Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

So update on the tidal wave thing. Ended up not getting the figure because I got sick as hell like right before amazon actually stocked him and then I had a few dollars under the price in the account due to not getting paid in time and it dropping earlier than the date it said it was coming. It did that thing where it said "revise payment info" but then mysteriously just fucking vanished from my orders. Like it's just not even there in the order history anymore. Found out the amazon copies also have the exploding knee joints and said"fuck it" and decided not to get it for now. Big relief not having a 200 dollar preorder looming over my fucking spending account anymore and having to micromanage funds, that's for sure. Around the time I got "better" enough to check internet stuff again I found out a small one time only figure production run type company's site restocked on a figure I wanted (it was leftover stock from convention booth sales) so I ordered some of those. Also ended up finding out a guy that recast action figure parts as a hobby I got stuff from off ebay years back (heads and helmets type shit ) from not only did not stop but now has a designated website around the same time where he basically sells commissions of recasts through.

Tl ; dR Basically the money that would have gone to tidal wave due to being like a dollar or two off when a surprise charge and then surprise order deletion that doesn't even show up in the cancelled orders happened has now gone to smaller, more niche things and fodder for personal projects which are also smaller technically.

EDIT CAUSE I FORGOT: Also if things get better/go good cashflow wise soon I may actually use the tidal wave money for a roboskull II. the thing is the same general size and price range (if not slightly higher) and I similarly lacked the funds for the kickstarter/preorder on it when I found out about it a few years back. No guarantees. It's a lot more insane due to being a fanmade homage to the one big exclusive thing people know from a weird yet cool almost bootleg tier UK localization of gi joe. I mean save for the 5PoA figures and one amphibious vehicle mold but those aren't a SPACE FIGHTER WITH A GIANT SKULL AS THE MAIN BODY. Also unlike tidal wave they ADDED an ungodly amount of features that make sense instead of removing every unique feature.

Been forming a small collection of either fanmade remakes or homages to the red shadows guys since I've always liked the designs ever since finding out about the wild UK gi joe localization shit back in the day, and almost ALL of these remake/homage figures or parts for customs have been from US based groups so it's infinitely more affordable Fuck your 50 dollar exchange rate for 30 dollar shit plus 25 dollar shipping UK.Only time I've seen shipping sanely priced from a UK seller it was some small 3d printed custom figure parts stuff I ended up ordering for one of my many projects. Considering Hasbro seemingly let the rights for everything fall into a weird legal gray area it's intriguing to me that they've been putting out their own nods/homages to stuff tied to that again in some of their recent transformers marvel comics figure box sets and super7's gi joe stuff just straight up naming characters and using the designs for their releases. I'd get the super7 shit more if it wasn't 20 fucking dollars for kenner star wars style figures that are produced in large enough quantities I still see ones that came out 7 years ago on chain store shelves. Not paying full price for those ever. Maybe I'll get them if they go on markdown to 6 or 7 dollars again when they actually have the ones I liked the look of in stock.

EDITX2:
This thing is like my schizo mecha dreams made manifest. Perfection. Raw aesthetic perfection.

Still pissed on missing out on the kickstarter only one that came with more paint detailing on the right. Hoping they produce more of the figure that comes with it at least because only being able to get the 6 inch version whenever that comes out is not an ideal situation for me.

I've got Tidal Wave. He's alright. Full disclosure, I do actually really like his robot and combined vehicle mode. But I don't like how you lose parts for the miniature Dark Fleet. I also don't like how parts-formery it is, considering the original figure was completely capable of transforming from its combined vehicle mode to robot without removing anything. I realize it's probably for stability and safety since it would have to have a much chunkier connection between the waist and torso than the big clip the original had, but it's still annoying. Great display piece though.

Got one of these cuz I'm a sucker for mochi/tsum-tsum type stuffed animals. I've been using him as am extra pillow. Very soft, but could use some more stuffing. APC Optimus is a hit for me. Never thought I'd have a figure with some actual metal on it.

