Fallout series

One thing that has pissed me off about the Fallout series is the innate need to use old music rather than music that would have been released around the time before the Nuclear Holocaust of 2077. I get it, it's expensive to have artists make music suited to the world of your game, but GTA fucking 2 did this right. I view American musicians in this world as being in a revival more than stagnating. Think of it as a 1980s/1990s production sound with a 1950s/early 1960s rhythm. Examples: Doo-wop New Wave, Rockabilly, alternative country, electric swing (not the sound of electric swing but using electric instruments), Instrumental music, Neo-Jazz, and early space-age surf. The Atomic-punk feel of the first games just gave me this sense of a Cold War Renaissance enjoyers that ignored what the culture would produce: a MAD situation.
Eh, the old music reinforces why the setting originally had the 50's theme: to provoke a feeling of nostalgia. Though I agree seeing more Fallout original music in universe would be cool. Fallout 4 did a little bit of that with Magnolia.

We Happy Few seems unironically more appealing than the very concept of Britbong Fallout.
That's like saying you'd prefer Strychnine to Cyanide. I finished the first character arc in We Shitted Few and I wanted to tan my wrists.
Unfortunately you have to mod NV to hell to keep it from crashing.
Seriously, stability, bug fix and performance mods take up like 90% of my load order.

On the flip side at least NV runs buttery smooth and I haven't had a single crash, but that's the price you gotta pay.
I just finished a full vanilla playthrough of FNV. Just the regular steam version not even the 4gb patch added. I had some crashes but not enough to warrant caring about.

The game must like you then since for a lot of people the game has all kinds of issues without any of the patches.

There's a lot but honestly even back in the day I could get away with like a handful of fixes on Vanilla. Just used to the mix of QOL mods that are in New Vegas. I know, sprint and modern shooter shit is kinda wack but having sprint that reduces your thirst, bashing that bonks your weapon condition blends really well with Hardcore.

But yeah. Vanilla NV is very dated, and honestly I couldn't really recommend anyone not play it without like following that Viva New Vegas guide everyone goes through.

By the way, how's Bing Bong: Fallout? I hear the gunplay is still mid and the installation is actually a fuckshoot (turn off Steam Guard? What the fuck.)

It's not bad actually, as long as it doesn't FUCKING CRASH EVERY 5 MINUTES.
Gunplay is very F04. Wish I had 2 braincells to rub together so I'd spec in to melee at the start.

Installed it through GOG. Plug and play.
Now, I don't know anything about gog, so I might have sold my entire bloodline to Xi Pingstein.

why does this faggot artificially lower the pitch of his voice?
Markiplier syndrome.
this retard literally made fallout into tarkov for no reason.
Extremely typical of the FO4 Nexus for some reason, that shitty website is 50% coomer mods and 50% ported assets from nu-CODs.

As a Britbong, this mod makes me want to vomit blood. Reddit-tier performative faux-Britishism nonsense, ohohoho crumpets and tea and bowler hats and Doctor Who and Keep Calm and Carry On and queuing and the Kings Guard and fucking terrible FAKE COCKNEY ACCENTS, all brewed up by a bunch of trannies, yanks and tranny yanks.

Fallout London just uses Fallout 4's gunplay, the major difference is that guns kill really quick, it seems like hitpoints have been reduced across the board so gunfights are really deadly.
How does it have gunplay if it's in Bongistan? They only have butter knives and cricket bats.
The serious answer is that guns in FOLON are supposed to be very rare, you might only have a flare gun and a single 32. gun by the 3 hour mark, early level enemies are either creatures or mainly melee, might have a crude handgun or something on them at best. However, if you get really lucky you might wind up with a great container roll and get a proper gun, I left the starting area with a 9mm Luger and 20 or so rounds for it.

Just needs Monty Python references, for good measure.

Also no Greggs anywhere. You're telling me Greggs wouldn't fucking survive the apocalypse? No Norf FC supporting geezers? No overzealous bobbies throwing you in gaol for a decade for writing "Paki" on a terminal?

Dude it's so sad, they could have been so much more creative. There could have been raider gangs based on the various footie fandoms ect, that could have been funny.

Why are fan games almost always made by hacks? Enderal is the only good one I can even name.

They wanted to use "I don't want to set the world on fire" in F1's intro because it fits thematically, they couldn't afford it so they used different Ink Spots song. And it somehow stuck, with Bethesda cranking it up to 11 by adding in-game radio stations.

The last 25 years of UK politics are ripe for satirising, and instead they went with post-apoc CasualUK drivel. Plus the rich vein of British post-apoc and dystopian fiction, but no, it's the aftermath of nuclear war as seen from an Edinburgh Wooden Mill.

I always thought it was somewhat ironic that Bethesda managed to get the song for the intro to Fallout 3.
I think the only reason Interplay didn't do it originally was because they wanted a ridiculous amount of cash for the license at the time.

I'm still having trouble with my installation, definitely some modding fuckery, I'm getting rather intense stuttering and lag spikes when loading cells (I assume, if I travel around it's borderline unplayable, but staying in one area is perfectly fine). Don't even have any huge graphical mods...but no crashing is pretty good for now.

