Mega Rad Gun Thread

Recall the meme of one dude with three mags on the gun duct taped in Yugoslavia for his AK lmao.

Sorry, in my brain I keep thinking CZ-USA got taken over by colt for some reason.

Does anyone have any experience on a G3/PTR and an FAL? I got offered to buy one of my friends FAL/G3 or an AR-10 roughly the same price (10 is a little cheaper). I gotta finish checking the FAL since I'm pretty sure it's the SLR inch pattern.

FALs and G3s are great, reliable rifles (if you get an original or one made by a reputable manufacturer), but they are much older designs that are far less flexible than newer designs. If you want to mount optics or accessories like a weapon light it will mean getting aftermarket rails and mounts, which will mean a much heavier rifle. Magazines, especially reliable ones, are harder to find and expensive. Right now no one is making reliable FAL mags. The ones made by DSA are pretty lousy and unreliable. You're pretty much relegated to surplus magazine, which are going to be a huge crap shoot. The days of cheap, plentiful, reliable FAL mags are long gone. G3s mangle spent brass, and FALs have an adjustable gas system that's easy to fuck up if you don't know what you're doing.

AR-10 (unless it's an ArmaLite that takes the modified M-14 mags) is the more practical choice.

CZ has been pretty hands-off with Colt, letting them run themselves.
CZ fired about 70% of management and reached out and re-hired guys that should be been retained. remember when Colt abandoned the commercial market? yeah, the guys moved on to a bunch of other gun companies or just general manufacturing. ever wonder why there was a sudden jump in no-name AR-15 quality around 2003?

i don't even know where to begin. i've been working on these weapons for decades and been shooting them for longer. they're all great battle rifles and have their individual pain point and high points. really depends what you want out of them and the actual asking price. the FAL and G3 have long histories and a lot of variations over the years with some being absolute turds and some being amazing finds. the AR-10 as well, but being more familiar to guys that have an AR-15 or M16 background as it's very familiar (although it has it's own particulars).

you are better served either showing pics or giving the price and make/model. cover up SN's if you're scared of being doxed.

If you had both on the table and had to choose both have their downsides but I'd say go FAL, G3 sure you get the cool factor but they're heavy as fuckall and kick just as hard because of the roller delay. I'll die on the hill of it but get an M77 Serbian ruggedness in .308 chambering.

I forgot to mention they're all parts kits with receiver except a whole AR-10.

FAL is a L1A1 of some sort, either a C1A1 or a Aussie with an imbel reciever.
G3 is a Portugese kit, VG condition all matching numbers.
AR-10 is a assembled model with an Impact Guns gas piston.
Too bad his legal MGs aren''t for sale and I can't afford it.

C1A1 would need hands on to examine. CAI has messed up FAL builds over the years and has sometimes gotten good ones. Imbel receivers are good, and if built by a good builder the parts kit inch pattern would be pretty neat since you don't see them around much (vs Canadian/British inch FALs or various metric kit builds). inch mags and other inch FAL parts can be a little harder and more expensive to come by if you need them, but metric mags can work in the inch receiver, and some metric parts can be modified readily to fit. it can be a lightweight .308 rifle that's reasonably accurate and rugged if you do your part as a shooter.

the G3 kit from Portugal should be fine, although be aware that depending on the year the original rifle was made not all HK G3 German parts are interchangeable. especially if it was an early 60's vintage. probably alright if you feel like making a receiver or passing the kit to a builder. HK G3 parts are easy to get and are often either quite cheap (mags kind of still are although not what they used to be) or extremely expensive if you want the more specialized parts. most G3's, if built right, are fairly rugged rifles and although heavy and surprisingly hard recoil, are pretty easy to work on and maintain if you know what to look for the PMCS like bolt gap, roller egging or receiver bulges, weirdness with the locking piece if you need to run odd ammo or blanks or want to mount a suppressor or chop the barrel in the future.

