I'm not sure that's what's happening. Without a divorce ruling she can keep her daughter away from him indefinitely. The only downside is that she also doesn't get child support, but Gunt being a broke ass pigga who's month behind on his payments for Xander wouldn't be a great source of income anyway. I think he let it slip on a stream that they want to provoke him to file for divorce because they are better off without a ruling.

At some point he's going to fuck up badly enough to run afoul of the law and is probably too dumb to navigate the fun world of la mordida. If he's lucky they chuck his ass out of the country. If he's not he gets to enjoy Mexican prison.

This is true, a friend of mine worked in a prison as a psychologist/psychiatrist. Part of this involved teaching classes about how to plan for the future, so essentially how to picture what it is you would like to achieve and how you could plan to achieve it. I used to talk to him about it a lot, for the same reason I use this forum - he would always have funny stories about the strange and ridiculous people who were in the prison.

One thing he always said was that most criminals tend to stop offending patterns in their late 20s, their brain fully develops and a bunch of other changes in the body lead them to become a lot calmer and a lot more able to consider the future effects of their actions. This has not happen for Ralph, which is very worrying for his long-term sanity.

One thing that stops brain development is substance abuse and addiction, lots of addicts who have been addicted for a long time - Ralph claims since he went to college iirc - barely progress beyond the age when they first got addicted. They can catch up, but then need to be sober or to otherwise break the addiction. So maybe Ralph has the mindset of a 20 year old at this point.