Still kinda pissed how they outright fucking lied in their explanation for why he's a partsformer saying it's much more articulated than the original. The only thing he has over the OG from what i've seen are knees, a neck, and ankles. Something you could easily have left his transformation the same for. A chunkier connection with spring based button locks would be infinitely better than exploding knees and complete partsformification/feature removal. The figure's clearly aiming for anime accuracy compared to the original with how the head's based on an off model shot of his head from the anime, but it kind of fucks that up with the addition of the weird fold in part of the front of the ship when it becomes his arm in robot mode. that doesn't happen in the anime, he ALWAYS has the thing visible from what I've seen. They didn't even bother adding like a flap to cover the hole so when you have it up it looks all fucked up and weird but when you have it folded in it also looks weird.

Still want him but god damn they could have so EASILY actually put stuff in and kept the articulation. He's pricier than any titan before save haslab unicron and they couldn't even implement ONE feature iconic to the character design aside from the off model head thing?

i'll keep saying it, if they had to sacrifice the combination for the ramjet minicon(with the elevator gimmick) this would have been far better.

Got Megs and Officer Pax. Megatron is weird, the retool parts feel fine, the older parts aren’t loose and unlike the Miner, he can stand but there’s a definite age difference. He looks good though, paint apps are sharp, especially the face paint. Might bite on an upgrade kit to bulk him up to his “tyrant” look after he got armed by glowies.

Pax is the fucking star though, holy fuck he feels good, that’s a retool done right. Easily one of the best voyager-scaled Optimus Prime figures. Will undoubtedly be retooled into Stormbringer Optimus.

Damn, a tight-joint alternator in this day and age? That's a good acquisition right there to be sure.
never really seen any with loose joints save for some, the Battle ravage I got used way back in the day that's been getting kinda dusty on a shelf the last near decade or so now still has tight ass joints, it's the modern figures that weirdly get loose fast for me.

I found my old Universe Hound, and it's pretty interesting, especially compared to modern figures, because they've clearly prioritized the alt mode to the robot mode. The robot mode has 10 points of articulation and won't stand up, but the Jeep mode is AMAZING, complete with a moulded steering wheel/dashboard, moulded seats, wheels that roll exceedingly smoothly, and suspension. My Legends-class Cybertron Megatron is the same way -- excellent vehicle mode, but low articulation and stability issues in robot mode. As someone who cares more about alt modes than robot modes, I'd be okay if they retvrned to this since these ultra-realistic vehicles are way cooler as robots in disguise. On top of that, the vehicle mode (of Hound) has some cartoonier proportions, which makes it feel like a toy!

The cybertron legends class figures were kind of famous/infamous for just being downscaled versions of the bigger figures with less articulation a lot of the time. Always found it impressive how they managed to do that even to this day. Some figures suffered severely articulation wise from that downscaling, but I still Really found it cool how the legends, voyager, and supreme starscreams for cybertron all just had the same level of articulation (save for the arms in the legends one being unable to bend at the elbow).

Honestly I'm surprised they don't upscale/downscale stuff as frequently as they probably could. Outside the cybertron legends figures all I can really immediately think of is how Universe galvatron's flimsy solely because he's a voyager figure they turned into/downscaled to a deluxe last minute before production, and the POTP nemesis prime's head being an upscaled and basically unaltered version of the convention exclusive Combiner Wars Toxitron figure's head.

Back from vacation and I found something.

The comic con Megatron’s foot peg is broken, I missed that out of the box. Did some surgery and cannabalized a Netflix Megatron’s legs, switching in as many parts of the comic con Megatron’s legs as I could.

Screws had to be tightened too, even the factory guys knew Orion was the value in that box.

XTransbots are working on a Misfire. I can't wait to see all of the design flaws and QC issues it'll have.

Got ROTB yoloparks of Bee and Op, along with a large mochi/tsum-tsum pillow of G1 Prime. Dude sits by my Eeyore. Iykyk
Saw a pile of TF one merch in my Walmart today too, and I gotta be honest, shit looks ugly. The quality could be great but even then, I won't buy things I deem visually unappealing. Though I might nab a TFO yolopark Elita just to have more girl bots in my collection. It's my favorite shade of pink fuck off

Only things I've liked so far is the Sentinel Prime (can't wait to see how bad the Studio Series one looks) and the Quintesson as it looks like a Star Gate Atlantis Dart in it's altmode.

Soundwave looks particularly ugly. The alt mode could have been good if the back wings were shorter and those weird black things were removed, but for some reason Hasbro is allergic to good Cybertronian alt modes, especially for Soundwave.

At least he looks likes something, you still have to squint though. He's not a shape like in Bumblebee.