"AR-10" falls into two patterns: DPMS and Armalite. AR-10 specifically is the Armalite pattern which is shared with the SR-25 and M110 among others. the DPMS pattern has high and low uppers and has enough parts differences that they do not interchange with the AR-10 from Armalite. as this is a complete rifle, you can tell the difference is if the rear of the upper receiver, when you hinge open the action, is a curve (DPMS) or has a distinct angle (Armalite) to it. there are many "AR-10" makers over the years and while most complete rifles are "okay" some can be real pains if it's a no-name or parts gun. a complete LR-308 or AR-10 rifle from the factory should be alright though if you stick with M80 ball ammo or equivalent. the LR-308 is especially popular as a varminting rifle for predator control.
Why the fuck did PSA take my order of two mags, 225 rounds of ammo, a rifle bag, and MBUS and only ship me the rear sight? What the fuck? Is this how gun shit gets shipped out? When the fuck am I getting the rest of my order?
they have 3 warehouses and 2 shops. sort of depends where stuff is coming from, works like Amazon, Brownells, Walmart, et c. you can always just ask them.

I would imagine there is a policy about not shipping firearms with ammo simultaneously. IKD could be wrong.

I last minute mail ordered some powder without thinking about it at all. I figured at worst it would say "flammable" "handle with care" "fragile". Nope. they slapped 2 stickers that said warning explosives in bright orange and faced them out towards the street where all my neighbors could see. Great work UPS, stellar job there. All over reloading components.

A very long time ago during the pistol brace debate I order a 9mm Upper, I come home and find a note from USPS something about "mail is not deliverable, must be picked up in person. Part of me thought the USPS were being lazy fucks, absolutely famous for losing packages from known jewelry warehouses, showing mail that wasn't even the correct street into my mailbox.. The other side of the coin was the possibility some kind of USPS law enforcement officer was going to ask what I panned to do with my parcel, I figured this was very unlikely and shifted my nuts around in jeans to the front and walked in there like I owned the place. Black guy around 25 takes my USPS note says he's gonna check in back., I explain to him the size of the box, what to look for, 10 minutes go by he comes back "yeah, um we don't got it." My reply "OK so if it isn't here and isn't in a truck where is it? According to tracking it's been at this location for at least 3 days"? "yeah... um I'm not really sure but it ain't back there" Now I'm really curious I start asking vague questions "Is there something special about this parcel? something that other parcels do not have to be scrutinized for"? I'm being as vague as possible and insisting the guy knows more than what he leads on. He never answers just says "let me check again", 3 min later he has my upper doesn't even ask for a signature or ID. I say thank you and leave wondering WTF he was doing for the first 10 minutes he went back there "to check" the first time. Maybe sell it the upper to the homies? I get it home and the back appears sealed once and all is in tact.

By happenstance of geography and as a result of changing jerbs a couple times during the coof, I rent a place in a secure building not far from a large university, so many of my neighbors are female grad students. Im not sure if I should laugh or cry when I order a case of 556 and UPS/FedEx leaves it in the foyer and the merchant just plasters what the contents are, all over the box for all the post grad degree seeking SSRI test subjects to see.

I rent a place in a secure building
Why are you refering to your apartment building like a pentagon safehouse, but besides that they are probably in a cold war with you stockpiling pepper spray, ssri's, pitbulls, and violent mullato children for when shit hits the fan and they have to kill their high test CHUD neighbor so bernie can finally win and it will be like the october revolution.
I hope you have enough ammo for the battle of secure building 52 at university square and your outnumbered 200-1 with an army of pitbulls, violent mullato gang children, and onlyfans whores who stage offensive on your third floor studio apartment

they slapped 2 stickers that said warning explosives
Did you consider these stickers are for the shippers to stop them from loading it into a plane or putting chain reaction materials in close proximity, I dont think airlines want a bunch of smokeless powder next to a lithium battery for example, it probably wasnt even the mail service that did it but the manufacturer to begin with to comply with regulations.

wondering WTF he was doing for the first 10 minutes
Sometimes if you look in the back of a post office or ups place they literally have hundreds of packages all mashed together and like 2 dudes sorting through all the shit so probably that, a post office I went to one time had like 6 cages back there with probably 200 boxes and I had to sit there and watch the lady go through all of them to get my box on the bottom which could have been missed

The perspective is odd and I can't get a great look at it, but I think it's an MK18 pistol he's running on a single point sling. He would be doing a no no if it is a pistol with that vert grip. The M4A1 is pinned from the factory, so it'd be really goofy if he was running a brace on it, and it doesn't seem long enough to be a M4V9. I'm assuming it's a Daniel Defense due to the pistol grip and quad rail. Also more fun from that video you can see state police running around with their LE6920s, other SWAT are running around with franken builds and Daniel Defense rifles. Real hodgepodge of gear. Guess you can bring your own rifle out there.

