Nexpo/YT Horror Channels - Do they all suck

We already have Emesis Blue and nothing is ever topping that. I'm a TF2sperg so I've seen every fucking tweaked model in Garry's Mod and the gay ARGs they are attached to and none of it ever comes close to being half as good as Emesis, where despite the whole point being how the game itself is fucking up physically with the mercs the true horror is how its fucking up their minds.

Yeah, Emesis Blue actually does horror well and interpret it greatly compared to the other lackluster ARGs that're just meant for TF2 youtubers - who have the editing skills of a MrBeast-esque youtuber mixed with SPOOKYY scary edits - to latch on and make a dumb video on it with the text being "YOU CAN'T RUN...", "THEY'LL FIND YOU..."

Can't believe the movie's already over a year old. Nothing will ever compete with Emesis Blue in the TF2sphere with how it tackled and showcased things. It did something with horror and made it intriguing, uncomfortable, and mesmerizing, something I have yet to see any of those ARGs who take every horror trope known to man do themselves. Can't wait for Emesis Green.

I think this new wave of internet horror isn't meant to, well, horrify you so much as it is to excite you. You're still meant to be scared of course, but it's showcased in a safer and more thriller-esque way that the material it covers is far easier to digest and understand without all those icky feelings like disgust and a deep sense of hopelessness with the world and humanity killing the whole vibe and possible even ruining your day. It's a different kind of horror than the one many of you people in this thread seem to enjoy so much. Probably ought to be considered its own subgenre since it's become so distinct.

That's the thing I simultaneously don't mind and is also miffed about. Horror doesn't always have to be nihilistic, dark grunge stuff that'd make people have depression for a week. Sometimes, horror can be this thing where it's scary but not too scary. But, that's where the issue lies. Many people are thinking horror can only be that. That it can't subvert expectations or genuinely make people uncomfortable - since uncomfortableness in the community is just silence before a jumpscare or some other bare bones jack that they'll eat up - and if you want to be uncomfortable, don't forget to add like twenty trigger warnings before the start or people will think you're glorifying/justifying every inhumane action known to man.

Why do you think the only words they can describe most horror/Analog Horror stuff is that it's "disturbing" and literally nothing else? They're conditioned to only see horror as one thing, "disturbing". Nothing else. Or they're just really terrible at expanding their vocabulary. Either or.

But if there was a subgenre for this kind of horror, it'd definitely be "Safe Space Horror" or "Safe Horror" for short. It's basically kiddie horror when you think about it. Horror for people who prefer getting some little scares and all (or making overly long theory/essay videos) but not scares that'll leave them traumatized. That's good n' all, but they should also accept that not every horror is gonna be filled with that "safe space horror" and complaining about it and getting on your moral high ground doesn't do jack. Unfortunately, the community's a hivemind like most communities on the internet, so, their actions will be justified, anyway.

Nexpo's videos are not only TLDW but holy shit the narration is terrible, how does anyone listen to this? His microphone is extremely over compressed and there is too much make-up gain. This is the only popular Youtuber I know where I have to turn the video audio down, it's too loud. Also not sure what he does with his EQ but his voice sounds muddy as fuck, no depth to the sound and there's a noticeable lack of clarity, he almost sounds nasally.

There's plenty of other content creators and streamers guilty of this shit too. I might sound like a snob but there's no excuse for a narration based channel with millions of subs to sound like this, there's plenty of other big creators who's emphasis isn't on narration figured out audio design years ago. If you're gonna spend several hundred dollars on audio equipment, learn how to use it please.

If we're counting TF2 videos as horror, then I should probably post my favorite one: Emesis Blue
doesn't Emesis Blue have more than a few "homages" to The Shining?
i can't remember much about it other than the confusing storyline, the scene where the head of scout's mom drops off, and the hellscape filled with corpses

Had Urban Spook been presented like--I don't know, Local 58--I couldn't imagine you'd see so many people criticizing it the way they have. Probably shift the other way if it had some kind of mystery too, even if it barely existed and made absolutely no sense.
If Urban Spook presented his works in the way you described I don't think it would have gained this much traction. Say whatever you want about Urban Spook's series quality but it feels different compared to the other "safer" horror series.

