Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

That Bionic Commando reboot was made by Grin, a western studio. DMC was also a western reboot.
I'm going to explain why you're wrong and @LinkinParkxNaruto[AMV] is right.

The reason Bionic Commando and DmC got made the way they did was because, at the time, the head of Capcom's R&D division was one Keiji Inafune. He was infamous in the 2000s for talking incredible amounts of bullshit about how Japanese games were falling behind. So what he did was contract out various Capcom IPs to Westerners at exorbitant cost.

Bionic Commando for example was produced by Inafune's friend and English translator Ben Judd using Grin. The reason DmC got the way it did was because, after DMC4, even though the Japanese side wanted to make 5, Inafune took the series away from them and gave it to Ninja Theory.

These bombs were part of why Inafune quit Capcom and tried the disastrous Mighty Number 9 Kickstarter with Ben Judd. He is now known as Con Man because of how badly that Kickstarter went, as a Mega Man reference.

I'm the biggest Jak and Daxter fanboy I know but the story of 3 is like a sequel to a game that never happened. There are so many moving parts and reveals that have nothing to do with 2 and it's super noticeable. Honestly Jak X is a better jak 2 sequel.

Jak 1: We're trying to find out the mystical secrets of the Precursors in our happy-yet-post-apocalyptic world and stop the Dark Sage and the Lukers!
Jak 2: Eh, fuck that setting and forget the Lurkers, let's just fast-forward five hundred years. Stop the Metal Heads from destroying this world like they did to the Precursors!
Jak 3 : Actually we decided that setting was kind of gay, sort of forget anything we said about the politics of the city, there's this Mad Max world, and uh, uh, idk, anyway the Precursors were ottsels all along. Trilogy ends on a cheap sight gag!

Looks like a lot of effort was put into it, but I actually like the art style even less than Cuphead's. The only other games I like aside from Vanillaware's which have that moving-cartoon kinda look are the South Park RPGs.

I'm a fan of Berserk but the Berserk references in Fromsoft games are getting worse. It's nice to see a hill of swords as a homage to Miura but writing entire characters to be Berserk-ish is so lazy and uncreative. Now Elden Ring has their own Guts & Griffith which was fucking uncecessary but Miyazaki is gay for Miura so there can never be enough Berserk references. 🙄

Same with Lovecraftian themes. Bloodborne did it best. We don't need the same things over and over again. In my opinion it's time to get creative again and look into other themes, ideas & mythology. If Fromsoft uses the same stale, old concepts & themes in the next game, they are officially creatively bankrupt.

FromSoft has long since passed "references" territory. They're full on in the territory of "You do know that Miura (now his estate) could sue the fuck out of you for plagiarism, right?". It's not just a simple "Oh hey, that's a Berserk reference/that's clearly inspired by Berserk!", it's outright just copying and relabeling shit from Berserk because Miura (now his estate) never got sue-happy. I guarantee you FromSoft wouldn't be "making references" if Miura was more like Nintendo when it comes to guarding his IP.

I've never actually read Berserk, but once I actually started looking into it the amount of things From uses as a "homage" is actually disgusting. If these games weren't so good, I would hope people would notice the blatant rip offs going on.

Would you expect a Berserk official game being nothing more than a dynasty warriors clone?

This just respect given, not a rip off.

To be fair to them, I think the references were ramped up after Miura's death. I'm pretty sure they delayed Elden Ring a little longer to put more Berserk references in it after he died.

Red Dead Redemption II has awful schizophrenic writing. One second Arthur murders 50 Pinkertons all of whom presumably had families and were just doing their jobs and five minutes later he's moralizing and berating someone for killing just one person.

He's a mass murderer but also a good guy who detests slavery, respects women, and helps suffragets.

The following meme sums up the game's writing really well.

I agree with your point but that image is such a strawman.

I think Publishers (especially Rockstar) focus far too much on Graphics, pursuing photorealism only increases time to develop a new game and how much it costs to make it, having a good art style is more important than extreme fidelity,
This is for Unpopular Opinions not Objective facts.

Red Dead Redemption has a better single player, RDRII has a better online mode. I think it's because it's a Western that embraces its video game medium, while RDRII tries to be a heavy-handed movie with its heavy scripting and linear gameplay.

He's a mass murderino but he's heckin also a good guy with a heart of gold who hates racism! Wowie zowie did you see how Arthur killed those KKK members? Epic! Racism is bad unlike robbing a train and murdering a hundred guards.

RDR2 has such bad reddit writing, I'd even say it's an early example of the safe edgy phenomenon.

Yes and no.
I think Arthur is ambigous as fuck about morality ever. Same as Niko Bellic.
Now, if you cannot take paths like refusing entirely the woman vote lady and supporting heugenism with that man... that type of things grinds my gears off.

RDR1 is exactly the same shit, but you all played that game while you were kids (in other words, retards) and didn't notice the stupid story.

Your character is a psycho mass murderer piece of shit, but the game thinks his dead is a sad event. It's fucking retard, rockstar can't write good stories at all. But you guys only realized it now because when you were 10 you still watched cartoons and capeshit and didn't have common sense yet.

I never cared about Souls games. Never got the hype around them either.
I was never a fan either, but the hype is easy to understand. After years of games so easy and handholdy that you have to try to lose on lower difficulties, something that actually challenges the player was a breath of fresh air. And people who never played NES or SNES latched onto it as the hardest game evar!

And since the difficulty is mostly trial and error you can easily lie about it by looking up build guides and cheese tactics on the internet. This is why Sekeiro and the recent Eldan Ring DLC got backlash at launch, because they couldn't lean on said guides. Once said guides were out, people turned around and say they're excellent.

I think journoshits are still salty over Sekiro, even after that video of the quadriplegic beating the game with some weird custom controller came out.