A lot of smaller PDs and sheriff's departments are A OK with you bringing your own rifle as long as it works and you've proven it works.

Or they'll cycle through a new manufacturer every 1-3 years.

Second, Italian tanks were bad but they were adequate to the task of fighting second-tier British forces during 1940-41. British cruiser tanks weren't much better at the beginning of the war: but a combination of wrong priorities, political games and horrendous industrial management caused all developments to come out too little, too late. Frankly fascinating stuff, from the historical point of view, much like the battleship armour scandal or the bomber development projects. It's a miracle the Italian fighting man managed to do the little he did.

Yep. Their air force was stuck with a clone of a French engine until 1941 as well.

You see this in cop shooting vids all the time, limp wristed firing causing a malfunction. I shouldnt be surprised given the "competency crisis" as it is now referred to, but it blows me away how someone who's job entails taking their life in their hands on a daily basis isnt at the least a mildly skilled shooter.

Most cops are paperwork people. Also, training cops to be good shootists would have leftists SCREAMING about "MuH MiliTariZeD PoliCe"

I've got nothing against the AR platform, since my main defensive rifle is an AR...it's just one chambered for 7.62x51mm/.308 instead of 5.56x45mm/.223 Rem. Just my personal preference

FFFFUUUDDDDDD

we got a FUUUDDD HERE

The 1911 is obsolescent.
It's still capable and you can use it but much better options are available.

Kinda but it's a really pleasant gun to hold and shoot, especially in 9mm or .22 tcm.

The 1911 proved itself capable in the the middle of GWOT. With modern 8+1 or 10+1 magazines it’s competitive with most .45’s on the market.

I’ll die on my hill that so long as .45 is relevant the 1911 will reign supreme in the market.

Oh I want a 1911... In 9mm

You can "conceal" a full frame handgun by standing like a robot and not moving at all, but I've found often that all falls apart when you start moving at all. In winter you might get away with it with how thick all the clothing is, but every other season is no go.

A Shield is the absolute largest I would use for carrying, and the LCP is probably the smallest I feel comfortable shooting.

The Suited Shootist on YouTube is a small channel but I find he has good advice for people that want to conceal their firearms, not "conceal" them.

Just to clarify, my definition of concealement is being able to do daily activities in different positions without giving yourself away to someone observing you.

I don't feel the need to carry a full-size because any situation where I'd need the extra accuracy is one I can likely run away from. Not looking to get raped by the court system and the inevitable civil lawsuit.

The suited shootist is an excellent channel.

I CC'd my 365 to the movies right after I got it and..... No one noticed or said a thing. Only issue was at the urinal when the gun happily dragged my pants off. 😁

I find the G19 grip length is the maximum length I can comfortably conceal. That's only in appendix position, I would print like a mfer if I had to carry 3 or 4 o'clock. Appendix is also just more comfortably doing day to day activities. I can't drive comfortably carrying at 3 o'clock, I can both drive and sit comfortably carrying appendix. Also the seat belt doesn't get in the way with appendix, and I can generally draw the gun faster and from more positions with appendix.
Yep, I carry 3-5 o'clock and sitting to drive is..... Different.

I don't like Appendix carry.

Its kind of cool you can customize it but a 1400-1800 dollar 1911 in 9mm? For that price you can get a usp tactical and roleplay as a cod character and no one would call you a fuddtard for spending that much on a 1911
It's a 2011, not a 1911. At the time the Platypus came out, that was a pretty reasonable price for that platform, especially with a gimmick like that. The big expense for them at the time was that magazines were ungodly expensive. The Prodigy and the proliferation of Staccatos has brought the price of STI pattern mags down to nearly reasonable levels.

Watch out guys the fun police are here
The 1911 isnt a bad gun at all despite being outdated, what makes you say that sir glocknade, ambasador of the glock perfection nation and sales rep?
:smug:
What's your opinion on the platypus?
