Self-Sufficient Meta Thread - Discussion about the board, not the topics of self-sufficiency.

General car repair in relation to older vehicles. Just something that can point out what the most important parts of the car are, what their function is, how to diagnose common issues related to those parts and how to fix the problems. I’d like a basic understanding so I can build on that with some hands on experience.

There’s probably a lot of books for that on Amazon or something but I’m not a mechanic. Maybe there’s a “tried and true” book i’m not privy to.
It really depends on the manufacture, year ,model. A lot of is experience. For example, I work a lot on VWs since my family likes them (I hate them). I know what goes wrong on the model they drive because I deal with like 3 cars.
Best bet is to find an old instructor for the relvant manufacture and ask them. They'll know exactly what fails. That's not usually something listed on books sadly.

Quoting anarchists cookbook and giving instructions how to make your own shotgun shells, bullets to basic explosives is self defense technically on the other hand given how anal ADF is about these things it might count as fedposting.

A gunsmithing thread.
A how to make a weapon outta a microwave or multiple microwaves to disable vehicles, jam cell towers , point at the nieghbors house etc but that would be considered fed posting prolly huh ?

A thread about near death experiences with inert gases. p.s. no helium as they adulterated it with CO2 since its popularity with tranny exit bags.

Then you might bring those things off into little specks and dingleberries

nulls preconception

I just bought a new car and have been purchasing a list of things that are always handy to keep in a vehicle (Gloves, jump starter, first aid kit, seatbelt cutter etc.). A lot of it could fall under EDC even though I find EDC to be kinda consoomerist. Would be nice to have a place to discuss this stuff.
Congratulations on finally making it to level 1.

Nigger.

I would actually like to discuss pickling with other farmers, I've been meaning to get into pickling and making jam but I never got around to

There is a workaround. Now shuttered ran by one mans lunacy paladin press books . They have shit loads of similar naughty stuff it null allows it digital copies to be uploaded.

There is general demand for such books because of ameican paranoid mindset so there is always different versions of the same shit.

Detailed list

420 books with names like explosive dusts , how to make a silencer etc.

I always carry a pair of scissors, zip ties, headlamp, a set of spare bulbs for car lights and a car tape (not sure if it's the correct name, but it's a duct tape made for cars).
Also a car fire extinguisher- but they're mandatory in my country.
However the most important thing is to actually remember where exactly you placed all of it. I've heard many stories of people forgetting where their extinguisher is located- as some keep it under the driver's seat, some under the passenger's seat and some in the trunk.

Awesome. Might post about my discoveries in edible weeds and herbs, I don't really have anyone that would appreciate the topics.

Foraging and making home made preserved foods have always been interesting to me, hope to see your guys inputs on future threads.

I welcome this paranoid section and think this definitely opens this site up to being more than just an "internet gossip" site.

Also /k/ sucks and I haven't been on 4chan in ages, it would be nice to see some similar type threads here.

Have you seen this? I'm not too versed in it but this seems like something that might be fitting for that topic. Maybe a general thread for Radio/Comms type shit might fit better, just brainstorming.

Meshtastic

Not to ruin anyones LARP here, but if SHTF, I don't think you got time to tinker with radios and other electronics too much. You will be busy homesteading or moving/hiding at the same time maintaining the tools related to those tasks.

I have noticed a lot of people going into very niche topics of prepping, while they haven't given enough attention to heat, water, food and hygiene. The four main elements to solve before doing anything else (the fifth would be defence to protect yourself and those four logistics you have gathered), and I honestly think that most people haven't solved all of them yet before going into those niche topics.

  • Multiple devices that can be charged with a solar cell pack (Laptops, phones and tablets with SD card support)
    • Books/documents
    • Media archives (videos + audobooks + music)
    • Offline GPS maps
    • Video editor/recording software + Note apps (notepad is good enough on laptops), incase of needing to document stuff
  • external DVD driver + DVD archive backups (just in case) with similar stuff as above
  • External HDD's
  • SD + microSD cards that can be swapped on the mobile/tablet devices.
I choose to keep it very simple due to it will be practically impossible to repair electronics in a SHTF scenario ("good luck maintaining, moving and running that NAS server"), so if I can just stack up a bunch of cheap devices and a few cold storage archives scattered around to open them up, it's good enough for surviving. Personally I just refurbished or do a factory hard reset on some old laptops and phones that I have accumulated over the years and copied over all the shit with some legacy installers for them to run said things, I'm pretty sure your parents or siblings got a few too, so you can easily get in the +10 amount of devices with said offline access to stuff that can easily be copied over to new devices as well.

Also, don't underestimate books. Keep a few around related to the topics here.

If all these 3 storage types and their duplicates malfunctions for me, I guess it's the universe telling me that electronics wasn't meant to be used post SHTF.

Brilliant Idea!
Specifically I need a thread focusing on Cherry Flavored Dill Pickles.
cherry_pickle.png
I'm afraid my current rate of consumption of these Pickles is no longer sustainable economically and need Farmers help determining the most efficient way to grow, process, and store them etc.
I know how to make Ranch and Mango Flavored Kiwis if anyone is interested in becoming self-sustainable on that front.

@Null
Great start and a great idea.
I like the homebrew and moonshine thread - but we need to fold in the OTHER homebrew threads (or just end them)

Maybe also the Wine/Wine Appreciation ? It includes home wine production...

My contribution...
We need a Home Tobacco Production board. The finer aspects of growing, harvesting, drying , and curing tobacco is fascinating.

The US Army technical manuals have some pretty info on various topics and tactics