Another video on it has been released
One thing I'm noticing amongst ALL of the videos discussing this topic is that none of them bring up StrngVegas as of yet. Now at a glance you'd wonder why would it matter? Well, I think it's connected to whatever is going on in drb0sch's series.
Now I know what you're probably thinking, this is probably just some retard copying drb0sch's style. That is until drb0sch himself replied to one of these comments after someone theorized this is his alt account saying "This isn't me but interesting regardless." which is already a red flag since I don't think drb0sch has commented anywhere else yet? If he has I've never seen it nor been told. But the thing that solidifies it for me is the fact that these comments have now been deleted. Or at least they seem to be since I couldn't find them when I went to go look today. StrngVegas only has two videos with only about 50 or so comments so it wouldn't have been hard to find. Thankfully some faggot on reddit captured the conversation.

Oh yeah they also have a lot of weirdly similar themes and stuff in them and involve Mr. House in some manner so suffice to say I think they might be connected somehow. It just seems really odd for them to just go and delete these comments. Maybe they realized it made the connection way too obvious? :story:

EDIT: Turns out I'm a retard or Youtube was being weird for me. The comments are in fact still there. Still think it means something.

EDIT 2: Also I forgot in the screenshot they're quoting I think the original description or something? That got changed if nothing else. So yeah maybe I'm not too far off and they thought mentioning b0sch directly in the description was too much?

Feels like it's deeply inspired by classic horror movies as a whole. It has a very specific approach to pacing in how quickly it transitions between chapters, uses fade to black, its lighting and composition, how it handles its intro and outro etc. I can't put my finger on it, but I think there's a specific director they're inspired by. Someone for sure.

As for The Shining, there's a scene of blood overflowing a room, so that checks out.

I think the major reason for this change is that the internet has gotten more centralized over time. Back in the 90s, 00s, or even the early 10s, it wasn't uncommon to have some relatively unknown schizo site pop up in a web search, especially if you were looking for spooky stuff. The internet was just so huge and open and unpoliced that it was entirely conceivable that, for example, some unknown whistleblower had set up a web 1.0 site to try to expose a government conspiracy or some psychopath had a site to show off his kills. Nowadays though, with the advent of automated moderation and the fact that normalfags only use like 5 sites most of the time, the idea that something scary could be "real" is laughable. You can get banned from mainstream sites for fucking anything, there's no way most people would believe the kayfabe.
I believe i mentioned in a response that creepypasta itself wasn't even that popular since it originated in forums and images boards. It wasn't as widespread as it is now where everyone with blogs or mics are reading them on youtube making money off those works. I'm slowly catching up on the last few pages of the thread but back then the Jeff the Killer face was something of genuine mystery but as yall said nowadays nobody really cares since the story itself is old, trash and i doubt the fandom that obsess over the character even care where the image even came from since its mystery is worthless. That to me speaks volumes because a lot of the said mystery was because nobody even knew who these creators of these stories were but thanks to the internet and weird clout behavior people who make AH and a chunk of the horrorsphere in general act like they are celebrities so you immediately know who they are.

This was mentioned but i agree with it as a lot of these creators miss the point that the mystique of the horror they make is because they were unknown artists instead of peolpe you can legit find on first and last name basis.
The one minor internet era where it was popular to make shitty creepypastas and also the videos making fun of those was kinda funny, Muathar got a career out of it and to this day we still have retards like Slimebeast being retarded online, JC The Hyena started a fucking phenomenon and then seemingly earned very little to nothing out of it in the long term
Mutahar from what i heard even quit the scene thanks to the egos that were taking over. It's funny because in JC's case some people can salvage an already shit concept and sort of make it a thing with varying results. It's part of the same thing with Jeff The Killer as these bad concepts will never leave when a new generation finds a way to co-opt and warp them.

Slimebeast is a moron, but the grifters screwing him over weren't better either

Yeah, most of them are to The Shinning but two lines that are repeated throughout the movie are verbatim from The Jaunt. Almost all the references are to Stanley Kubrick movies but also to thrillers in general (the scene of the suitcase being stolen is inspired on Se7en for example, the suitcase itself is an evil version of the one from Pulp Fiction, the Heavy acts like Mr. X, Medic's tapes are a bunch of classic horror flicks that seem to inspire Emesis Blue to various degrees). Half of the fun with the latter is connecting those dots.

I wanted to try and make a horror series once. Even sat down to write notes. Nothing set in stone, just broads strokes that I could build upon and make something cool and spooky.

