Right now, the burning question I have is this:

When Nick's parents came over to clean the house what did Nick tell them was the reason for the arrest and for CPS?

Nick and Kayla were friends with this other local couple. But they eventually discovered that he was a total drug fiend and wife beater. Nick begged him to stop doing drugs and be good to his wife. But he went crazy and Nick & Kayla had to take in his poor wife. They gave her shelter from his abuse and drug lifestyle.

But then he took revenge. He gossiped and spread LIES about Nick & Kayla that first went to Kayla's evil sister and then got spread around their church by those scandinavian incel prudes. The gossips went to the church pastor who then repeated their stories to the police.

When Aaron left the house, he left a bag of what they thought was talcum powder behind. Kayla put it in the safe in the bedroom for safe keeping because they didn't Aaron to come up all crazy on drugs demanding entry to the house to get it back. April saw how the talcum power was clumping up and used her credit cards to keep it in good condition because she still loved aaron.

But then the police came and it turned out that Aaron's talcum powder was cocaine. Nick was shocked because he had never before even seen drugs in his life. The kids have lots of activities outside of the house that Nick drives them to. Bad people live in other houses. The kids inevitably would get exposed to drugs at those houses. The family often discussed this and knew that due to drug exposure outside the home, any one of the kids might test positive for drugs.

The house was not in tip-top shape because Nick and Kayla had been sick several times over the winter. But the house was fine and the kids were always fine.

So in summary, they are not Nick's drugs. Nick has never used drugs and does not know what drugs look like. Aaron is a self-admitted coke fiend and they are undoubtably his drugs.

His father would believe every word.
