This. Even if Nick is able to sell both his current properties for $450K+, the average 4-bedroom house in the greater Los Angeles area averages between $1-$1.5 million. If he's keeping just the four youngest kids he'd have to buy like halfway to Bakersfield, which ruins the convenient access to Dick that he craves. And his overall cost of living will skyrocket. He should be able to afford it.

Even if he had income of $500k (plug number to get him over the income that would get you out of the subsidized range) , he could buy insurance on the marketplace for about/in the range of $1400-2250/month. For $2250, that's 0 copay 0 for generic drugs $3400 deductible, $17400 max OOP.

If he made 100k he'd be eligible for some credits back around $548