Then I noticed I was just subconsciously ripping off True Detective Season 1 and Memento. Scrapped it and never tried again. :story:
Here's some advice: Do not give a shit. No one is original nowadays or really ever was (True Detective straight up rips lines off from Thomas Ligotti's work, the work of Jorge Luis Borges inspired Memento). What matters is what you do with those inspirations and how you make them your own, just wear them with pride.
I like your idea, so make it before someone steals it.

because you're watching some fag explain something that's supposed to evoke a feeling instead of having a plot
Honestly I'm not sure about that anymore. I think it's some gay alternate universe shit.
Like the obvious thing being the one video that shows the Interplay and Black Isle studios logo on start up instead of the default Bethesda one.
But apparently in the latest video "Nadir" some people picked out that there was audio from this apparently fan made Beatles song basically from an album or something that was more or less created as "What-if the Beatles never split up?" so unfortunately, I'm starting to think the plot is going to be some gay alternate universe shit.

That is VERY cringe, but what if it was followed by the release of the only complete Van Buren fangame?

Rob is also Bad because he used to do a Youtube series called "Why Would You Put That on the Internet?", which was a evil show about looking at weird shit people willing posted on the internet and saying it's weird, only truly evil and demented people do that!

Wait till they figure out Rob's birth name is "Rob Dyke."
Based.

Lol I know that feeling. I tried the horror drug once, trying to pull from all my worst fears.
(Vaguely human shapes with eyes, sleep paralysis, existential/hopeless nightmare scenarios and/or situations, conspiracy bull, horrifying sounds, and the general evils of man)

All the good things that keep me up at night.

There wasn't some deep plot, just some kind of three-part grand epic. Basically, Local 58 Contengency with the government fucking the people over, Jim Jones style. Then the survivors living in the end times while the world slowly dies thanks to some otherworldly horror hiding in plain sight but with Midsommar sprinkled on top to contrast the psychological degeneration and hopelessness of the situation.

Then the final part would be peak despair in the post-apocalyptic wasteland with those otherworldly horrors. Kinda like Sam Beckett's Endgame but with I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream.

Anyway, new Savox!

Good video as always. He really is part of the crème de la crème of true crime IMHO. Also holy fuck I hate sandniggers so much.

"Omg a woman having any power?! KILL HER"

Fucking hell....

Is it sad that i think some retarded "oo its a peek into an alternative universe" still seems more interesting than most of other horror slop out there
the medium itself is pretty neat, even if its a tiny bit stupid im still interested on where it goes, heres hoping it doesnt go full slop

As long as it keeps up the atmosphere I suppose I don't really care.

If people play around with it then it is very interesting but usually it devolves into "this universe has monsters in it and they are real and scary" rather than something that could tell an interesting story with the use of alt history.
Yeah exactly, which is why I usually roll my eyes when it comes up. It feels like a cop out at times.
AH here has been beaten to death but for a good reason. A large chunk are the same exact things told in the same exact ways. Usually some sort of creature/eldritch horror that devolves into religious paranoia. I liked Doctor Nowhere's series until the Boiled One which went so hard and so cliche into the religious stuff that it hurts. It's tired since Mandela started like this and beat it down then other creators started to beat it also now it's just this mush on the ground. The Smile Tapes is something that gets me as to be a bit of a sperg for a second it has a "realistic" edge to it. I can see something like this happening in our world minus the super zombies nonsense but most AH makes me sigh in exhaustion when i see them go into the same alternate timeline set in like the 90s or 2000s but here are big scary monsters that are just moonwalking through cities killing people and instead of there being wide panic people are making shitty VHS educational videos and how to avoid these creatures that in their lore are seemingly impossible to get away from or kill. It just becomes lame but i have rambled enough.

The weirdest thing is it seems like it disappears and re-appears at random. Or maybe youtube is just being fucky with me for some reason. I could swear to god they removed the mentions of drb0sch from the description directly but yet it's back again.
I think I might just be retarded.

Anyway I hope the youtubers pick up on this. Mostly because I'm interested in potentially whatever the fuck the audio is at the end of StrngVegas' 2nd video is. I'm sure it's got to be something related like in Drb0sch's shit.
I also find the use of Howard Hughes as a stand-in for Mr. House to be clever and fun considering he's one of the people he was based on.
