee snobs can (allegedly) tell a difference, and those are not the target audience for streamer branded coffee.
a retarded child can taste the difference between roasts or a blend that was harvested all ripe instead of one that mega roast to disguise the sticks with the beans. Major price difference might not be translated into quality but that goes for cigars, booze, etc... you can still taste the difference.

The nanny was doing a lot of the heavy lifting wrt the kids so it's hard to know exactly how much Kayla was actually doing.
At some point, yes, but the nanny seems like a recent development. Before Nick's channel took off, she still had kids and homeschooled them. At that point in time, she would have had several kids of homeschooling age and several toddlers running around while her husband was off getting a law degree. That's enough to keep a woman legitimately busy.

I don't recall any mention of a nanny from the weeb wars days. That seems like something LawTwitter would have really latched onto back when they knew what a trust fund baby Nick was, but we were still wanting to hold onto the idea of Nick as a legitimate lawyer.

But did she ever do any teaching? Wasn't that all nick? He was the one having to taken them everywhere. I don't think she ever did anything. I think nick was forced to hire a nanny because the house was going to shit because kayla wasn't doing her part.

Once again, nick was the one taking them to all the activities.
The only thing Nick ever taught was a class on the constitution. We know Kayla taught music and art at the coop, we don't know what classes were taught at home outside the coop, but guaranteed Nick wasn't teaching them.

And we heard Nick bitching about his driving schedule after the worst day of his life but, guaranteed, he was not driving anybody around during the time he was doing trial streams, and we don't know how much chauffeurring he was doing before then, either. We also know that Nick drives certain kids to certain things, but that doesn't mean he drives all the kids to all the things. He's the sort of narcissist to aggrandize his own contributions and conveniently not mention everything his wife does.

Did she get to the point where she did absolutely nothing? Yep. But that does seem to be a post trial stream development.

Seeing Nick joke and laugh with Dax Herrera while his children are in an unfamiliar situation with strangers (correct me if I am wrong but if I read the report correctly they were not placed with family) probably scared every day and missing their deadbeat druggie parents makes me fucking sick. He's doing nothing to get his kids back. He couldn't make it more obvious that he doesn't give a shit and hates his family, I hope that will be held against him when it comes to sentencing.

I think she's broken. I'm not making excuses for a woman deemed an unfit mother by the state but do think Kayla Rekieta followed her husband down the path he chose for fear of losing him. From her perspective, she had a near-perfect life once and now it's gone and never coming back. Her children will never look at her or think about her the same even if when grown and on their own they eventually manage to forgive her. Or not.

Grim stuff. Kayla's probably high right now, desperately trying not to think about anything at all.
The problem is without her side of the story we'll never really know. Almost our entire perspective of Kayla is based around how Nick portrays her, and we all know his word is as reliable as a Denny's waitress. It's possible she is a docile doormat who acquiesced to her husband's every whim, it's also possible she's a complete psycho and Nick started drinking in the first place to cope with her, it's also possible they are both as bad as each other; a match made in their own demented heads.

We'll probably never know the real story, but the fact remains whatever the truth is Kayla allowed her children to live in that environment just like Nick did, and for that they both deserve a bullet.

I have to say, the idea that she got hooked on opioids after prescription due to a back injury is reasonable enough. That could have been the spur for getting a nanny in, and also the excuse for Nick to start abusing his drugs of choice.

(correct me if I am wrong but if I read the report correctly they were not placed with family)
There's been conflicting information. The CPS report said they've been placed into foster care, whereas others like Yellowflash and Aaron, the Liar are claiming they're with the grandparents.

Not that either option is much better in regards to your underlying point. The kids know their father is a Youtube livestreamer and at least some of them are watching his livestreams to see their dad only to see him acting happier than ever before. The psychological damage that must inflict is disturbing.

They've gotta be blaming themselves in one way or another. Either blaming themselves for drawing the attention which led to the warrant or blaming themselves for their dad's decision to start abusing cocaine in the first place. Children are irrational. Children blame themselves even in the most ideal situations where everyone is doing their part to reunite the family and assure them that they're not the ones responsible; it's all but guaranteed that their father going out of his way to keep them away is giving them the impression they're the catalyst for everything.

I hope they put him in the shittiest blackest nursing home in Detroit when he's old.

Maybe the 9yo might need daddy with her coke withdrawal but over they're better off without their father tbh.

No more risks of 'accidental' coke use, no more mommy & friend doing snow angels, no more degen shit and walking in filth.
Doesn't look that way if parents being in the picture is essential to you but it's an absolute win for the little ones.

And if they tune in for his show, they can see he's not miserable and laughing with his e-daddy, so they'll forgive themselves but not doing the laundry or whatever else cope was used to not blame Rekieta.

In his defense they do get blended a lot. He did get the basics right, he didn't say Aeneas founded Carthage or something absurd.
Nick didn’t even read the Iliad he just watched Brad Pitt’s Troy.

Robert Fagles for both.

The Classics are one of my passions, hence the cognitive dissonance when Nick butchers it. As memtioned previously, he is enamoured with a science-fiction story with highly sexual plot set in a simulacrum of the Trojan War and that is affecting his recollection with the general coom brain.

I second the Fagles reccomendation. Joyce is one of my favourites, but there are more comprehensives.

Side note: Seamus Heany's Beowulf is surprisingly good for a modern translation. I only mention it because there is an overlap on Classic Greek/Roman and OE literary enthusiasts.

I think the CHIPS case thread is divided, but it is very possible they are with family. I think the mechanisms in MN are set up to more easily facilitate placement with family within a few weeks.

The only thing that keep people on the fence (besides direct evidence) is that the court may not want unsupervised content with Nick and Kayla to be allowed by the grandparents and the fact that the local family may not have the resources to support 5 children and the house Nick's parents have is on the smaller side. The Rekietas have wealth to solve these issues, but nothing is proven.

That's not how the children see it though. They don't know any other life than living with their parents. They won't stop missing their parents because they realize "Oh this is objectively a safer environment for me". They probably cry themselves to sleep. Nick and Kayla should be eaten up with guilt and shame, but they don't have hearts.

I deeply believe it will have the opposite effect and will only reinforce the harmful notion that they've always been an anchor around their father's neck dragging him down.

You can be placed in foster care and be with family. The family just needs to take classes and get certified while the kids are in their care.

Pretty much. Just Google "branded coffee": you don't even need a Costco card and a label printer, someone else can do that for you.
Maybe we should set up "Rackets Regret Roast", and send any profit to kids charities in Minnesota. Just because it's funny.
Each bag of coffee includes a special prize. A small bag of white powdered non dairy coffee "creamer"
