He won't "walk" unless something seriously wrong happens procedurally, like evidence going missing or similar. This is relatively rare in big cases, as everyone working on it knows their career is over if they fuck up.
Normally he'd be given some kind of light sentence because his lawyer will tell the judge what a good boy he is etc. Judges feel comfortable giving these make believe punishments when there's no scrutiny. This case is large and significant, however, so the judge will give him a longer sentence because it's deemed in the "public interest", ie, the judge knows he could cause disorder if he gives the normal light touch.

But yeah, ridiculous they can't charge him in 3 days just like the rioters and pass a capital sentence just as quickly. Either way, we're all just waiting to see what happens if he turns out to be a muslamic convert.
