Unpopular opinion but I think in 50y, abortion is going to be looked at as a barbaric medical procedure much in the same way we see lobotomies and will view SRS/GRS. The way things are going, I think it's likely that pregnancy prevention will be perfected and pregnancy will not only be completely opt-in but will require government review in the same way we handle adoption. The jump from birth control pills to IUD seems to outline this trend and as the population continues to grow, people will become more open to regulating pregnancy to prevent the next generation from being filled with retards.

If pregnancy preventative measures can be moved closer to perfect with reduced side effects that come with the likes of condoms, birth control, IUDs, etc., maybe we can reduce the elective abortion population and then the medical necessary abortion is much more tasteful to a centrist position. It's cheaper to prevent pregnancy than to abort it. I don't understand someone who can seriously say they prefer abortion over contraceptives. It's more expensive, invasive, distasteful, and unpopular then investing into preventative measures and solving the problem before it becomes one.

I'm just asking for the curiosity of it. You present an interesting point that there's reasonable (three streams) that would imply incentive.
