Youtube threw this at me when it was uploaded and big recommend - it's functionally the 2012 man-bun virtue signaling "I'm masculine enough to grow my hair and a beard but I'm also a safe ally don't worry babe". This version is just "Hey, I'm a normal fella like yourselves why don't we stop being problematic though!" and purity testing spaces they traditionally wouldn't succeed in without the look. The vast majority of people with any non-hideous style are just adopting it because they think it looks good and there's nothing more to it but for content creators who rely heavily on their own image certain looks can often come with ulterior motives.
It's funny to me because I've been a mullet away from this style for the better part of 10 years and have been seriously reconsidering due to being even tangentially associated with people like this.
