Any organisation is only as good as its members. Since most if not all government agencies are forced to consider DEI-guidlines for hiring and very little else, you can bet the competency crisis will become critical during our lifetimes, lmao.

He was on the other side of the Adriatic when it happened. He immediately returned to Italy without really understand the situation in Rome. When he landed in Italy, he immediately appropriated a whole bunch of money that Caesar had intended to be used for a war in the east. He used the money to recruit an army of Caesar's veterans and then matched to Rome.

I think when he heard the news, he was intent on raising an army and fighting a civil war against the assassins. That he was the natural leader of Caesar's faction and that he would destroy anyone who got in is way. I think he was surprised both that the assassins were not more ruthless against Caesar's followers after the asssassination and that Mark Anthony had made peace with them.