But yeah. Vanilla NV is very dated,
I can agree even as someone that played both Fallout 3 and New Vegas back when they first came out. I haven't played real Fallout 3 in forever because I just can't play without some of the improvements New Vegas made for instance so I usually run Tale of Two Wastelands since I own both games on Steam along with all the DLC so why the fuck not? Might as well get my money's worth. There's a couple of mods that transfer New Vegas' speech checks and reputation system over to Fallout 3 which is nice.

That being said despite being slightly superior to Fallout 3, New Vegas is indeed very dated. Though I do try to keep my experience as close to vanilla as possible. Most of my load order is the mountains of bug fix and performance mods you could expect but also some QoL features, for instance I absolutely cannot play without the melee bash mod. As much as I dislike Fallout 4 I realize how much I took the melee bash it added for granted. Being able to just say "Fuck it." and whack the radroach you just can't seem to fucking hit with your gun is just too convenient not to have. Or being able to bash enemies that are too quick to prevent from getting up in your face like dogs and such. Not having to stop and unequip your weapon or equip a melee weapon just to crack the guy up in your face pissing you off is very handy.

Beyond those though most of my mods are cosmetic only. Mostly just classic replacers because I'm a faggot and liked the aesthetic and design of the original games. Like replacing monsters and weapons and armor with designs based on Fallout 1 and 2, shit like that.

On the subject though, I don't think I can bring myself to play Fallout 1 or 2 today. Probably a hot take and also a bit of bias since I've never really been a straight RPG guy I played through Fallout 1 and 2 once or twice at most and I don't think I could do it again. I much prefer the action RPG style of the modern games and using the classic style replacers I can somewhat fool myself into thinking I'm playing a classic fallout with the new gameplay style.

Yeah it's different for everyone. Some people get lucky like me and the game runs perfectly with the right mods but for some people it just breaks no matter what. All you can really do is pray to Todd Howard and hope the Gamebryo engine takes mercy on you.

I played that mod, there's a note in her inventory (a birthday card) that says she's 18 years old. Very lazy writing, but a lot of Frontier is like that. Anyway she's of legal age (since that apparently matters in a post-war wasteland) and I slap an explosive collar onto her every playthrough.
Pretty sure it said somewhere that she was supposed to be a child and then aged up at the last minute...only for the script to remain the same, showing a mentally stunted "legal age" teenager talking about her smelly feet. Anyone who takes interest in her is a pedophile and she is not of legal age because I refuse to give the frontier pedos any slack, especially the creep who wrote the Crusaders.

I've been playing the first two games as far back as they have still been sold in stores as new, so I definitely have some favoritism, but I genuinely don't see how people can get filtered by these two. The first game even offers you an optional tutorial to explain all the gameplay mechanics, versus the second game that just throws you into a dungeon with a spear no matter what your build and tells you to have fun. F1/F2 are very user friendly and easy to understand compared to other CRPGS, if you're struggling with those two, I think you're not an RPG gamer, period. Fallout 3/4 and even New Vegas are barely RPGs in traditional sense, more like action shooters with RPG elements. NV at least lets you do actual roleplaying, but it's the same Bethesda slop deep down.

You're really missing out, Fallout 2 just hits differently. Here is an example of my last night's session:
I went to the EPA to get a robot part to repair Skynet, a possible companion(not part of the actual game, I modded that in since the original game requires you to kill a robot inside Sierra Army Depot itself and raise an alarm, which is stupid. EPA is a hard to get to location so this rewards those who already have access to it). On the way back to Sierra, I got a special encounter with the huge stone talking head of the Vault Dweller. After we had a little slapfight over if I am really am the Chosen One or not for over 12 hours, the rock gives me a chunk of itself, which acts as a "chem" and raises my STR and AGL by 3 each for an hour. Very situational, but I have a use for it: Right next to Sierra is New Reno, and there is about one thing I haven't done there yet(aside from becoming a Prizefighter since I am not an Unarmed combatant): Become a Porn Star. My AGL is 6, which is apparently too low, my character meets every other requirement. I call upon my ancestors to give me the flexibility I need and give such a stellar performance that I get hired on the spot. This lets me shoot a movie for 500$ every month(pretty much every time I visit the town), presumably while my wife and companions, including my new Skynet robot with Vic's brain watch. If I wanted to, I could even pimp out my wife right there in the porn studio for a couple pennies, but the strain of my very first movie(ie "withdrawal" from the monument chunk, as the game does consider it a Chem) left me with STR of 4 over my original 8, limping in pain to the exit grid so I could leave town and wait it out. I will leave it to the imagination why my character was limping like that.
You will simply not get an experience like this in any 3D Fallout title. With more minimal graphics and more indepth writing and gameplay elements you get more creative scenarios and situations. Without mods, you will also never get a full squad of 5 companions outside of Fallout Tactics, having a full crew feels like meeting old friends with how much they bicker with each other and taunt the enemy in combat. Playing with one or two companions in a 3D title is just not the same.
