Depends on length added, time spent strengthening the new bone, diet during recovery, and the prodecure used. Typically very well when done for legitimate reasons.

They were much more DIY--not in the sense of finding steroids, but in that they dealt with fashion styling, sources for tiny/giant clothes in your target sex, posture and working on your unconscious behavior, vocal exercises. Someone elsewhere on this site was mentioning that keeping your pedostache/peach fuzz is a dead giveaway for pooners; a man would shave that off and have a little stubble, not tapering "every bit counts" facial hair. I saw that tip on ancient trans websites. There were some product recommendations, but there were dozens of different "how to make a packer" instructions, with the assumption that a 1990s FtM would build her own and move on. Not crochet, either: there was a lot of stuffing condoms with hair gel as a base layer. MtFs had instructions on basic alterations, and how to repurpose existing shapeware.

I won't say those were "true trans," but their motivations were definitely different than a lot of them today. Today's "self-made men and women" are blatantly seeking others' validation--and what's more validating than being able to spend lots of money to buy something off the shelf?

Not doing well at articulating this, but the modern trans experience is a hugely commercial one. There's no trans equivalent to the old feminist books and zines, or the crip zines, about how to understand your own body and take care of its nonstandard needs. Yeah, being one of the earliest people on long term testosterone, there was no info so it was a surpise when the whole atrophy>sepsis happened -
The thing is, this is now well known, and the docs providing it are STILL not informing people it happens.
Time and again you see posts on r/FTM querying about these mysteriois cramps and pains after sex, and it remains for other pooners to tell them that's atrophy, you need some topical estrogen cream.
The thing is how fast it apparently starts to happen too.
Buck's situation seemed to take a longish time, at least until it was life threatening and in a really terrible state, but it can happen early as a couple months in.
Basically all of the hormone effects massively vary from person to person it seems, everyone's different specific chemical cocktail that makes up their body. Vastly more pooners get trouble, because of the toxicity of T, and perhaps women's makeup is a bit mroe varied, the way it's basically divided into 3rds with menopause where some people are okay ish, some people have a terrible reaction which drags on years, and some people are absolutely fine and dandy with it.
