Phil has had plenty of chances to have friends and role models. Anyone in FGC? John and Howard? People met through online connections? I will also say that the red bars don't always stay at the end of a fully watched video if people haven't noticed. I've caught this a couple times for videos I've fully watched being re-recommended for some reason with only a partial bar.

Not sure about that. From what we've seen, Dave is a more or less well-adjusted boomer dad who tried. We know that he didn't kick Phil's ass or anything like that. He probably had a hard time understanding his retarded son's fascination with videogames and his "tough love" didn't work as intended, but as far as parents go, Phil was far from getting a shitty dad who abused him. Linda on the other hand seemed to coddle him too much, turning him into the spoiled, entitled manchild he is today. He had a family that provided, fed and loved him, even if not on the right amounts.
That's ignoring all the tard rage he would do where he'd call the Cannon brothers con artists and liars, brag about how he'd make his own FGC, make his own forum as payback for getting banned for literally posting BBC pornography and creating sock accounts to slink back in. Phil was either always a toxic narc piece of shit or decided to autistically LARP a tough guy who takes shit from no one and can't even do that right, because at the end of the day he has always come off as a narc manchild with a severe case of arrested development. Honestly I'm amazed Jon and Howard stayed around as long as they did, because the only other alleged friends from this period of his life are brutally murdered in a revenge scheme (RIP T) or literally don't remember him other than as the guy who ran his mouth and talked big shit and never backed it up.
I feel that way sometimes, and when the Kino Casino streams started happening, I even thought to myself I wouldn't mind if this was really the beginning of his redemption arc. Well, we are getting his idea of a redemption arc: Phil never did anything wrong, he did everything correct, and it's everyone else who needs redemption. This can only be achieved by reaching new and unheard-of levels of toxicity and walking back absolutely everything he has been preaching every day for years.
