i do not understand why anyone would want two magazines’ worth of ammo weighing down his rifle but only have half of it actually ready to fire. Surely a sixty round mag would be better?
I agree, it throws off the natural weight of the M4. I've always felt you could tell someone who had hump a rifle around all day at one point in their lives from someone who was a mall ninja by the level of useless gizmo's they have on their service weapon. I am a redneck engineer not a real engineer but there is something about 30 rounds being the "secret sauce" to mid calibers like 5.56. You go any higher you get reliability issues. Not to mention all the 6pack carriers are made for 30's the 60's/70's/Drums are still cumbersome IMHO unless you are in some kind of over-watch position where there will never logically be a reason to fire and move, my opinion is to just keep it simple. I am firm believer in statistics/prior anecdotal incident being the best example of a realistic possible future incident. The average civilian firefight engagement is the distance of a car, under 10 rounds and under 5 seconds. Don't compromise maneuverability for excessive firepower that is simply statistically impossible.
not exactly. if it's temporary, there is a form for that. for example hunting with a suppressor in a different state than where it's form 1 or 4 was approved. if it's a permanent move it's a separate form (Form 5320.20:
https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/f...r-temporarily-export-certain-nfa-firearms-atf). you do not need to pay the tax again, however you will have to follow any laws in the new state of residence for importing and possessing the NFA item.
its very common for law enforcement in many agencies to allow officers to use their personal weapons for their duties if they meet various guidelines. the exception is usually federal or highly regimented departments (LAPD, NYPD, et c).
I recall reading about that so very long ago. Many states and counties known for hating the US constitution told anyone who wore a badge for living they get take home what the local jurisdiction considered a felony to simply possess. Now I'm sure it's happened, somehow some way some dirtbag found out where the officer who arrested him lived and went full bore psychopath, came to their home but, I can never recall any incident of that happening.
Brailsford, the former officer who killed Daniel Shafer in the hotel in Mesa Arizona hotel, charged with 2nd degree murder? Manslaughter? something? did so with his personal rifle that was Dept approved. I would hope all depts around the country learned that having cringe shit on your firearms is also very cringe to the judge/ jury when you are charged with some kind of homicide/manslaughter charge. That was the worst shooting I've ever seen or even heard of in my life, I thought the ranking LT was just a massive fuckup with emotional/anger issues till I read more about the Mesa PD's other policies that continued post trial. Last I heard Brailsford is collecting a pension and he isn't even 40. He was with the dept cause dad was an officer so I'm sure they just streamlined the hiring process.
The infamous dust cover Brailsford personally installed on his AR then had approved by the dept "armorer" for field use representing Mesa PD.
Running suppressors on handguns is disappointing. They make your gun twice as big.
I have two suppressors I could run on handguns, but never bother.
Blasphemy! I personally love them, there's something about shooting a firearm and hearing this "Spuck-spuck-spuck" noise that's so satisfying, especially on steel. When ever I go to the range and a friend of a friend is there who is a bit nervous about about shooting anything for the first time like a woman who's never held a pistol, I load one round into a Ruger .22 with a can and tell them "when you pull the trigger you will get the the same feeling and sound you are using a stapler" and that will usually coax even the most nervous woman a try. I fully believe they have home defense value. Even a .22 I find deafening inside an enclosed room. Something goes "bump in the night" you want to hear what comes after the bump. Racoon? Opossum? Guy trying to break into your garage? In the dark noise might be all you have and if I indeed have to fire a shot I was to hear if there is movement or wailing of a mortally wounded animal/person. Maybe you have tougher ears than mine but you shoot 9mm in a regular old house with drywall acoustics you might not hear a critical noise, determining friend/foe. coming from behind you. Good Lord, that must look awful if the shooting comes into question in a court of law. You end up in a "Kyle Rittenhouse" situation and the prosecuting DA holds up a suppressed handgun that ended the life of a 8 time sex offender felon who broke into you're home @1am, you did the world a fucking favor and some liberal fuck District attorney holds up a suppressed handgun in front of a jury. Makes one wonder if removing said suppressor would be considered evidence tampering before calling it in.
