Well the consequences of even mentioning him are an immediate ban. They're all scared of the consequences if they mention him. It's ridiculous.
We all saw how silent they were when GNOME hired a shaman. That type of new age crap should be mocked, not ignored for "the greater good".
i think so?Wasn't improved multi-monitor support an explicit justification for Wayland to replace X?
time to check /g/ for the freshest memes and what they come up with next.Well the consequences of even mentioning him are an immediate ban.

Feels like gnome is scared of something. Maybe COSMIC. Maybe all the "ebussy" and "whats the use case for using gnome" jokes are getting to this fucker.
All these "unattached" compositors have the same lineage and are forks of each other. picom is a fork of compton, compton is a fork of xcompmgr-dana which is a fork of xcompmgr which I think is over 20 years old at this point now. Looking at picom I think it's a combination of very naive redraw strategies (where a single scrolling text will keep your CPU/GPU awake forever, even if it's covered by another window) and the way vsync works. That's been my experience with compositors on Linux in general.
That's the thing, it doesn't work as intended. Modesetting (the universal, default gpu driver everyone's using X is supposed to use) flat out doesn't support tearfree in the current release of the X server. I know it works fine with amdgpu, don't know about nvidia, with the (deprecated) intel driver it'll eventually break if you don't downgrade to DRI 2, which is not only slower but also breaks things like Vulkan support. The infuriating thing is that there's no major X release which includes the fix that the mainline code already had for a year now even though it's a critical feature for many users. This is an excellent reason to run gentoo btw.; You can just pop patches in or compile the latest git version and have fixes like this. Portage is basically made for making ths possible. Often a lot more difficult in other distros.Xorg's tear-free feature is more suitable than a feature-creeping underlay for your windows.
...and scaling on HiDPI displays, which X still is better at, too. Also input latency, which is worse in Wayland. Do not take my word for any of this, you can google this. I didn't want to shit on wayland anymore before trying to use it with all advantages of current year but I could not stand it for long. the lightweight WMs seem to have all the yank of the X ones (while being, really, really barebones) but contrary to there, you cannot implement hacks or little QoL improvements because ~*safety*~. I do completely discount the monolithic DEs on purpose as I do not want to put so much of the computing I do in a singular pair of manicured, yet suspiciously male hands because that's why I left Windows behind. Maybe they fix a lot of this. I doubt it but either way, I have no interest finding out.Wasn't improved multi-monitor support an explicit justification for Wayland to replace X?
No wonder people are moving to other DEs.Well the consequences of even mentioning him are an immediate ban.

Do you remember exactly what desktop environment, linux distribution you used? Maybe someone can help you out. Keep in mind that drawing tablets can only be extensively configured while using X11 because Wayland only supports input devices implemented by libinput.i think so?
honestly, my xp-pen tablet (an artist 12 2nd gen) always acted strange with linux. one time it worked only one side, one time it would do a weird hiccup that when i powered the pc with that on, the screen resolution would fuck itself to oblivion (difficult to explain), this time it decided to not power on the screen (but the touch worked?)
well. endeavouros with kde, both the official xp-pen driver and opentabletdriver can be found in the aur.Do you remember exactly what desktop environment, linux distribution you used? wow! I've followed Lunduke for a while now (Linux sucks is a fun watch) and I do tend to feel he oversells his influence on these people a tad but no, they really do treat him like Lord Voldemort.Well the consequences of even mentioning him are an immediate ban.
I never liked GNOME because of its enormous bloat. Now I have even less of a reason to use it.Well the consequences of even mentioning him are an immediate ban.

If it bothered him maybe he shouldn't make Gnome so shit that it keeps spawning forksWell the consequences of even mentioning him are an immediate ban.

That guy tries pretty hard to be the centrist of the desktop linux space, if you look at his coverage of the GNUboot and Hyprland debacles and that he has refused to denounce Lunduke shows he at least presents an image of apolitical-ness.
Did he just watch brian lunduke's video on this. And because he doesn't want to mention him. Pretending like he discovered all this himself?
I can't help but get the feeling that's what he is doing right now.
Edit: on the topic of lunduke.
Idk if the w520 is old enough to be using 2nd gen intel or if it still uses 4th. If so, I have a thinkpad with 4th gen intel, and I've used prerty similar distros to cachy on it. No problems with those. If its 2nd gen it definitely makes sense it would perform like shit.View attachment 6233410
So it turns out, this dude installed Cachy on an old-ass ThinkPad, had issues (rightfully so) and because of that, then proceeded to whinge at CachyOS. All because it doesn't work on his vintage laptop.
The absolute state.
if he's having boot issues then it makes perfect sense. for like a decade after EFI came out it was very very fussy and anything slightly unusual will break it. If he had disabled efi boot and used MBR boot he may have been fine.Idk if the w520 is old enough to be using 2nd gen intel or if it still uses 4th. Otherwise idk, he might have an internet connection like josh's
awesome. seems the upgrade instructions from 21.3 aren't available yet.
I don't see a "use case" for ever trusting something developed by such severely mentally ill people.Well the consequences of even mentioning him are an immediate ban.
