The elder Harris sent an unsolicited statement to Kingston-based Jamaica Global Online, for which the emeritus professor of economics at Stanford University wrote a recent essay on his family’s history.

“My dear departed grandmothers (whose extraordinary legacy I described in a recent essay on this website), as well as my deceased parents, must be turning in their grave right now to see their family’s name, reputation and proud Jamaican identity being connected, in any way, jokingly or not with the fraudulent stereotype of a pot-smoking joy seeker and in the pursuit of identity politics,” he wrote.

“Speaking for myself and my immediate Jamaican family, we wish to categorically dissociate ourselves from this travesty,” he added.

Caffeine hasn't kicked in yet, but 'bulletproof man watches enemy from his flying machine high in the sky' sounds a lot cooler than it really is. Without giant robots involved coolness can never be achieved anyway.

I would imagine this heavily depends on *where* you live in CT. In my neighborhood there’s multiple families with “support the police/military“ signs and at least a couple Trump 2024 signs. Haven’t seen anything going the other direction.

Kamala needs to court the goth vote are there even goths anymore? Anyway the dark Magick Wiccan types as cover. If the dead voters are questioned by the MAGA judge she can say that her supporters must accidentally resurrected then because they felt the importance of their vote from the spirt realm. After all the Judge thinks Jesus moved the bullet to hit the firefighter instead.

Well said.
But also now they allowed someone like JD Vance to carry Trump's legacy and be a real threat for the next 8 years after him. Before there wasn't anyone strong enough to be taken seriously for that role.
So they've just given the GOP potentially 12 years to get their shit together and solidify some real wins, when before there was a decent chance they could have secured the 8 years after Trump and done things their way, instead.

If they were removed from cable packages and news aggregators, no one would even remember that they exist.

I keep watching this because I'm hypnotized by how very bad this is, to the point of wondering if she's being actively sabotaged by the main DNC apparatus.

Some points:

  • Strange aesthetic choices: Showing a burned-out wasteland and an upside down flag early on? Weird. Then watch how the screen blurs to black around Trump. Common tactic for implying your enemy is evil, a force of darkness. But then when Kamala shows up, it stays black around her. A lot of the ad is shot darkly, like you'd depict an opponent in a negative ad, even when Kamala is being shown.
  • Poorly chosen "Freedom" messaging: Is anyone actually focus testing this? Young Democratic voters don't associate this word with extremely positive vibes. They're more likely to go for vocabulary relating to rebuilding trust, resilience, etc. Also like how restricting your freedom to own a gun is also a "freedom" here, there's independents who notice this too and will think of it as distasteful doublethink.
  • Subdued vocal tone: I've heard more passionate voiceover takes from people hoping to serve on village councils. What is going on with the voice here? If this is her attempt at "authoritative," shit's bad. Imagine this voice talking to foreign leaders.
  • Pride flags in the hands of grandpa immigrants: Some wine aunts will think this is inspiring but minorities will see it as a distasteful way of trying to get two bits of pandering in at once.
  • "Let's get to work": This is the Kamala call to action, but she says it like an HR director. It couldn't be more precision machined to position her as someone in your workplace you can't stand.
  • The music: Beyonce's Freedom, with the line "I'ma keep-a runnin' 'cause a winner don't quit on themselves" as a final punch. This positions Kamala's run as an alternative to simply giving up, a last-ditch effort to make lemonade out of lemons by running on pure ego. That's ... well, that's probably a lot too on the nose for this campaign. It's like something someone uncharitable would say was the theme of the campaign, not something you'd actually want to adopt voluntarily.

Rumors are rampant (and have been mentioned in this thread) that a huge part of the party didn't want Kamala and was trying to force an open convention in order to anoint Mark Kelly, but Biden did a final "fuck you" by throwing his weight behind Harris. But the Obama wing has a lot of the production people who make and direct and script these videos and pick the music and all of that.

Kamala is very likely surrounded by saboteurs who are going to be dishing out insulting, intentionally bad slop while confused, desperate rank-and-file Democrats try to get hyped about it, all while the donor class is giving a side-eyed smirk to each other and discussing in the real halls of power how they can still keep her off the throne.
